Why do christians think satan is so powerful

I have thought this many times, especially since most christians believe satan will win more souls, the way I've seen it put is something like this

There is a battle going on between God and satan for our souls (which we never asked to be a part of, in the first place), satan is out to deceive us, satan wants people to go to hell so he makes people think he doesn't exist etc etc, but either indirectly, or unwittingly, most christians make satan appear the victor, either by self determination or predestination (which to me TBH doesn't make a difference as the outcome is the same, so it's futile to argue about it for long, only main difference between them is that self destination shifts the blame entirely onto mankind for coming into existence as sinners, which is something that they couldn't control in the first place) and the start of existence, leads to whatever path one follows

In the self destination mode, satan is also blamed for causing man to sin

An interesting thing showed up in a esword search for satan (I must admit I expected to see the name come up more often than it did

In the King James Version the following appears so many times in the entire bible

devil.............57 times
satan.......... 49 times
Jesus......... 942 times
God...........3893 times
Lord..........6749 times
saviour.........37 times
Holy Ghost....89 times

So why do christians think satan is so powerful

I guess because he's a liar. It is much easier to lie than it is to tell the truth, much easier to destroy than to build, easier to hate than to love, easier to.... you get the picture.

One lie for example can seperate your wife/husband from you for weeks.

To me it just shows the awesome power of God, that despite the power and ease of lies, ultimately good will prevail and wins.  :bgdance:

Very good question.  You are addressing it on the level of eternal destiny.

I encounter it in many Christians at the level of personal responsibility.  It seems like people like to have someone to pin the blame on for anything bad that happens or the flaws/mistakes of themselves or others.  Kind of sickens me sometimes the extent to which it is taken.

And on top of that the times that Satan shows up it's not so clear what that satan actually is.
To simplify a red guy with a pitchfork or an evil thought created by your own mind.
It's similar to the claim Jesus spoke about hell 2x more than heaven. But in reality He spoke 10x less about it.
So to me it seems that red midget is promoting himself as a giant he's not.
