Hi there,

To say that God has stopped talking is nonsense.  The trouble with scripture is that it is written in such a way as to not make the mystical obvious.
Christians are still talking about the 2nd coming and that this world will end, etc.  Jesus Himself said that the kingdom of heaven is within, not without. God therefore is within and talks to us all the time.
Jesus was accused of saying that He is the ONLY son of God but He was telling us that we are ALL sons of God and can do the things He did and even more if we believe.
As to purifying ourselves, didn't St. Paul say that we are to work out our own salvation with fear and trembling for it is God (within us) who is working it all out.  Jesus and not even God could heal anybody unless they believed He could. Surely that is us working it all out.

If Jesus/God can raise someone from the dead, literally and spiritually, without their faith, surely they could heal without them believing.  Obviously in his earthly mnistry, he stressed faith, but there was one case where Jesus healed a man on the basis of his friends faith when they lowered him down from the roof.  Or when the centurion came to Jesus and said Jesus did not need to go to his house to heal his servant because of the authority Jesus possessed and Jesus healed the servant at that moment because of the Centurion's faith.  Jesus healed the soldiers ear without needing anyone's faith.

I don't think this is the age in which we can do greater works than Jesus did.  I think that will be in the next age.  Certainly there are miracles here and there.  But until I see someone walk through a town and heal everyone that flocks to him, I don't see that prophecy as being fulfilled yet.  We still only have the earnest of the Holy Spirit, unlike Christ who was filled with the Spirit.  That's MY opinion.

What anyone else hears from God, that can serve to draw that person closer.  I believe that what God wants me to hear, I will hear.  If I'm drawn to a particular book, or website, I feel that's how God instructs/teaches me.  I do sometimes seem to feel his presence and then I'm lifted beyond cares of this world.  I can't say what's right for someone else, only what's right for me.
