The church and torture.

I'm forming a debate with someone. The basis for the most part the early church was UR. It will deal with when and why the doctrine of Eternal torture became the theme of the overall church. What I would like to do is show how this concept changed the church. I want to show as much as possible, that when the church took on the doctrine of ET, the church also became an agent of human torture. We all know the horrors that religion has put upon man with it's many tortures, burning people, boiling them in water, disemboweling, ect...From what I have studied, there is a clear connection that when the church accepted ET, feeling justified that God tortures, that man could also. So many were tortured in the name of God. So any help with these two themes.

The early church was more UR than not.

That when the church accepted ET, it connects and started the behavior of religion becoming agents of torture on earth. After all, if God can do it, why not man.
