Title: universalists editing wikipedia
Post by: sven on November 06, 2009, 06:58:20 PM
I saw recently that many articles in German wikipedia seem to have been edited by Christian universalists, for examples entries on "hell", "aion", the story of the rich man and Lazarus. I'm not registered at wikipedia, has anybody of you thought about editing wikipedia entries? Of course such editings should be 'professional' and scholarly with references to trustworthy sources - what do you think?

Hi Sven and Card
I think that is why most dont trust the wikipedia  as a good resource

because it is manipulated  often .
I sure am not qualified
I cannot even be clear in English  hee hee  :laughing7:

Rose you could just copy all books from Gary's site there as info
Seriously copying a short article there could be a good start. Many articles have a external link section. So 'we' could add a few UR site links...

/EDIT I didn't even understood what I wrote... So done "some" editing.

Guys, there is already several pages which touch on the topic.  These give a general overview:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christian_Universalism
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universal_reconciliation

They both reference tentmaker and many other sites as references.  This one is also interesting:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Problem_of_Hell

Even the "lake of fire" wikipedia page has a UR link:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake_of_fire

Anyone can update these pages but as they are supposed to be "unbiased encyclopedic" entries, the text must be written from that viewpoint.  Pure "opinion" comments like "ETers are wrong" would simply be deleted.  Its better to just give the facts ie. "the word hell has been mistranslated in many bibles" etc.

Here is another page relevant to the "aion/eternal" issue:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aeon

Someone may want to touch-up that one to more clearly indicate the facts and the translation issues with "aion/eternal" in many of our modern bibles.

I tried to edit a German entry on "aion", you do not have to be registered, I added some information about the Septuagint where aion can impossibly mean eternity, my changes however, have not been accepted, somebody has to permit the changes, this has not happened yet - so I do not know if it's worth the effort  :dontknow:

Interesting... I think the english version anyone can edit and then it is available immediately.  However it is very easy to revert someones edits to go back to the previous version.  So if someone doesn't like your edit they can just set it back to the previous version.  HOWEVER you can also do the same thing to revert your changes back.  There can be a bit of a battle back and forth until some agreement comes, or until one person gives up.  Ultimately if what you have written is on-topic, honest, and factual, there should be no reason to reject it.

Even if it could possibly be interpreted as opinion, you can always preface it with "Christian universalists believe ...".  But for things like aion, it is easy to factually show that aion cannot mean eternal in some cases.

And when the changing gets out of hand I can understand some sort of moderation is required.

That list could/should be much longer.
Check out the links. Not all seems to belong in there.

As far as I know, has done quite a bit of editing of those in the past, that's why they were as good as they were 'cause he's good on scholarship even if he very seriously doesn't do discussion boards well at all.  Just, I've never kept track of that, so have no idea if some fundamentalists have challenged his updates to that stuff as unverified or whatever, or have changed anything in favor of the ET garbage.

I think that last part was quite unessisary... :sigh:
