Socrates taught Plato.  Plato taught Aristotle.  Aristotle tutored the son of Philip of Macedon.  This boy grew up to become Alexander the Great, largely by slaughtering a lot of people.  That's philosophy.

Laz, It took me the longest time to figure out what your icon was. Looks like one of my children's earliest clay ashtrays Gone Wrong. Then today I googled Kosh Nanarek. Funny :o)

In the Babylon Five universe, Kosh is quite the enigma, maybe even an fnigma.

I am a huge sci-fi fan (not meaning I am huge and love sci-fi, but rather meaning that I like sci-fi a lot) but I have as yet not explored Babylon 5. The Kosh was definitely an unfamiliar enigma to me :o).

Gasp gasp and beyond gasp.  There are also nine stand alone novels, and three trilogies related to the series.  If you start now, you could be all caught up by Thanksgiving.  Hurry Eagle (singing the song to State Fair) don't tarry, don't even delay.

I just finished the Foundation series(Asimov) for the second time(first time 45 years ago). I just finished the Fringe TV series. My son wants me to start the second "Battlestar Galactica" TV series with James Olmos. Might be a couple years before i get around to Babylon 5 but I am intrigued :o)

The appeal of B5 for me is a plot that is character-driven - and what characters!  Every character is well-drawn, filled out, well acted, and mostly unforgettable.  The conflict between G'Kar and Londo Molari alone is worth the price of admission.  The religious/philosophical content is a refreshing change to the oh-so-secular Star Dreck.

Absolutely.

There is also a lot of humour.  The director seems to have thought a lot about what goes on in the background.  You can see two characters discussing something seriously, and subtly off to the side and behind something happens which completes a series of events started three episodes ago.:  like Susan finally coming out of the elevator.

J. Michael Straczynski:  who wrote the majority of episodes (I think 92 or of the 110) called it a novel for television.

Hurry k?  Otherwise you will find that your shoes are too tight, and you will have forgotten how to dance.
