What is the best Bible translation that you would recommend?

For me, I do not believe it really matters since it is His Spirit that guides us in all truth.

Only New Testament and Psalms, but my daily reader.  I have other literal translations, but this is my go-to  :)

  I have this  on another   thread , but it applies here too .

I was brain washed   by persuasion  into thinking  King James only    ,  and that was hard to undo  as were many  things we are taught of men to follow and pursue .

I would love to help you out  , but not sure how ,    the Bible hub  https://biblehub.com/has some amazing bible translations  on the same scriptures   and that helped me once the fear of  being misled was  replaced by faith in God to help
anyone at any time and any where , God so chooses to do so .

It took several things to   loose the bondage  of that  " death   hold " thinking on me personally  , I was raised   in a hell fire Baptist 
preaching  environment for most of my childhood    and young adult life .
  It was when Jesus told  a young  disciple he had chosen   , when asked if he could bury his father   , Jesus told him , "Let the dead bury   their dead ",  you come follow Me "  by proclaiming   the   Kingdom of God .    For me , it is   the good news of the gospel  and ministry of reconciliation  and the  joy set before us  keeping the hope alive  though sharing and caring  for the ones seeking to  find the Lords presence in their lives also  and gather in His   Holy name .

  It took many  things  ,  by the Holy Spirit   , guiding the course  ,   the death of my brother ,  meeting my sister and her testimony ,  being led  the Kingdomtalk and than here to the Tentmaker   site   and just a lot of reading and searching things out with the  Blue Letter bible   site   bible hub and many handy   bible tools    and brothers and sisters  coming and going  , asking Jesus a million questions  in alone times . etc .   just to get this far .
I am a poor writer and  have a hard time putting in words  such thoughts ,  but by the grace of GOD , we do as we are led   to do .trusting in God  all the while ,   and His  power to do as He so  chooses too, by the Lord Jesus Christ  , quickening  His own Word by His own Spirit  in us all .   we keep on keeping on .

One of the major challenges facing a person is knowing which Bible to study. There are so many translations. Some are truer to the original text than others. Some are translated to make it easier for the modern reader to understand, but often contain inaccuracies.

Each translation has the power to transform your life. However, although there is great value in reading and studying any of these versions, some can lead to a misunderstanding of the original intent and meaning of verses and words. If you desire to get to the real meaning and intent of scripture, you need to read a translation that most closely replicates the original language of the Hebrew, Aramaic or Greek text.

However some will say that a translation should transfer the message, that is, the exact thought and emotion of the original text. To do this, it should use as many words as are necessary to reproduce the idea precisely in English. This is a noble goal but often results in the translators own preconceived ideas and biases as to what the exact thought of the original inspired writers was. They are often off the mark.

Those of us who love God's Word, have choices on which bible version to study. Many who have a bible will say that theirs is the best. Maybe because it is easy to read, maybe it is the version their parents used, maybe it is the one their church endorses.

A concordance can be used to derive a deeper meaning of words or phrases. The concordant method of studying the scriptures uses a concordance to discover the meaning of a word in the original text. Look up the occurrences of the word in the Hebrew, Chaldee, or Greek, and determine how it may be translated into English.

So, which bible to use? The solution is to have one or more that is as close a translation to the original text as possible. This includes Rotherham's Emphasized Bible, Modern Young's Literal (mentioned by Jabcat), the Concordant Literal Version or the Emphatic Diaglott (NT only). They are most certainly not the most popular, but they are the most true to God's inspired word

I have been enjoying a version simply called "The Scriptures," translated by a group in South Africa and printed in (of all places) China.  So far, it leaves "hell" out and has a particular Hebraic flavor, since it renders God's name and Jesus' names in Hebrew.  A full recommendation must wait until I am done reading it, but it looks very promising.  I stumbled onto it at half-price books.

I also like the Ferrar Fenton Version.  It does things no other version does, such as appending I John at the end of John's Gospel, and translating the Song of Songs in dramatic format.  It works, but Fenton did rely too much on modern scholarship (Westcott and Hort).
Socrates taught Plato.  Plato taught Aristotle.  Aristotle tutored the son of Philip of Macedon.  This boy grew up to become Alexander the Great, largely by slaughtering a lot of people.  That's philosophy.

Jesus spoke the Truth.  He blessed the poor.  He healed the sick.  He even raised the dead.  He died on a cross for us, lived again, and came back long enough to tell us to love one another.  That's religion.

I believe you have to  look at the best  version that helps you understand better , what helps you be  FREE IN CHRIST as your new head and authority  on truth  matters

I have enjoyed many versions and checked out  all of them  by comparing them to each other   for meaning , and it is not for nothing , God s love and Light will   shine and break though  those dark areas  and give you peace  , keep looking and praying and asking Him for truth and help  Victor .

No, we neither make nor save ourselves. God does both the making and saving.


He creates each of us by Christ Jesus to join him in the work he does, the good work he has gotten ready for us to do, work we had better be doing.

   The message to me is not anything more than a helpful   boost  when I get super discouraged  in life and need a simple  push  , not to get  down and out  , because there are times when it happens   to the best of us , I believe so .
sometimes no Word helps it is only the Holy Spirit Itself   that breathes  in deeply   and exhales    relief .  Romans 8:26 
26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.

After having about 10 different hardback versions[quiet times ]  and the online  bible gateway  & bible hub  & bible tools  and yes, google searches  :laughing7: , the best we can do is dig in and deeply  keep praying for the hunger and thirst  desiring to Know God in all His glory  will not fail any of us EVER  .
I HAVE  complete  CONFIDENCE IN GOD   to do as HE promises  HE will do .  and I love Him so much for that . God knows .

The Aionian Bible is a great improvement over the modern popular translations in use today such as the NIV, RSV, NKJV, among others. It correctly uses the words hades rather than hell, age or ages (eon or eons) rather than eternity or forever and ever, and gehenna rather than hell. This is consistent with the Greek.

Other than these valuable corrections, it does not deal with some other difficulties that modern versions have.

A major problem is the use of the word consummate instead of eonian (aiōnios g166). This is inappropriate IMO. Eonian is the adjective form of eon.

Example of one scripture from the Aionian Bible :

Mat 25:46 These will go away into consummate (aiōnios g166) punishment, but the righteous into consummate (aiōnios g166) life."

Dictionary meaning of consummate:

adjective-   perfect, excellent, ideal, flawless, supreme, complete, absolute, total, unmitigated, utter,

This word "consummate" falls short of real meaning. Rotherham translates it as age-abiding. Youngs translates it as age during. Concordant Literal Version translates it as eonian. Eonian is an authentic English word.

There are other inconsistencies in this Aionian Bible but are not as consequential as the one  mentioned above. Overall it is a good version, much better than the versions in common usage today.  Every version is of some benefit leading to understanding God, but some versions provide deeper spiritual understanding than others. I hope the Aionian Bible grows in popularity.

Are our broadest hopes broad enough? Shall there be a nook or abyss, in all the universe of God, finally unlightened by the Cross? Shall there be a sin, or sorrow, or pain unhealed? Is the very universe, is creation in all its extent, a field wide enough for the Son of God?
