I just got this in my email from my sister-in-law. Everytime she sends me anything about God or Christ it is often
a fearful type of email like this one implying that God is angry and sent certain famous people instantly to hell for
mocking him. I don't respond to these, but at times I feel like writing her back to tell her how I feel about them.
If God really is in the habit of striking people dead, I can think of more than a few bad people he missed! Also, I think
she has taken the scripture out of context for her own "proof". I know many atheists and people who mock God and it does
grieve me, but God has yet to strike them dead before my eyes. Do any of you get this type of email?

The hell part is implied because I know my sister-in-law and what she believes.
I suppose she may also believe that by sending these type of emails she is doing what she ought to do.
It just bugs me because she knows I'm a universalist believer and I always wonder if these kind of emails
are her way of reinforcing the fact that she thinks I'm wrong about UR (which she does, think I'm wrong, that is).
If you go back and read her email, I think it does imply something rather negative about certain famous people such as John Lennon and Marilyn Monroe
and the thing is, who even knows if such hear-say stories about these people are even true? To use this type of email as an 'evangelistic tool' seems
wrong to me.

It's amazing how you can see right through a person and their beliefs by stuff like this.
How, if someone were to "mock" them personally, they would probably not forgive this person, they would shun them and cast them out from their life. (because that is what God would do, right? oh wait, no God would kill them and then usher them into eternal flames.) So, instead of taking into account how a person is obviously ignorant of God's immense love for them (because if they knew it sincerely, they of course would not mock), they are pleased with their sad deaths?
They are worried about people mocking God? Why? Why are they worried? Why do they take pleasure in these people being killed, or dying sad deaths?
Shouldn't they see these people mocking God, and instead of getting all upset and angry and vengenful, shouldn't they just take that as a sign that they do not understand God's love for them and that they need help? This is a sign. Waving in the air.... :help: "Help me! :dontknow: I don't realize how loved I am... can you help...???" :sigh: This is how we know that a fellow brother or sister doesn't know how much God loves them. It isn't an opportunity to mock them BACK! For God's sake.
So... this email to me...actually is just another sign waving in the air.. "Help me! I don't realize how much God loves us...!!!!! Help... I am in darkness.... and I don't know it...."
The sender of this email is in a lot of darkness.
She won't always be. But for now, she is.

I just listened to a podcast of NPR's FreshAir http://www.npr.org/templates/rundowns/rundown.php?prgId=13 in which Terry Gross plays back an interview she did previously with the Pulitzer prize winning author of 'Angela's Ashes', Frank McCort who just died this week at age 78. In the memoir of his childhood, 'Angela's Ashes', he recounts his miserable childhood in Limerick, Ireland as a Catholic. In the interview he jokes about how miserable an Irish Catholic childhood is compared to, say, a Jewish childhood because of all the tales taught them about an eternal fiery hell full of devils with pitchforks. To hear him tell it, everyone was miserable in those days. Poor and constantly wet and damp from unending rain which caused a cacophony of coughs and a constant parade of funerals. I never read that book before, but after hearing his post-humus interview - I may look for a copy. It seems I'm off topic by now - and I think that is probably a good thing.

When looking for articles I found a church that dumped teh KJV when they found out.
Homosexuality is not my thing but I don't care if he was gay. He cheated his wife. That's more disturbing to me. (unless she agreed ofcourse)

Whitewings - I read the KingJames bible because it is the one I have committed to memory and know how to look up certain scriptures more easily that way. There are so many versions of the bible - if I read them all, I'd find it somewhat confusing.

I found that about 2 or 3 years ago and had it stored in my pictures files and I loved it to , I remember how Job spoke to the Lord God from the whirlwind and in Job 37 was very signifigant for me personally with the Lightning , they are very symbolic

I also received the very same email from one of the elders of the church I used to go to, I could never forward something so vile and unspeakable to anyone, the implications of why he sent the email to me were so obvious, he's trying to scare me back into submission, I haven't attended that church for well over a year
I went to my psychiatrist today and told him how negatively the christian doctrine of hell has affected me, he is Jewish and he told me that Jews don't believe in the concept of ET, but they believe in some type of temporary purification (he himself has been a victim of some type of Xtian fearmongering), Jews don't believe that people who don't convert to their religion will be tortured forever, logically to me Christianity SHOULD follow on from Judaism, the only difference being that Christians accept Jesus as the messiah
