The bottomless pit

What is the bottomless bit or abyss?
I know that the book of Revelations is a book of signs and symbols and I do not (any longer) accept that it is a literal book.  I do not any longer, accept it is a book in harmony with Daniel 9.
I am now starting to understand that the bottomless pit or abyss in within me and each individual, for man is the beast, whether he wants to accept it or not.

I had an experience of the abyss once.  It was back in my callow youth lol when I had given up God for a time.

I saw the abyss and it was terrifying.  This blackness that just went on forever, and there was nothing to stop you from falling into it forever.   The sensation of falling was of going lower and lower and lower with no bottom ever being reached and no hope. Falling through the blackness of the whole universe.  It was horrible.  And lonely.  Existential loneliness.   Nothing else was there.  I shudder now even thinking about it.

In more recent times, I see it as the place where evil resides.  There is no foundation for evil.  Just when you think it can go no lower, it goes lower.  And, the lower it goes, the lower it seeks to go.

I still can't say I understand it.  I can't understand why people seek to do such evil things.  I kind of hope I never do understand it.  But, I do know that Satan rules over the abyss.  Good luck to him with that lol.

I thought the abyss was a cage for demons, not a home. Such as when Jesus asks the demons and they say don't send us to the deep. If it was home, why beg Jesus their enemy to not go home, but instead to go into swine.

God is truly amazing. And to think that we've barely scratched the surface of the Scriptures.
The irony of it all is, when revealed, that the message is actually simple and easy to understand.

Yes, yet I, myself find myself so small in all the small things, and happy to find myself so small still, in the large and grander things I know nothing about...... yet. I am smiling cause I know we will. I guess I have expressed the bottomless pit, I pray that we can see an understand the hopelessness of my humor and the danger of the embrace or this empty maw of emptiness.

You do bring up a good point.  I would personally like to see it addressed by the crowd who doesn't believe in satan or demons as anything more than our own evil desires.  Why did the demons call themselves by Legion?  Why be cast into the deep?  If the abyss is just the evil within us then why wouldn't the demons want to go back where they were?

And I think terseness has it's place.  But, not to avoid a relevant point.  And you make a very good one.
