Knowledge of Scripture does not mean you have Revelation of them.

You can quote scriptures till your blue in the face... unless one has revelation knowledge..they are often taken out of context and false doctrines are created.

Example: Whoever gives scripture references and lifts them up individually and says "see I told you so, it means this" without comparing the subject with all the other scriptures that pertain to that subject, and letting the clearer scriptures interpret the not so clear  scriptures is twisting God's word to support their human reasoning.

You find where the subject starts and finishes and read the scripture in context and you can avoid butchering God's word for human reasoning, of course, all by the guidance of the Spirit of truth.

What a busy little laddy you are!

Do you know what ephphatha means? You are most assuredly standing in need of the experience!
Are our broadest hopes broad enough? Shall there be a nook or abyss, in all the universe of God, finally unlightened by the Cross? Shall there be a sin, or sorrow, or pain unhealed? Is the very universe, is creation in all its extent, a field wide enough for the Son of God?

Beloved Servant

Ya' know guy, I don't know what your purpose here is.
Is it your aim to close down this board a shut-up the Web site?
Are you also doing this to Catholic, Islamic and Jewish discussion boards or just this one?

And the sad thing is that we (I mean myself included) are giving him the fuel he needs to continue. Let a person swing in the air long enough and they will tire out. And personally I do not care if you feel I am hijacking a thread, if it means exposing you for what you are doing. I used to be like you, acting like I am interested so that I can keep a conversation going, when all the while I have no intention of changing, even though I would never say it to your face.

Hey Beloved Servant,

My purpose here is simple: to learn the truth by iron sharpening iron.

Quote from: CoG37You find where the subject starts and finishes and read the scripture in context and you can avoid butchering God's word for human reasoning, of course, all by the guidance of the Spirit of truth.

Actually, that is how a Pharisee would have been able to disprove Matthew. Case in point:

Exodus 4:22-23
Then (Moses) say to Pharaoh, 'This is what the LORD says: Israel is my firstborn son, and I told you,
"Let my son go, so he may worship me." But you refused to let him go; so I will kill your firstborn son.'"

Hosea 11:1-2
The LORD continues,"When Israel was a young nation, I loved them. I chose to bring my son out of Egypt. But the more I called out to Israel, the further they went away from me. They brought sacrifices to the statues of the gods that were named after Baal. And they burned incense to them.

Context? A statement about the nation of Israel.

Matthew's exegesis:

Matthew 2:13-15
An angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. "Get up," he said, "take (Jesus) and his mother and escape to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to search for the child to kill him." So he got up, took the child and his mother during the night and left for Egypt, They stayed there until King Herod died. So the words the Lord had spoken through the prophet came true. He had said, "I chose to bring my son out of Egypt."

Now, a Pharisee could see that interpretation of Hosea and say: "You can quote that scripture until you are blue in the face, but it refers to the nation of Israel not you your Jesus."

Now you say that we cannot understand scripture apart from revelation. True, and nobody disagrees that man must have supernatural revelation to know what the scriptures mean. Unfortunately, you attempt to attach this method:

"You find where the subject starts and finishes and read the scripture in context and you can avoid butchering God's word for human reasoning, of course, all by the guidance of the Spirit of truth. "

You attempt to COMBINE a man centered method, with the Spirit of truth. The fact is that Matthew understood Hosea's prophecy ONLY through the Spirit, and NOT by "finding where the subject started and finishes." If he followed that foolish advice he would not have been able to say that JESUS is God's first born Son according to the prophecy.

ChosenofGod37

Seth,

Are you comparing God inspiring Matthew writing His eternal gospel with the proper way for believers to interpret it?  :mblush:  :dontknow:

sven

for me reason and logic is very important.

I think God has given any man a moral conscience, a bible exegesis should not go against all sane reason and being in itself contradictive.

but basically you're right, the Pharisees had a great knowledge of scripture also, yet they persecuted and killed Christ.

ChosenofGod37

Sven,

Acts 4:27-28

27"For truly in this city there were gathered together against Your holy (A)servant Jesus, whom You anointed, both (B)Herod and (C)Pontius Pilate, along with (D)the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel,

28to do whatever Your hand and (E)Your purpose predestined to occur.

Cross references:

   A. Acts 4:27 : Acts 3:13; 4:30
   B. Acts 4:27 : Matt 14:1; Luke 23:7-11
   C  Acts 4:27 : Matt 27:2; Mark 15:1; Luke 23:1, 12; John 18:28, 29
   D. Acts 4:27 : Matt 20:19

No, I am saying that man cannot attach man-centered methods to scripture interpretation as an additive to supernatural revelation. Had Matthew followed your advice, the Pharisees would be able to prove him wrong, and Matthew would not be able to appeal to context.

Revelation is the ONLY way. I am not saying that context is not useful to understand a teacher's meaning, but your method of "observing the subject" through context is not valuable in interpreting scripture as being an additive to what God SAYS the meaning is.

The reason Christians usually want to make up such rules (which were regularly broken by the Apostles) is to maintain "unity." Unfortunately, unity can only be maintained in the Spirit who is the only one able to establish who understands and who does not. There is NO admonition to observe the subject from beginning to end in the NT. The Apostles NEVER gave such advice, so why are you?

Why are you making up rules for US to follow when the Apostles broke those same rules and never substantiated your advice?

ChosenofGod37

No rules, guidelines. Yes, false religion and doctrine are created by taking a verse out of context, lifting it up and saying it means this.

sven

QuoteGod ordained it to happen. The pharisee were blind mice.( John 8:39-47)

and yet they knew the scripture more than anyone else I suppose, how do you know who are the blind mice on the subject of universalism?

Seth

True, false religion can be created that way. Also, truth has been established that way. Matthew lifted the verse out of context and declared it to be a prophecy about Christ. No contextual analysis could lead him to say that other than revelation of God.

Your guideline was never substantiated by the Apostles.

gregoryfl

Its a product of Greek philosophy is what it is, if you check out the history. It has its uses, but it ends up making the scriptures look foolish to the mind of man.

Ron

Seth

Amen, the Greeks were adept at being educated, while inept at understanding God through their methods.

Those who promote the erroneous (false) doctrine of "limited atonement" merely exalt themselves within their own heart.

"But as it is written, Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God has prepared for them that love him. But God has revealed them to us by his Spirit: for his Spirit searches all things, yes, even the deep things of God." (1Corinthians 2:9-10)

This has probably already been said, but take your own advice...

First of all revelation only comes from the Father, And that is what the whole story in the below is all about, but 99% of mankind don't even see that the story has EVERYTHING to do with revelation.

King James V,
What is the most important issue to you in these two verses?

17: And Jesus answered and said unto him. Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-jona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
18 And I say unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock (Revelation) I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it???

I am just wondering if UR's see what I am talking about and for the others, what do these words give to you for light...

Just curious...........did 'lee' get yanked or did it leave of its own accord?

I don't say 'it' disrespectfully. I could not get a straight answer as to gender and I'm too lazy to keep writing 'he or she' and the biggest reason is I  really see who was on here going by the names of cog or lee as an adversarial spirit...thus the 'it'.

What a lot of crap...

Your "purpose" here is to supposedly "teach" us the "error" of our ways...

You are not here to LEARN... If you were, you would ANSWER QUESTIONS... however, you only POSE them from YOUR VIEWS, and AVOID them when they are POSED to you... in OPPOSITION to those VIEWS...

People, This is only My thinking.
New Haven and New Earth. i.e. All things, earth/all things made from atoms of God's making, man, plant, rock, air, space, and all other things you can list.

First thing is not to think of Revelation as the last book in the bible, because Cor, goes much further into the future than any book of Revelation.

If you want a comprehensive study in that book, look up J.P. Eby at Sigler Ministries.
Now as to the here and now/ after life.
The promise was that The Anointing would DO certain things, and He Has Done Those Things...

2009 years ago the father raised His Son out of death, and Finished all Death, since then all things have been in life, all made alive in Christ. There is no more sin, the only sin is the sin that you make of your own Law Making and the following of those Laws and the braking of those self-made laws. We are LIVING IN CHRIST'S THOUSAND YEAR REIGNS NOW. It started when death was destroyed 2009 years ago.

Revelation of God ( Matt. 16:18 "upon") is the New System of things, When all things come to an understanding that a higher power controls things, "They" start there own quest to understand.

God is like this to me in the physical things,  in all things there are atoms, in all things there are 2 things, sold and space, but there is an unseen third thing, energy. This energy is in everything. In every corner of the known universe and beyond. This energy is connected like a thought process in a brain. His Brain.

There is a process going on that will bring a close to the reign of Jesus "His" Christ, When all will be IN all. When all things are dragged to the understanding that God IS and God IS Love. Then We will be Home in Him and what goes on after All is, together again is HIS concern. After life? there can never be an afterlife because the use of the word says that life has to end, and life IN God never ends. What God does with His life/us, is His design.

Summery, All sin is ended at the cross, only self-reinforced-delusions i.e.  Law/sin/death.
Everyone will come to love God somehow-somewhere in "time", When time ends, there will only be God/us.

The new heavens and earth is NOW. Since life was given to all things when His Son Did It For Us whether or not we want to except that death was destroyed so long ago.
