Ages of the ages?

What exactly is meant by the phrase "ages of the ages", which from what I understand is derived from the Greek "aionas ton aionon"? For example, this phrase is used in Revalation 20:10, in which it is typically translated "forever and ever". I understand that it doesn't actually mean eternity, but what is meant by "ages of the ages"...it just sounds kind of strange in our modern day English. Does it just mean an unknown period of time? Also, does the fact that it is plural signify a longer period of time?

This is just me, but I find the phrase "age of the ages" "unto the age" "this age" all very illuminating in my understanding as I am lead through the Word of God. The phrase "forever and ever" just sounds so "once upon a time," again I emphisize, this only my  :2c:
God is bringing ALL THINGS to His conclusion, that He may be ALL IN ALL, so time, must have an ending, and since I understand this to be so, I can understand the end of the ages.
1Ti 1:17  and to the King of the ages, the incorruptible, invisible, only wise God, is honour and glory--to the ages of the ages! Amen.

To my current understanding "ages of the ages" are the two final eons before eternity begins. That is, the 7th eon, the Lake of Fire judgement eon, and the 8th eon when God will make all new. (We are currently in the 5th eon which the Bible calls "the present evil age".) After everything is complete time ends, eternity begins and God shall be All in All.

Maybe we can find it's understanding in other similar terms like Holy of Holies and King of Kings.
Where we find such things as:
Of everything that is holy, He is the holiest.
Of the King of every kings.

Maybe this means that this is THE AGE among all ages?

Yeah that's exactly how I understand it.

It's been argued by ET'ers "ages of the ages" should be read as "ages tumbling upon ages", iow. an 'amicable' way of saying 'forever and ever'. However this I have a problem with. If ET is real why not be 100% frank about it? Why be 'amicable' ? Why not state it so plain and clear there is absolutely no room for rebuttals?

Jesus has the keys of death and hell, so if these places exist God can open their door, the gates of hell can be opened.

So maybe it should be possible to repent even in hades and that God will rescue them in that dungeon.
As the psalms, his say, his mercy endureth forever, his mercy endureth forever.

The only scripture which says it's impossible to pass a chasm, is the lazarus and rich man parable, but after some revelation this parable I believe is not talking about the state of the dead.

Also if there are demons in hell who torture people, then what if one were to call upon the name of Jesus and bind those demons and rebuke them? Didn't Job say I make my bed in hell but thou art there, so in light of the word and scripture Jesus promises that in his name unclean spirits are under our command.
There is no other name that man might be saved upon the earth and under the earth

That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;

so perhaps those people who are in Rev 20 who are pulled out of hell are the remaining people who refuse to come to the light lest their sins be exposed, so since God is destroying the earth, then there is no more room for them as the first heaven and earth pass away, so these folks must be cast into the lake of fire.

The question of what is this lake of fire is debatable, it must be some kind of fire baptism that purges the spirit or it is annhilation of the spirit.

If psalms, mercy endureth forever had a fight with, burn in the lake forever, who would win?  :Pray:
