If the past were relevant, NO ONE would inherit the kingdom of God. Paul said, "I die daily." That "old man" (or woman) who existed the day before is gone. Each day we live, we grow and learn, and the person we knew (ourselves) the day before is dead and gone.

  To me the outer darkness  with weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth 
two places I have  found in the Word where these are found IN outer darkness because of their gnashing of teeth   

I love simple answers  , plain and easy to remember  ,  outer darkness greek meanings help its  in a place  limited outside and void of Light  , Light is considered Knowledge of God   
by this very scripture  here  , Jesus is the Light of the world   and  seeing Jesus face  is how we will recognize Him  by the Scriptures [open the scriptures to understand them ] and Holy Spirit [ oil  to our lamps l]
lamps are eyes of understanding  also lampstands  are   the seven churches  [ seven eyes   written on ONE STONE [JESUS CHRIST ]

darkness  means ignorance to the ways of God  , here is the greek meaning to help metaphorically speaking     to me means cut off from   Jesus Christ to just stumble  and never   coming to the knowledge of Truth   because the Holy Spirit    has left    them  at this time

Paul says here  that  the Holy Spirit bears witness   to him that he is indeed   walking in faith and not lying  .

  the wedding party is the LOVE FEASTS  , and if your  no allowed to attend  , like the man with no wedding garment , he was bound hand and foot and cast out of the celebrating

  I would say cut off  momentarily   till you learn to fear the Lord and show respect   and pray for forgiveness and ask the Holy Spirit to help you

hypocrites because of it..for the law shows they have sin.But they sit in judgement of the law..and hypocritically declare

themselves righteous by the law[not the purpose of law,law can not make perfect]  Cheating pair of scales they use.

they refuse the spirit of truth/grace/forgiveness of sin/not counting tresspasses against you.

  they refuse to enter through grace..instead preferring the work of their own hands[law] which where shown as wicked

when they condemned their Messiah and killed Him..not only did they fail to say'Blessed is he who comes in the name

of the Lord" and fail to enter..but hindered those who would[accept grace as basis for salvation and not works of our own hands]

thus they find theirselves outside the kingdom..while harlots and tax-collectors enter through grace..and a righteousness

Ken, Do you think that is not so much the "attitude" of a believer but what is in the heart. Many people struggle with sin but yet it is in their hearts to please God and be free? Just a thought.

For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate." [Romans 7.15, ESV]  Paul was also painfully familiar with this scenario we (believers) face.  It implies that we have the ability to make choices, and that we tend to keep making poor choices, despite our desire to please God by following his precepts.  Paul seemed to have taught, over and over, that we ought to strive harder to make the right lifestyle choices.
