THE AIONION GOD = THE ETERNAL GOD, THE EONIAN GOD ( God of the Ages )

In Six Days ( Ages ) the Eternal God created Everything and Rested on the 7th Day ( Age ).
There is no mention of another Day ( Age ) to Proceed the Final Day ( Age ) so that Age must have no End.
This Seventh Day ( Age ) is Endless in Duration.

Can we not then see that the Eternal God is the God of the Ages. He was the God of the 1st Age through the 6th Age
and will also be the God of the 7th Age which is the Perfect Age ( Holy Sabbath of Rest ) that will abide Forever  ( Without End ),
thus God being the God of the Ages will himself Exist Forever even when described as such.

AIONION PUNISHMENT = PUNISHMENT FOREVER

Now don't be alarmed but hear me out on this. Who of us has not spoken of things taking FOREVER
but in reality might have taking as little as 2 minutes or 2 seconds etc. Example: This Bus is taking FOREVER
but it eventually arrived 10 minutes later so it did not literally take FOREVER.

Therefore this is how AIONION can mean FOREVER in the non literal application like in the example I gave above.

AIONION LIFE = LIFE FOREVER

Pretty much everyone agrees that the saints will LIVE FOREVER.
There is no need to translate the term AIONION as AGE-LASTING in this instance because the saints shall LIVE FOREVER ( Without End ).

Therefore, the INFAMOUS VERSE ( Matthew 25:46 ) that Eternal Tormenter's and Annihilationist use to disprove UNIVERSAL SALVATION
is Actually in FAVOR OF THE GOSPEL OF UNIVERSAL SALVATION ( Jesus Christ ) and cannot be DISPUTED.

And these shall go away into PUNISHMENT FOREVER [ In a Non-Literal Manner ], but the Righteous into LIFE FOREVER [ In a Literal Manner ].

Use this in your understanding and arm yourselves when false brethren try to disprove the Gospel ( Universal Salvation in and through Christ )
we Love and have accepted as true. In every instance the term AIONION is used in scripture translate it to mean Forever in most places,
Eternal in few places and Eonian in some places and Everlasting in many places and all scripture will Harmonize with the Gospel of Universal Salvation ( Jesus Christ )

Peace from God and the Grace of the Lord Jesus be with you all.

Can you explain how you determine that one is meant in a non-literal manner, the other in a literal manner?

Sure. I'd be Happy to show you and everyone that is reading this topic. I will list the references where the term AIONION in its Various Forms is used in scripture and explain the meaning and the reason it must be read in this manner.

Before AIONION Times – 2 Tim.1:9;Titus 1:2

This cannot mean Eternal in this case because there is nothing before Eternity. Eternity is without beginning or end so nothing could be promised before that which is Eternal. This must mean Eonian because the Ages had a beginning so there was a point when the ages did not exist but God did exist and promised us Life Forever in the Literal Sense.

Life AIONION – Matt.19:29; Lk.18:30; Jn.3:15,16,36; 4:14; 5:24; 6:27,40,47; 12:50; Acts 13:46; Rom.6:22; Gal.6:8; 1 Tim.1:16 Matt.19:16; 25:46; Mk.10:17, 30; Lk.10:25; 18:18; Jn.4:36; 5:39; 6:54,68; 10:28; 12:25; 17:2,3; Acts 13:48; Rom.2:7; 5:21; 6:23; 1 Tim.6:12; Titus 1:2; 3:7; 1 Jn.1:2; 2:25; 3:15; 5:11,13,20; Jude 2

This means Life Forever in the Literal since in every instance it is used in scripture. It cannot mean Life Forever in a non literal since because the saints shall put on immortality and so shall never die. It also cannot mean Life Eternal because men are not Eternal ( without beginning or end ).

AIONION Redemption – Hebrews 9:12

This means Everlasting Redemption because we are Redeemed Forever in a Literal sense and not temporarily so. It cannot mean Eternal Redemption because that would be a redemption that had no beginning and no end. There was a point in which we were not Redeemed because we didn't exist. Redemption is Everlasting ( Without End ).

AIONION Salvation – Hebrews 5:9

This means Everlasting Salvation because we are Saved Forever in a literal sense and not temporarilty so. It cannot mean Eternal Salvation because we were not saved before we were born ( Existed ) as you cannot heal a disease that doesn't exist yet.

AIONION Glory – 2 Cor.4:17; 2 Tim.2:10; 1 Pet.5:10
This means Eternal Glory because God has Always had Glory. God did not at some point have no Glory. It also doesn't mean Eonian Glory because God had Glory before the Ages even though He has Glory during the Ages.

AIONION Kingdom – 2 Peter 1:11

This means Everlasting Kingdom because the Kingdom of Christ is without End. The Kingdom of Christ had a point of Beginning so it's not Eternal but it shall Exist Forever in the Literal Sense.

AIONION Inheritance – Hebrews 9:15

This means Everlasting Inheritance because our Inheritance in Christ shall Last Forever in the Literal Sense. It doesn't mean an Eternal Inheritance because we cannot receive an Inheritance that had No Beginning since we didn't Exist without a Beginning in order to receive one.

AIONION "Things Not Seen" – 2 Corinthians 4:18

This means Eternal because it is in contrast to things that are Temporary [ Non Eternal and Seen]. It cannot mean Eonian because the Things Unseen Existed Eternally such as God while the Things that are Seen Exist Temporarily such as All Things that have a Beginning and an End.

AIONION House – 2 Corinthians 5:1

This means Everlasting because our House not made with Hands shall Last Forever. This cannot mean Eternal for obvious reasons because we had no House before we Existed.

AIONION Dwellings/Home – Luke 16:9

This means Everlasting and Eonian Dwellings/Home because although wealth is used in dishonest ways we should make Friends with them of the Mammon of Unrighteousness so that when it fails us they will Receive us into their Eonian Dwellings/Homes and when Life is Over we will be Welcomed into an Everlasting Home/Dwelling ( The Kingdom of God ).

AIONION Consolation – 2 Thessalonians 2:16

This means Everlasting Consolation because the Consolation of God shall last Forever in the Literal Sense. It cannot mean Eternal Consolation because we could not have been Consoled ( Comforted ) before we Existed.

AIONION Covenant – Hebrews 13:20

This means Everlasting because the Covenant made in Jesus Blood shall Last Forever. It cannot mean an Eonain Covenant because this Covenant replaces the Old Covenant and thus could not have Endured for All Ages when the Old Covenant was still in place.

AIONION Gospel – Revelation 14:6

This can mean Everlasting and Eonain because the Gospel ( Good News ) shall last Forever in the Literal Since and shall Endure for All Ages.

AIONION God – Romans 16:26

This Can Mean Eternal, Everlasting and Eonain because God encompasses all three of these descriptions. God is Eternal ( Without Beginning or End ), God is Everlasting ( Without End ) and God is Eonian ( Enduring for the Ages ).

AIONION Spirit – Hebrews 9:14

This means Eternal because the Spirit of God is Eternal ( Without beginning or End ).

AIONION Power – 1 Timothy 6:16

This can mean Eternal, Everlasting and Eonain Power because God always had Power from all Eternity. God's Power is Everlasting ( Without End ) and God Power is Eonian ( Endures for the Ages ).

AIONION Judgment – Hebrews 6:2

This Means Eonian Judgment because God cast no Judgment that is Eternal ( Without Beginning or End ). It cannot mean Everlasting because All God's Judgment come to an End. It means Eonian because God's Judgments only last for the Age ( Period ) in which they are Administered.

AIONION Condemnation – Mark 3:29

This means Eonian Condemnation because All Condemnation is to come to an End since All Men will receive the Gift of Life. It cannot mean Eternal Condemnation because it contradicts the Fact the as all men were condemned through the trespass of Adam so shall all men receive justification of Life through the one Act of Righteousness ( Jesus ). Romans 5:18

AIONION Fire – Matthew 18:8; 25:41 (everlasting); Jude 7

This Means Eternal, Everlasting and Eonian because God is the Fire being Described. God is Eternal Fire ( Fire without Beginning or End ), Everlasting Fire ( Fire without End ) and Eonian Fire ( Fire that Endures for the Ages ).

Chastening/Punishment AIONION – Matthew 25:46

This means Chastening/Punishment Forever in the Non Literal Sense because all Punishment ( Chastening ) shall come to an End because No One Punishes ( Chastizes ) someone Forever in the Literal Sense. The word used for Punishment is the Greek Word "Kolasis". Kolasis has in view not some Kind of Terrible Vindictive Punishment, but Acts done for the Sake of Betterment or Correction ( Corrective Punishment ). In the Scriptures, in Acts 4:21, the Jews released John and Peter, finding Nothing about them with which they should be chastenied ( Punished )
Did they not Aim to Reform them? Was not their Chastening ( Punishment ) with a view toward their Returning to the unbelieving Jewish fold? From their Standpoint the Word was certainly used to convey the idea of Reformation. To show that it had this meaning in Greek usage, we cite Plato: "For if, O Socrates, you will consider what is the Design of Punishing ( The Word Kolazein derived from The term Kolasis) the Wicked, this of itself will show you that Men think Virtue something that may be Acquired; for No One Punishes ( The Word Kolazei Derived from Word Kolasis ) the Wicked looking to the Past only, simply for the Wrong he has Commited - that is, No One does this Thing who does Not Act like a Wild Beast [ Mere Human ], Desiring only Revenge, without Thought - hence he who Seeks to Punish ( The Word kolazein derived from the Word Kolasis ) with Reason, does Not Punish for the Sake of the Past Wrong Deed, but for the Sake of the Future, that Neither the Man Himself who is Punished, may Do Wrong Again, nor any Other who has Seen Him Chastised ( Punished ). And he who Entertains this Thought, must Believe that Virtue may be Taught, and he Punishes ( The Word kolazei Derived from the Word Kolasis ) for the Purpose of Deterring from Wickedness.

AIONION Destruction – 2 Thessalonians 1:9
This Means Eonian Destruction because Christ came to Save those that are Lost, Perished & Destroyed ( which is the term Apollumi in the Greek) and to Seek them until they are Found, Saved & Restored. Therefore they cannot remain Lost, Perished & Destroyed (Apollumi in the Greek) because Christ came to save such and will not give up until they are Found, Saved & Restored. Christ Seeks the Lost, Perished & Destroyed ( Apollumi in the Greek) Sheep until he Find, Saves, & Restores them. The Lost, Persished & Destroyed Coin ( Symbolic of A Son/Daughter of God ) was searched for until it ( He/She ) was Found, Saved & Restored.

AIONION – Philemon 1:15
This means Eonian because Philemon was to Receive his Servant Onesimus not as an Eternal Servant ( Slave ) or as an Everlasting Servant ( Slave ) but as an Eonian Servant ( Slave ) and dear Brother in the Lord.

May the Grace of the Lord Jesus open the Heart of your Understaning that you all beloved in the Lord may recieve Spiritual Eyes that See and Spiritual Ears that Hear according to His Kind Instruction.

For me God created the aions = time. I also think the eons will end. Does that mean "God of the eons" is no longer our God after the eons?
For we it simply means He 'owns' the eons. Not that he is bound by them. Just like I own a car. When it breaks down I still live.

What about "The eighth day"? Isn't that the 'day' after the eons?
1 Timothy 2:3-4  ...God our Savior;  Who will have all men to be saved...
John 12:47  And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.
Romans 4:5 But to the one who does not work, but believes in the one who declares the ungodly righteous ...

micah7:9

God IS, that for me takes in was and will be.
An eighth day for me is still time, perhaps that helps some to understand and that is good.
1Co 15:28  and when the all things may be subjected to him, then the Son also himself shall be subject to Him, who did subject to him the all things, that God may be the all in all.
1Co 15:53  for it behoveth this corruptible to put on incorruption, and this mortal to put on immortality; (deathlessness)
Ecc. 12:7

Now in those verses I see as the end of "time." (Ages, Eons, Aions) It all comes down to ONE. Its ALL ONE. God is ONE. Peace is ONE. (John 10:30) O N E.

I want to thank you Moshood for your post Hummm Good!

The Number Eight ( The 8th Day ) always alludes to a Departure from the Natural World and Entry into the Supernatural ( Spiritual ) World. The Multiplication of Eight ( New Beginnings ) by Eight ( Newness of Life ) represents the Totality of the Spiritual world. The Spiritual World is a Combination of New Beginnings and Newness of Life and the Process shall repeat itself over and over again because Life is about New Beginnings. We are being Changed from Glory to Glory and thus are Reborn Every Moment of our Lives. A New Day is Born, a New Moment is Created, a New Experience is Felt etc etc. The 7th Day ( Age ) has No End because it is the Sabbath Day ( Rest ) of God. Those Entering that Rest shall Find Peace for their Souls and Rest from their Labors and this will Last Forever in the Spiritual Sense.

Doesn't  a new beginning (of the week) mean the previous 7 days/eons ended?
If life is new beginnings then why are we 'stuck' in the 7th day?

First off... Christ is not Jesus' last name! It's HIS title....  better known as God's "anointed one"

Now let's review Aion and Aionion

Pay attention...
We are aware that nothing is more unsafe and treacherous than the guidance of etymology. An ounce of usage is worth a pound of it. Etymology is theory, usage is fact.

The oldest lexicographer, Hesychius, (A. D. 400-600,) definesaión thus: "The life of man, the time of life." At this early date no theologian had yet imported into the word the meaning of endless duration. It retained only the sense it had in the classics, and in the Bible.

Theodoret (9) (A. D. 300-400) "Aión is not any existing thing, but an interval denoting time, sometimes infinite when spoken of God, sometimes proportioned to the duration of the creation, and sometimes to the life of man."

John of Damascus (A. D. 750,) says, "1, The life of every man is called aión.  . . .  3, The whole duration or life of this world is called aión. 4, The life after the resurrection is called 'the aión to come.' "

But in the sixteenth century Phavorinus was compelled to notice an addition, which subsequently to the time of the famous Council of 544 had been grafted on the word. He says: "Aión, time, also life, also habit, or way of life. Aión is also the eternal and endless AS IT SEEMS TO THE THEOLOGIAN."   Theologians had succeeded in using the word in the sense of endless, and Phavorinus was forced to recognize their usage of it and his phraseology shows conclusively enough that he attributed to theologians the authorship of that use of the word.

Alluding to this definition, Rev. Ezra S. Goodwin, one of the ripest scholars and profoundest critics, says,(10) "Here I strongly suspect is the true secret brought to light of the origin of the sense of eternity in aión. The theologian first thought he perceived it, or else he placed it there. The theologian keeps it there, now. And the theologian will probably retain it there longer than any one else. Hence it is that those lexicographers who assign eternity as one of the meanings of aión uniformly appeal for proofs to either theological, Hebrew, or Rabbinical Greek, or some species of Greek subsequent to the age of the Seventy, if not subsequent to the age of the Apostles, so far a I can ascertain."

Usage says it all!

From the article on TM referenced by Paul above;

CONCLUSION

Many sensible people will, with propriety, say, "Why all this labor to establish the meaning of one word?" And the author confesses that such a labor should be unnecessary. Men ought to refuse to credit such a doctrine as that of endless punishment on higher grounds than those of verbal definitions. Reverence, not to say respect, for God, the fact that he is the Father of mankind, should cause all to reject the doctrine of endless torment, though the weight of argument were a thousand fold to one in favor of the popular definition of this word. But there are many who disregard the moral argument against the doctrine, which is unanswerable; who crush under the noblest instincts of the heart and soul, which plead, trumpet-tongued, against that horrible nightmare of doubt and unbelief; who cling to the mere letter of the word which kills, and ignore the spirit which gives life; who insist that all the voices of reason and sentiment should be disregarded because the Bible declares the doctrine of endless punishment for sinners. It is for such that these facts have been gathered, and this essay written, that no shred nor vestige even of verbal probability should exist to mislead the mind, and so seem to sanction the doctrine that defames God and distresses man; that it might be seen that the letter and the spirit of the word agree, and are in perfect accord with the dictates of reason, the instincts of the heart, and the impulses of the soul, in rejecting the worst falsehood, the foulest of all brood of error, the darkest defamation of the dear God's character that ever yet was invented, the monstrous falsehood that represents him as consigning the souls he has created to his own image to interminable torment. The word under examination is the foundation stone of that evil structure.

Thus it has appeared as the result of this discussion that

  1. There is nothing in the Etymology of the word warranting the erroneous view of it.

  2. The definitions of Lexicographers uniformly given not only allow but compel the view we have advocated.

  3. Greek writers before and at the time the Septuagint was made, always gave the word the sense of limited duration.

  4. Such is the general usage in the Old Testament.

  5. The Jewish Greek writers at the time of Christ ascribed to it limited duration.

  6. The New Testament thus employs it.

  7. The Christian Fathers for centuries after Christ thus understood it.

Hence it follows that the readers of the Bible are under the most imperative obligations to understand the word in all cases as denoting limited duration, unless the subject treated, or other qualifying words compel them to understand it differently. There is nothing in the Derivation, Lexicography or Usage of the word to warrant us in understanding it to convey the thought of endless duration.

If our positions are well taken the Bible does not teach the doctrine of endless torment, for it will be admitted that if this word does not teach it, it cannot be found in the Bible.
The oldest known manuscripts agree with each other 99% of the time.  The scriptures, accurately translated, Spirit revealed - reliable.   Looking unto Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our faith.  Heb. 12:2

Indeed... Show me the doctrine of endless torment in the O.T.   What did Paul say...  2Ti 3:16  All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness;

So then what's the plan? What do you accept as truth as no teaching of endless torment exist in... All Scripture?   :dontknow:

That answer still doesn't sit right with me

Indeed currently the 7th day is the day of rest. But in a new perfect creation all days of the week are rest.
New creation = new week

Can't find the verse right now but: Baby Jesus was presented before the Lord on the 8th day.

For me the God-all-in-all is the 8th day.
The 8th day starts on the moment Jesus hands over His Kingdom. We are that kingdom. So with a little bending of words Jesus presents His Kingdom/us to Father.

Is the 7th day really a day of rest for all? For example what about those not in the 1st resurrection. Or cast in LoF.
Jesus was resurrected on the 8th day.

Nah, for me that 8th day sounds more gloriful than the old passed away 7th day, the day of the old world.

hmm, what you think the ages are, then?

Something like this?

1st. the Age of Angels
2nd. the Age of Men
3rd. the Old Covenant Age
4th. the Church Age
5th. The Millennial Age
6th. & 7th. Ages of the Ages
8th. Eternity Begins, God All in All

21 When eight days were completed for his circumcision, he was named Jesus, the name given him by the angel before he was conceived in the womb.
22 When the days were completed for their purification according to the law of Moses, they took him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord,
23 just as it is written in the law of the Lord, "Every male that opens the womb shall be consecrated to the Lord,"
24 and to offer the sacrifice of "a pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons," in accordance with the dictate in the law of the Lord.

Something like this:

Or like this

For me ages have a begining and an end.
But when the Son hands over His kingdom to father an age end and "something" begins.
That "something" has a beginning but no end. So for me that can't be an age.
So let's call it "for ever"

BTW I'm not sure 7 days of a week equal 7 ages....

There is  simple list with verses that mention ages. Past age, current age, future age, ....
Anyone?

Hadn't seen The Divine Calendar before, thanks for the link WW. Gotta take a more proper look at it when I'm less tired.

Anyway...

After giving a lot of thought on what's been posted on this thread I'm starting to think the "theology of the ages" really has quite a lot Biblical support for it and therefore probably is true. You know some ET'ers claim Universalists just conjured it up to support their position but if the theology of the ages truly is wrong, then it looks very much like we've got Bible verses that must be translated like "God made the eternities" and "Before eternities began".

This, in turn, disproves Eternal Torment, in my opinion. Were ET true God could just wrap up the game after the 4th/current age already. What sense would it make to torch the unbelievers  throughout some ages first, and then for eternity? On the other hand, if there still are ages to come it kind of proves He has a greater purpose in mind. I'm hoping for UR but at worst it'll be "only" Annihilation.
Behold, I make a few things new.

:cloud9: Because the 7th day is spiritual, and never ending, just as His Spirit is never ending. We enter INTO Christ, who IS the 7th day, no part darkness. Blessings....

:dontknow:

The 7th Day is our Spiritual Rest in Christ ( Spiritual Sabbath ). I Personally Believe we shall Always have Spiritual Rest in Christ that's why I Believe the 7th Day is Endless in the Spiritual Sense and not in the Literal Sense meaning that All who Enter into Christ Enter into His Rest which shall Endure Forever not that we are Stuck in the 7th Day in the Literal Sense and shall Never Come to Enter into the Glorious 8th Day of Spiritual Glorification and New Beginnings. Hope that Made Sense.
