If dying, physically, is the only way to get to the Father, why is it all human beings(it seems) dont what to die? Or at least have a great desire to prolong this life.
Why is it most human beings seek the aid of a physician to help them from dying? If one is a believer in Jesus Christ, and Jesus is the Way to being "saved," why is it that most believers dont want to die?
They prefer to continue living on this earth with all its mishaps and pit falls, sorrows and griefs, go to church every Sunday and sing songs that have them living on streets of gold with out a fear and have a great yearning for Jesus to be the king of their life and take them out of this horrible and terrible world of sin.
Still and yet they dont want to die. Have doctors become idols? Have doctors and their knowledge taken the place of God? I wonder and consider, why do believers in Jesus Christ seek physicians rather than seeking the bretheren, brothers and sisters in prayer for wholeness and all its virtures. I wonder why does the believer cling to this life so hard? Knowing that the Bible speaks of a REST
Peace and Love Through Jesus
Psa 82:6 I--I have said, `Gods ye are , And sons of the Most High--all of you,
I think it's a good question, bro. I too believe sometimes some of us love this life too much. To me, there's sort of a balance. It will be better for me "to be with the Lord" as Paul said. I wouldn't say I personally want to live forever in this life as it is. However, while I'm here, I do want to be healthy and vibrant, so I try to take care of the temple. I might say differently if the time were to come, but if this body ever broke down through aging and sickness, I don't want a lot of artificial prolonging of it. Let "nature" take its course, and let me pass to the other side.
Now, if He ushers in the next age in my lifetime and brings in "all things new" - including if I'm one that's "alive and remain" - then I'm fine with living forever. Because I would be new, different than now - changed in the twinkling of an eye. But bringing it full circle, yes, I believe we can focus so much on hanging onto this life that lose some of our vision of "eye has not seen nor ear heard, nor has entered in the heart of man, what God has in store for those who love Him".
"For me to live is Christ, for me to die is gain." - the Apostle Paul.
God bless.
Without the drive to live, life can't be really enjoyed I think.
I think these are really great questions. First, I believe the desire to live is a God given desire. I believe God wants us to want to live at least until it's time to go (if that makes sense :laughing7: ) As for physicians becoming idols and such I don't see it that way. Physicians are healers and I also believe that is a calling from God. Physician's rarely "extend life". Most of what physicians do is limit suffering. I would say 95% of what I do even in the emergency room revolves around helping those who are suffering in pain and discomfort. I also don't believe a physician can extend a life even a second longer than it's supposed to live. I believe most believers seek aid from a physician because they dont want to suffer and they have a God given desire to live. Many like myself see physicians as an extension of God's healing hands. I think believers should seek their brethren for prayer and support. But, why would it be wrong for a physician to be part of that process?
Living is important, because in God's story we have a part to play as the characters he made.
Why was it important for Frodo to carry the ring? Why was it important for Romeo to crush on Juliet? If the goal is always "And they lived happily ever after; The End"...?
Because it is the story that makes "The End" a satisfying, and worth while experience. :)
It isn't so much that we cling to life...as it is that we are living, and therefore desire thus to live. We only know of "This life", so we desire what we know. We desire the next life too, but the eyes of faith are ever veiled, where Christ has not yet shown his light in full. When we get there though..."The End", we'll live happily ever after, and the story behind will be but a satisfying laurel.

True. But why do we drive to live this life(which is dying) and enjoy it, when we read
Php 1:21 for to me to live is Christ, and to die gain.
I have come to reason that man puts much stock in this drive to live a dying life, and little in the faith of where we, if we belive, of a truth LIVE.

I think it's because people know once they die things will never be the same again. Life will be very different without sin and perhaps a little scary, also heaven is unchartered territory, people will have fears about going there. I know for one that I'm not looking forward to going to heaven, because of many reasons, but I guess the main one is that I don't belive I have accomplished my mission here on earth and going to heaven will mean an eternity in heaven without accomplishing things on earth, which means for me, heaven will be a sad place. So I guess most Christians have their reasons for wanting to live and stay here upon the earth.
Who said anything about heaven?
@TT: I think people have no fear of heaven.
But people fear hell or that there is no after life.
A think especially the last two make people kling to life.
OTOH many saints in the OT lived long lives and never attempted to end their life to get to the afterlife

If you are the type that says believers resurected again upon the earth, then I guess the same ideas, fears apply. But most Christians belive in heaven I think so from their view they are not ready to die and go there.

I fear heaven, but it's an interesting question, whether there are other Christians who also fear heaven.
I'm not terrified of the place though, because I know it's a good place where Jesus lives.

I think people do die before their time as quoted in the book of proverbs, so any medicine that is around to help people live better and longer lives is ok with me. Christians should strive to make this world a better place, not to make it worse or to become passive and say 'all is well, the future is great, but yet deny the pain of today's world.
Christians are warriors and should fight to make this world a better place regardless of what promises are in store in a future age. I am thankfull for the great advancements in technology that we have today, if the inventors simply sat back and only longed for the future age, then we would not have the blessing of tentmaker, the light bulb, heating, automobiles, the list goes on. In many ways these times we are living in are the best times in history.

Okay, when you read this "Jesus came to give us life and give it to us abundantly." Which life are we to consider? You see on this sight I have heard much about death as dead dying and then I have heard of death spiritual ( and soul sleep gets in there too) so now this life that is given more abundantly is that this earthy, natural, dying life? Or does it speak of spirit life? Life in the Spirit more abundantly? I am quite curious.
And isnt 10 far different from legions?

It reminds me of a joke I heard about a man stuck on his roof during a flood praying to God for deliverance. A boat came by, a chopper but he refused waiting for God to physically lift him from the roof. When he went to heaven he asked God why he didn't deliver him. God stated that he sent a boat and a chopper.
God uses others in physical and spiritual healing. It's the reason God made us with strengths and weaknesses. Its so we need to rely on each other for what we don't have. We are not to just need God but to need those around us. I truly believe that.
Micah I'm sure you have a very good reason to be angry with physicians. But, if you are honest you know that physicians relieve some of the suffering on earth. And I can't see how that is bad.
No, and no again. No.

To whom it may concern, I have no anger nor ill thoughts against any physican. I believe they have a place and do their job and most do it well. My only thought is that man has evolved( and I use that word with intent) in depending on the physcian first and then, should things go arwy, then one turns to THE HEALER, in hopes that the Healer will do what the man needs to be done. It is by His, The Healer's WILL that things get done. Man, because of physicans today and their wonderous works, seek the physcian first and THEN The Healer.

Now, that makes sense. I would agree with you. Many times people go to the lesser healers first and not to the source of healing. I must admit I am guilty of going to the bottle of tylenol before I go to prayer for a headache.

I'm feeling part of that. I do believe Jesus saves sinners. But, the natural consequence of sin is death....we grow ill in our sins, diseased, waste away and perish. Knowledge is certainly healing because it's the first step in any change. Without knowledge that we need Christ, that we are dead in sin...we can not seek his face. The word is the source of healing. It is our instruction book to health.

It is interesting as Ive posted some time ago that the words " save and body" avery closely related.
G4983 sōma the body (as a sound whole), used in a very wide application, literally or figuratively: - bodily, body, slave. From G4982 sōzō to save, that is, deliver or protect (literally or figuratively): - heal, preserve, save (self), do well, be (make) whole.
I feel that they are almost interchangeable, the body "is a sound whole" when saved, delivered, healed.

Not that odd because healing is done on bodies. But still interesting. Just as the linked meanings shown below.

Of course people die before their time, drug addicts etc.
Well according to some God made them take drugs so they died exactly how God planned it. We are just puppets on a string and God placed the crack pipe in his mouth. :mshock:

That wasn't directed at you Micah. Not sure why you would take offense.
