Title: Shine!
Post by: lomarah on January 07, 2013, 06:09:43 PM
Shine by the Maccabeats
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QfieP6H47lc

I love this!! Brings tears to my eyes every time. They are singing about Chanukah but also, to a bigger extent, the Light!! Love it!!

Lyrics:

I see a light, reflection refraction;
Is it nothing more than a chemical reaction;
It flickers and grows, nobody knows;
How much we feel how quickly it goes;
Turn off the dark and vanquish the night;
Show the whole world for eight days at twilight;
Then and now they fought and we fight;
Fight for the right to live by our own light;

Let me see the light;
Give me something to live by;
Let me see the light;
I need something to live by;

Help me see myself in my reflection;
Shine tonight;
Let me shed the light in each direction;
Shining bright;
I wanna see the light;

A million times the speed of sound;
Fast enough to go around;
the world that we live in, so much cold and strife;
One little light to warm another life;
Fill the darkest night with the brightest light;
Cause its time for you to shine;
A little dedication, a small illumination;
Just one person to change a whole nation;

Let me see the light;
Give me something to live by;
Let me see the light;
I need something to live by;
Help me see myself in my reflection;
Shine tonight;
Let me shed the light in all directions;
Shining bright;
I wanna see the light;

Is this spark that we sing of anything;
Hiding somewhere in between everything;
Let the colors burn in a brilliant burst;
Like a shooting star falling to the earth;

Help me see myself in my reflection;
Shine tonight;
Let me shed the light in each direction;
Shining bright

So, I look for Sheila's songs now.  She said when you see--how did you say it Sheila?  How we would know by the signs in the songs that God was pouring his Spirit out on all flesh.  Tell me again.  Is such a thing possible?  Maybe that is when the shine--even if just a little bit-- will come on all men.

"A man sat at a metro station in Washington DC and started to play the violin; it was a cold January morning. He played six Bach pieces for about 45 minutes. During that time, since it was rush hour, it was calculated that 1,100 people went through the station, most of them on their way to work.

Three minutes went by, and a middle aged man noticed there was musician playing. He slowed his pace, and stopped for a few seconds, and then hurried up to meet his schedule.

A minute later, the violinist received his first dollar tip: a woman threw the money in the till and without stopping, and continued to walk.

A few minutes later, someone leaned against the wall to listen to him, but the man looked at his watch and started to walk again. Clearly he was late for work.

The one who paid the most attention was a 3 year old boy. His mother tagged him along, hurried, but the kid stopped to look at the violinist. Finally, the mother pushed hard, and the child continued to walk, turning his head all the time. This action was repeated by several other children. All the parents, without exception, forced them to move on.

In the 45 minutes the musician played, only 6 people stopped and stayed for a while. About 20 gave him money, but continued to walk their normal pace. He collected $32. When he finished playing and silence took over, no one noticed it. No one applauded, nor was there any recognition.

No one knew this, but the violinist was Joshua Bell, one of the most talented musicians in the world. He had just played one of the most intricate pieces ever written, on a violin worth $3.5 million dollars.

Two days before his playing in the subway, Joshua Bell sold out at a theater in Boston where the seats averaged $100.

This is a real story. Joshua Bell playing incognito in the metro station was organized by the Washington Post as part of a social experiment about perception, taste, and priorities of people. The outlines were: in a commonplace environment at an inappropriate hour: Do we perceive beauty? Do we stop to appreciate it? Do we recognize the talent in an unexpected context?

One of the possible conclusions from this experience could be:

If we do not have a moment to stop and listen to one of the best musicians in the world playing the best music ever written, how many other things are we missing?"

Beautiful Dream

I had a dream
A beautiful dream
Clouds evrywhere
Flying though the air
All of you where there
Flowers in your hair
Smiling

Everyone is in my beautiful dream
Golden rivers
Wonderful fields of green
Children dancing and chasing butterflies
Launghing underneath
An endless summer sky,
Endless summer sky

I had a dream
A beautiful dream
Every heart was filled
No blood was spilled
All of you were there
Flowers in your hair
Smiling

Everyone is in my beautiful dream
Golden rivers
Wonderful fields of green
Rainbows shing
Colors everywhere
Not one left behind
Everyone is there,
Everyone is there

I had a dream
It was a beautiful dream

Wrote this last night :o) Coming soon to a subway near you ;o)

Please consider coming soon to an open range (The Big Hole Valley, Pioneer Mountains area of Montana)  ... Currently I live in Minnesota... but I lived in a small college town (1969-1975) about 20 miles from The Big Hole Valley and I dream about riding the open range in Montana...

Cynical??  me, I'm a coveter and upon seeing the violin, I would have immediately begun scheming on how I could get my hands (legally???) on that beautiful musical instrument.  My musical talents consist mostly in appreciating beautiful wooden instruments  ...

You may be an ambassador to England or France
You may like to gamble, you might like to dance
You may be the heavyweight champion of the world
You may be a socialite with a long string of pearls.

But you're gonna have to serve somebody, yes indeed
You're gonna have to serve somebody,
It may be the devil or it may be the Lord
But you're gonna have to serve somebody.

Might be a rock'n' roll adict prancing on the stage
Might have money and drugs at your commands, women in a cage
You may be a business man or some high degree thief
They may call you Doctor or they may call you Chief.

But you're gonna have to serve somebody, yes indeed
You're gonna have to serve somebody,
Well, it may be the devil or it may be the Lord
But you're gonna have to serve somebody.

You may be a state trooper, you might be an young turk
You may be the head of some big TV network
You may be rich or poor, you may be blind or lame
You may be living in another country under another name.

But you're gonna have to serve somebody, yes
You're gonna have to serve somebody,
Well, it may be the devil or it may be the Lord
But you're gonna have to serve somebody.

You may be a construction worker working on a home
You may be living in a mansion or you might live in a dome
You might own guns and you might even own tanks
You might be somebody's landlord you might even own banks.

But you're gonna have to serve somebody, yes
You're gonna have to serve somebody,
Well, it may be the devil or it may be the Lord
But you're gonna have to serve somebody.

You may be a preacher with your spiritual pride
You may be a city councilman taking bribes on the side
You may be working in a barbershop, you may know how to cut hair
You may be somebody's mistress, may be somebody's heir.

But you're gonna have to serve somebody, yes
You're gonna have to serve somebody,
Well, it may be the devil or it may be the Lord
But you're gonna have to serve somebody.

Might like to wear cotton, might like to wear silk
Might like to drink whiskey, might like to drink milk
You might like to eat caviar, you might like to eat bread
You may be sleeping on the floor, sleeping in a king-sized bed.

But you're gonna have to serve somebody, yes indeed
You're gonna have to serve somebody,
It may be the devil or it may be the Lord
But you're gonna have to serve somebody.

You may call me Terry, you may call me Jimmy
You may call me Bobby, you may call me Zimmy
You may call me R.J., you may call me Ray
You may call me anything but no matter what you say.

You're gonna have to serve somebody, yes indeed
You're gonna have to serve somebody,
Well, it may be the devil or it may be the Lord
But you're gonna have to serve somebody.

EW, I loved you poem/song. I had a similar dream/vision/imaginative experience. I saw a large expanse of tall grass, like an endless field, and there were children running, tumbling through it laughing. I was there too with the complete feeling of liberty and joy, but the best part was as we were running and playing, Jesus was there. I remember looking to my left and seeing Him with the biggest smile, a smile so big that I could see all His white teeth. He was beautiful. The thing that struck me most was His joy at watching us. His smile was so big. The scene is difficult to describe in words. He was so beautiful and He was rejoicing over us. I don't have many experiences like this so I don't know what to make of it, but it blessed me beyond words.

I've been wondering somethng lately... is our soul a child? I feel like inside (the soul?) much of the world are still wounded children. Just been pondering that lately.

Interesting question, Lo. My mom (passed on at 57) used to tell me that as she got older, she still felt young inside. As I get older, I think I know what she meant. Perhaps this is a manifestation of the real self apart from this flesh that betrays us. The flesh returns to the ground from which it came, but the spirit to Him who gave it. To be resurrected with the liberty and joy of a child would be amazing, but like CS Lewis's Narnia, there still may be work to do. Oh, the wonder of it all. Like Lewis's mouseketeer Reapacheep (spelling?) I long to be in Aslan territory. Come quickly Jesus.

I remember, upon reading the chronicles of Narnia for the first time, especially the episode where Aslan died, and then was brought back to life, being so caught up in the atmosphere and the spirit of that land :o)

I was a young child then, living in an atheistic household, years and many sorrows away from the glorious freedom of the love of Jesus Christ, the Lion of Judah :o)

Too funny, Lo, and yes EW, I too can be lured away with painful inconsistency. Shiela, you also hit it on the head--I remember the proverb as "hope deferred makes the heart sick". Occasionally I get irritated at my distant lover and stubornly say, I will not chase after You today. I have come to realize I am the only one who suffers in doing so.

That is the way you will see Him.

This was written approximately 25 years AFTER the death and resurrection of Jesus.

1 Tim  2:5-6

"For there is One God and One mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,
who gave himself as a ransom for all men-"

Notice it does not say - the spirit, Christ Jesus
Only the man Christ Jesus could possibly BE our mediator between us people and God the holy spirit.
"The Father is spirit"

Mtt 1;18  this is how the birth of Jesus Christ come about...His mother,Mary, was pledged to be married

to Joseph, but before they came togather..'she was found to be with child through the Holy spirit...

.....who IS this spirit Man?..this last man Adam..who is a quickening spirit.?   food for thought...

He is Jesus, the Messiah, of the lineage of David according to the flesh. The only begotten Son of God in the lineage of the Spirit, the firstborn of many brethren. He was crucified for the sins of mankind. He was raised from the dead on the third day. He was glorified at the Father's right hand and is the fountain of living waters, having received the Spirit without measure.

Ephesians 1:13-23 In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation—having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is given as a pledge of our inheritance, with a view to the redemption of God's own possession, to the praise of His glory.

  For this reason I too, having heard of the faith in the Lord Jesus which exists among you and your love for all the saints, do not cease giving thanks for you, while making mention of you in my prayers; that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Him.  I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe. These are in accordance with the working of the strength of His might which He brought about in Christ, when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. And He put all things in subjection under His feet, and gave Him as head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.

More food for thought :o)

Now we know no man after the flesh (speaking of Jesus who was formerly known that way)

I'm aware of the "He only comes IN us, exhibits Himself in us, etc.." teaching.  I personally believe it's both - he manifests in us, (also often spiritually returns), but will also  literally return at the appointed time ("no man knows the DAY nor the HOUR")  to "judge both the living and the dead".  "We will always be with Him".   "Comfort one another with these words"...

Anyone who sees it some other way, if this isn't correct, please let me know, but I personally believe the teaching that He won't literally return but will only be present in His saints, mainly began to occur in the 1940's, in large part from the "Latter Rain" movement.  If it goes back further than that, please show me, and also why the following scrips mean something different - not through vague, questionable, "over-spiritualizing" interpretations (I've already seen those)   :laughing7:   :Peace2:, but clearly with solid scriptural evidence.  Thanks :)  Because;

IMO, growing into maturity, and having Him literally appear to reign and bring us immortality at His appearing, are not mutually exclusive.  I believe both are scriptural.  I also believe that either their death to go be in His presence, or Christ's return, was the hope of the disciples and Paul, as stated over and over in the scriptures.  Paul said "if I have hope IN THIS LIFE ONLY, I am of all men most miserable." I Cor. 15:19

Jesus' left with a new, different, spiritual body - but it was a body.  Not the flesh and blood of earth, but the body of the New Man.  And we're told just as He went away, He will return.  Acts 1:11  Paul said there is a natural body (flesh and blood) and a spiritual body (a body, but somehow different, some call it "glorified".  One mortal, the other immortal.  I Cor. 15:44

Matthew 25:31-46 when He returns  in His glory that He would judge and separate the righteous from the wicked.

In 2 Thessalonians 1:6-9, Paul uses the promise of Jesus return as a source of comfort to suffering believers and as a warning to those who had persecuted them. ..when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with His mighty angels in flaming fire, dealing out retribution to those who do not know God and to those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus."

Molly are you saying you dont believe in a separate as in outside of you jesus returning anymore?  :dsunny:

No, lol.  I wasn't saying that.  I agree with Jab.   I'm talking about now,  during this age.  It is possible to see Jesus very clearly and tangibly now, but only through spirit.  [I realize there are some exceptions to this, but they are rare.]

John 4:23 Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.

Psalm 145:18 The LORD is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.

God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

"know no man after the flesh"

i.e., change how one views another - spiritual vs. completely earthly connection, relationship, estimation.

Vincent's Word Studies - After the flesh (κατὰ σάρκα)

"He who knows no man after the flesh, has, for example, in the case of the Jew, entirely lost sight of his Jewish origin; in that of the rich man, of his riches; in that of the learned of his learning; in that of the slave, of his servitude"

Barnes - The word "know" here (οἴδαμεν oidamen) is used in the sense of, we form our estimate of; we judge; we are influenced by. Our estimate of man is formed by other views than according to the flesh.

After the flesh - .. in his estimate of people he was not influenced by the views which are taken by those who are unrenewed, and who are unacquainted with the truths of redemption...

Anyone who sees it some other way, if this isn't correct, please let me know, but I personally believe the teaching that He won't literally return but will only be present in His saints, mainly began to occur in the 1940's, in large part from the "Latter Rain" movement.  If it goes back further than that, please show me, and also why the following scrips mean something different - not through vague, questionable, "over-spiritualizing" interpretations (I've already seen those)   :laughing7:   :Peace2:, but clearly with solid scriptural evidence.  Thanks :)  Because;

I personally believe the Lord has always had a remnant of faithful saints among whom He walks and dwells. The Latter Rain was one of the movements to grow out of Azuza Street. Azuza was an outgrowth of some thing that was going on in Scotland. History of Christianity is very sketchy because the establishment churches always write it, but there have been spirit filled churches and revivals since Pentecost, IMO.

It's interesting what you say about believers/remnant all down through history.  I often wonder about that, i.e., the Dark Ages and the condition of the church/believers during that for example.  I'd think surely someone knew Him during that time.

I'm s/w familiar with the Latter Rain movement per se.  As I understand, it was some of the Assembly of God folks (the denomination I grew up in - Azuza connected) that sprouted the movement.  J. Preston Eby, who I like much of his writing, was one of that group.  The Assemblies rejected the movement as a whole, due to some disagreements over teaching.

I personally agree with much of their teachings, but IF the "Jesus doesn't literally return, just appears in us", etc. is indeed one of their teachings that has spread over the past 70 some-odd years, I disagree with that one.   :2c:

Just like when Daniel thought he was the only one worshiping God.
God told him he had 7,000 more just in that area.
I'm confident that there has always been at least a remnant, even when the catholic church ran everything.

Yea, even the Latter Rain movement was really a loosely associated group of churches with some diverse beliefs. From George Warnock, who is still alive in his late 80's I believe, and one of the finest teachers of that generation- to some of the folks who came out of the "Sonship" movement, some of whom began to teach the heresy that Jesus is not returning in flesh and the spirit- spirit only.
Being introduced early(in 1979, at 25 years old in Denver Colorado, I met Bill Britton and George Warnock and a lot of UR and Latter Rain ministers-I was a co- pastor and youth minister then in an independent charismatic church).

In a similar way, the "Ana-baptist" movement which is now historically associated with certain doctrines as if it was almost like- a denomination, was really made up of loosely affiliated groups of churches with some diversity in their beliefs, some of whom were UR.

The common treatment of such groups, the further you go back in history, especially from 600 through 1500  was to deny their existence in every way but to kill or imprison them- but they were always there. IMO there has always been a "tent of witness" on the earth- otherwise, God is not faithful to His promises.... "To whom be the glory in the church to all generations of the age of the ages.

Ephesians 3:20,21  Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen

I would like to qualify my unfortunate usage of the word, "heresy". In my opinion the teaching that Jesus is 1)not resurrected in the flesh 2) that Jesus is not returning in His resurrected, glorified body-as well as in a universal spiritual revelation to all mankind or 3)that we are only resurrected as spirits- is an error and contradicts the word of God. This is what I mean by the word, but it was not a good choice of words because it means different things to different people- no one needs to agree with me, and it does not mean I think someone who believes one of those teachings is not a "Christian"- altho I do believe that all three of those teachings are fundamentally flawed contradictions of the elementary principles of the oracles of God- or to put it simply, just plain wrong :o)

Luke 17;26-37  Indeed God Himself come down to inspect Sodom..in the day He removed Lot and fire come down.

and in Noah's day. one..preaching for 120 yrs the coming deluge.  There was no great spectacle to behold...

  until the fire come down and the rain. Then there was a spectacle.

    Does every eye see Him..before it's too late? Nope.   It is the end of the carnal man..in the corruptible image

  [he who seeks to save his life] and the beginning of the incorruptible image[he who loses his life will preserve it]

   IT WILL BE JUST LIKE THIS ON THE DAY THE SON OF MAN IS REVEALED.

  now,Abraham and Sarah got word of a manchild  to be born to them..promised to be born of the free woman

  on the day God come down to inspect Sodom and deliver Lot.[Rev 11;19-12;5]see preceding 7th trump

  and God's temple in Heaven was opened,and within His temple was seen the Ark of His covenant

   the door of Heaven[Ark] is opened...Jesus Christ is the door.  Read the parable of the ten virgins..

  5 wise[wisdom from Above] 5 foolish[carnal corrupt image].....

   Now learn this lesson of the figtree,as soon as it's twigs get tender and it's leaves come out,you know

that summer is near. Even so,when you see all these things,you know that it is near..right at the door.

  so He who was seated upon the cloud swung His sickle over the earth,and the earth was harvested

add also the plagues worked on Egypt when God delivered His people from bondage to the prince of this world.

   three wittnesses....Lot/manchild of Sarah....Noah/Ark opened in Heaven.....7th trumpet plagues worked

as against Egypt....[bodies of two wittnesses dead in street of sodom and Egypt]
