Has the devil really been silenced?

I think the atonement is misunderstood.   The church makes it sound like God the Father could not love us unless his son Jesus was killed.   I think that is the wrong way to look at it.  I think it was evil men who demanded a sacrifice to appease their anger.   But I realize that is not what most of the church teaches or believes.  I'm a heretic.

This is a sore point for some non-christians, that God would be cruel enough to sacrifice his son for sins when he could do it another way, being all powerful. One way to look at the atonement is not an angry God sacrificing his son Jesus for for the need of stern justice, but that God came to be one of us and to suffer as one of us in the worst way.

See, how I love you! I know that you suffer so I will suffer also and heal all of you.

I agree Werner, that's part of it.  

As for the other part(s), God's not surprised by anything, so I believe He knew it would be a "sore point" for some non-Christians (and Christians) when He did what I believe the scriptures so clearly teach - place our sins upon His Son, and offer Him as the perfect Sacrifice.  

There are many things about the Gospel that don't appeal to our flesh , but God, in His sovereignty and mercy,
knows how to get past all that.  It's His plan, and He'll work it all for our good and His glory.

  God  through Death showed His Glory though His Son Jesus Christ  , that many would also believe

  the thing is Christ did not Die in Vain it was very  important and purposeful ... openly showing   Gods power to raise the dead to life again and Christ given all things  as the Father

Jhn 17:2   As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him.

Jhn 17:4   I have glorified you on the earth: I have finished the work whichyou gave me to do. 


Jhn 17:5   And now, O Father, glorify  me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.
