Proverbs 29:1-A man who hardens his neck after much reproof Will suddenly be broken beyond remedy.

Does that mean once a man hardens his neck there is no hope either in this life or the next? How does the Universalist see this passage?

I.M.O no hope in this life- many are in that situation.

1 Cor 3;15" If someone's work is burned up, he will suffer loss;
                  however, he himself will be saved,  but only as through fire."

Amen, :iagree: I was curious so checked out the interlinear word for word with links to the original words used, and found it interesting that "destroyed" in the original Greek, also means "broken, shattered".. which is what I believe happens to us all just before we repent and are born again..

Even should someone die in that condition of hardness, I believe this verse sheds a lot of light also - 2 Peter 2:9 - "God knows how to preserve the unjust for CORRECTION/kolasis on day of judgment." ("The judgment" Jesus talked about, which I believe is an age/aionian- if that's the right tense, lol.

Jesus said "all those in the tombs (graves) will hear His voice and will come forth" (from the graves/tombs) "..some in the resurrection of life" (which is at Jesus' return) "and some in the resurrection of judgment" (which is "after the thousand years"/the millennium, first age after this one.

eternal punishment in hell' isnt 'sudden'.....it's the opposite, it's never ending....so this doesn't sound like everlasting hell.....eternal torment in hell is a lie anyway because it does not explain verses like John 1:29
'on the morrow John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, 'Lo, the Lamb of God, who is taking away the sin of the world' (Young's Literal Translation);
TAKING AWAY = Strongs Concordance no. 142 [e]   αἴρων=airōn
airōn =   taking away   αἴρων= Verb – Present Participle Active-
Jesus is actively taking away the sin of the world !.....I believe this could mean each new generation,replacing the prior one, experiences it's sin 'taken away', in a very real sense.This blows me away !.

Proverbs 29:1

I myself view this Proverb in a different way than most, and that is because it relates to "we are nothing without Christ", and also that "we have become a new creature" and lastly that we were "subjected to vanity, not willingly".

If everything in the Old Testament is a testament to "He that would come", about Jesus, then this Proverb is about what Jesus would do for us when He did come.

I believe this Proverb is about being humbled

Pro 29:1  He, (H376) that being often reproved (H8433) hardeneth (H7185) his neck (H6203), shall suddenly (H6621) be destroyed (H7665), and that without (H369) remedy (H4832).

Take this verse at face value, each word separately, H376 (He), H8433 (chastisement), H7185 (dense), H6203 (neck), H6621 (to open the eyes), H7665 (bursts), H369 (to be nothing), and H4832 (a cure)

God calls His people a stiff-necked people, which I believe is an observation by Him that they will not submit to His authority. But they will submit to the authority of Christ in the end, for every knee shall bow (along with the head).

The word "neck" in this Proverb has to do with the back of the neck, that the muscles in the back of the neck are stiff, and if they are stiff, then we are unable to tilt our head forward, in other words, we are unable to bow our heads, bow our heads in humbleness.

If this verse is about Christ, understanding that the word "he" at the beginning of the Proverb, we can see what Christ will do for us. The word "chastisement", we also understand as correction, so in all of this we can understand the first part of this Proverb as: "Christ, corrects a stiff neck".

The next part, with H6621 and H7665 we can see what happens when He corrects the stiff neck, that our eyes are opened, in other words, that our eyes our opened to humbleness, a bowing to His authority, and that the next word "bursts" also has in its definition "to bring to birth", which relates to the new creature, a new creature of humbleness and that we would see this when Jesus walked among us and we should follow in His footsteps to a death of the flesh, the death of pride in the flesh.

Then with the last part with the words, H369 (to be nothing) and H4832 (a cure), that understanding the vanity (uselessness, nothingness) that we were subjected to, now becomes a new understanding because of the bursting forth of the new creature, that we understand that "we are nothing without Christ" and that coming to this conclusion is "the cure" for pride.

With all this being said, I myself view this Proverb as:

Christ, corrects a stiff neck, opens our eyes, being birthed in nothingness, the cure.

And how many more understandings can be related to this, "let there be light", the idea of "a barren womb", Christ being formed in us, "let us create man in our image (light)"

Amen.. I think there will be, at the judgment, many - initially - who have stiff necks and hardened hearts.. (some because of the et so called gospel) but over the course of the judgment / "correction" time, they too will be humbled, realize that w/o "the seed, Jesus" in us, we/they are empty/destroyed. And the kingdom/dominion of God is what their heart ultimately has always been seeking!
