Title: Heard from an atheist
Post by: ded2daworld on July 02, 2013, 12:45:16 AM
Heard from an atheist,

"I've got nothing against God - it's his fan club that I can't stand"

Remind him that the majority of the fan club are incredibly deceived and taken captive to do the devil's will and thus to have empathy for them rather than hate.  :HeartThrob:

thanks ded2daworld...  I've been thinking a lot about Ghandi's quote "I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians.  They are so unlike your Christ."   I think that often when people seem to be rejecting our belief system, they are not so much rejecting the belief, but our behavior and our words and how we relate to one another.

In my opinion, there will be a time when all followers of Christ can treat each other and all others as they themselves would like to be treated. I do not think that time is tomorrow.

Paul said, treat younger people as sons and daughters. Treat those your age as brothers and sisters, treat those older as mother and father.  He also said to treat others we meet as if it were Christ himself. Good advice. :Peace2:

I've heard that a lot. Somebody I know said to me a while ago, "Jesus was a pretty cool guy, but a lot of his followers act like the cruel God of the Old Testament." The thing with atheists is that a lot of them see the hypocrisy in a lot of Christian groups, but they also don't understand God well enough to know His purpose of doing all those crazy things in the old testament.

Absolutely!!  :iagree: You said it! that's surely, so true!! Two biG things which keep people from perceiving truth.. perceiving God (Yahweh)

We would all be beside ourselves if we didn't know UR! Wouldn't we? Oh my goodness! (I might as well say OMG as say Oh my Goodness :Chinscratch: ). I think that's another thing which hides the truth/God, because many of His followers are frantic, so they are like a clanging bell, as Paul put it, not that they don't love, but they are too persistent, appearing obnoxious, anxious, even angry (frustrated) when they cannot get their point across. But all of it based upon an untruth..

I was reading one of Gary Amirault's essays yesterday, "Who Chooses Who," and he summed it up nicely.  He said that the world sees Christians as judgmental, condescending, condemning, and unloving, because they are on the receiving end of those things.  Christians don't see themselves that way, because they are on the other end of the spectrum where they are receiving the love and fellowship.

Sounds like to me that the average Christian does not treat unbelievers with the same respect that other Christians get from them.  Some self examination may be in order here.
