I've had depression all my life, I suppose if hell is a feeling of eternal shame, I am in hell and wouldn't notice a bit of difference when I arrive in hell if I am not there already.

While I do not have time to go through their article I can't help but notice that they assert that the universalists appeal to emotion concerning many of the if hell is real questions.   This is a valid point from any theological stand point.   Whether hell is "fair" or whether the idea is offensive or sick sounding is indeed irrelevant to whether it is real or true.

I only say this because arguments should be sound and reasonable and not just ploys that tweak our emotions in order to leverage them to a particular way of thinking.


However, with that said, the whole idea that eternal separation from God is just a deep shame that is endless is indeed an emotional ploy to get people to see the idea of eternal separation from God in a less offensive light.

I mean,  really, like I said,  if all I have to suffer  (if someone is trying to warn me of something  :) ) is as deep sorrowful feeling.... Big Deal,  I have plenty of practice and have learned to live with it quite well.

What could possibly warrant a retributive form of punishment
for an infinite duration with incalculable suffering or shame?

Yes they seemed to duck and dive, twist scripture and seldom supplied any scripture...Even when they did it seemed totally off topic...

One example was this one...

ANSWER FROM TEKTONICS#Why should he have done so? Paul wrote to Christians whose salvation was already assured; the place to check is preaching to unbelievers, as in Acts, and there, it is clear that warnings of punishment (Acts 2:40) could be part of the package. However, once again, the universal presuppositions of honor and shame meant that there was no need to be any more explicit. The concepts of honor, shame, and limited good meant that no one needed to be told that shame would be the result of their sin.

MY RESPONSE #So...Paul, who was commissioned by God to preach the gospel to the nations never once says in ANY of his epistles (which direct Christians FULLY to lead a Christian life, IE he instructs them on EVERY POSSIBLE matter and tells us how WE as believers are to instruct OTHERS), anything such as "Warn people that unless they accept Christ they will burn in hell forever" (or something like that), Paul NEVER MENTIONS any form of hell or infinite punishment, instead what Paul actually says is that God has reconciled the WORLD to Himself through Christ , not counting men's sins against them and has given us the message (good news) of reconcilliation. Paul then states that God is savior of all mankind and that we are to command and teach these things.

One final point. This website quoted ACTS 2:40 which they say COULD be a part of the package (of punishment). (Eternal torment/seperation/death). 

Acts 2:40 Says this....
With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, "Save yourselves from this corrupt generation."

Er...Yeh.
What Paul is saying is clearly "Save yourselves from this corrupt generation". Not...Save yourselves from an eternity of seperation/burning/death (whatever that website believes, im not even sure they know themselves).

Since the Lord has illuminated me through the ministry and teachings of Spirit filled men and woman, provoking me (yes they provoked me) to study the Book and see what The Word says.
I am always amazed at how the many souls who call themselves God fearing and God loving believers in Jesus Christ and His Saving Grace can with the same breath sing halleujah, praise Your Holy Name, then turn and witness, that millions of souls will be going to a place of such hedious torture and pain, as Jesus Christ and His angels watch;
and call it Justice, call it God's Love, and call it The Good News, well I am just amazed that they can embrace such a God. :sigh: my  :2c:

It is very strange.  I cant understand it either.  How they can reconcile Jesus with the thought of eternal torture....Its completely opposite to what Jesus is like....Its a great deception thats for sure.
