Title: Just askin...
Post by: trettep on April 08, 2009, 04:31:57 AM
If I created a website that was only related to the doctrine of Universal Salvation and no other doctrines, and used that website as a mechanism for spreading the message of Universal Salvation, would you support that?  I have thought about this for some time as I have limited skills in that regard.   Consider for example, your driving down your local interstate and you see a billboard that speaks to the Wonderful News of Universal Salvation and directs you to www.whateverthesitewouldbecalled.com and tells you about universalism - would you pay to see that billboard there?  I would love to see an explosion of that message being spread all throughout the world.

I don't like mixing the delivery of God's Message with price.  I would want the website to be free from all advertising, endorsements, offerings for money, etc...  It might have a donate button for those that want to donate to the cause.

That sound like a Good idea?

Paul

Why wouldn't it a good idea? I can't see what possibly would be bad about it.

That said I think the UR webmasters should all be part of a webring.
For those who never heard about that word: Similar minded sites, UR in this case, somewhere (on their frontpage) have a set of links to similar websites.
UR sites are bit hard to find. So if they are part of a webring, you find one and you found all part of the webring.
Even just an index site would be a good step forward I think.
Or just being the person that organised the webring would be good work spreading the UR message.

Make sure to use plenty of much used words in your metatags.
Example "Rich man was burning forever in hell"
And many other ET catch phrases. It will redirect plenty ETs to your site. Especially if you bump up your ranking on Google.

Just my 2 cents

Yeah, a webring is an interesting idea but then you have to monitor the ring to ensure your not forwarding someone on to something that is charging money for books, tapes, and all that stuff as many times this is frowned upon (I know I don't like seeing that stuff at all on a webpage where I'm researching the Word of God).  But I'm glad to hear that others would support it.  I don't have the resources yet to put something like this together but I hope to some day (God willing).

I wish there was someone who would start a TV series on the salvation of all. They have all other kinds of beliefs on there, why not UR. I am sure there are many that are qualified for this job. I guess it would be much more expensive, huh?

A few months back Martin said I was planning to make movies for YouTube (together with Craig IIRC)

Let me start with the last. Renting webspace isn't that expensive. Less that $10 a month. For that money you can run the TM forum. If looking hard possibly even less.
For a webring list and a simple blog the free webspace that you get with many internet accounts for free is likely fine too.

About selling stuff. If it's relavant I personnly like it. I also buy to support site. TM has a webshop too. Unfortunately they don't ship to my country.
Maintaining and building a webring is probably lots of work in the beginning.
But my personal opinion is that God is better served is some organisation in UR-land that with another blog.
Do not take 'another blog' as something negative!

If there ever was a charge for something it would only be to cover costs and I would only want to collect that from those that could afford it.  So what I mean by that is unlike other sites, I would never withhold religious content for lack of payment.

I very well understand your reasoning. I just try to look at it from different angles.
Say you write a paperback and pure printing costs + shipping would put the price at say $25.
Then:
a] Charge $25. -> Some can't pay that so are missing out. (you withhold material for $)
b] Pay all costs yourself -> If you don't have to money for that everyone is missing out.
c] Just don't publish at all -> Everybody is missing out.

For me personally "c" would be a big no.
As for "a" better reach only the 'wealthty' people than none at all....
Or look at TentMaker. Assume Gary got in financial problems and has the choice to close the forum or ask a $5 membership fee. Half of the users can't afford that $5. What would serve God best?
No forum. Half sized forum for cash.

Hi Whitewings, I look at it like this - what would the Apostles do?  Would they deny me their writings unless I could afford to pay and only therefore give the writings to the rich.  I believe not.  I don't believe any of the Apostles if they submitted their writings today would ever disallow someone their writings for lack of payment.

I also think they would DEMAND that those that can afford to support the cause submit what they can in that support of the cause.  I don't believe in tithes.  I believe the Apostles would surely demand all excess and all that we have be towards the service of God.

The price of hosting is super cheap, so I would most likely pay for that and in fact have one that I pay for currently that is just about IT stuff so it would be simply to add another.  I actually had a Christian site also not long ago but very different from what I'm proposing here.
