Thanks for the link FineLinen! I've begun to read it.

I love how Google transfers them online from the original book. Gives me a lot of nostalgia. I love books (although, to be frank, I've been a bit lazy reading them unless they're online, which generally ruins any nostalgic feelings because they don't usually look like real books made out of paper lol).

Honestly, I think if you go with these two premises, that 1) God loves ALL men and 2) God is ALL powerful, the logical and ONLY possible outcome is: God will save ALL men.

If you deny the conclusion you have to deny one of the two premises. It's funny that people end up writing entire books on such a simple, logical and air-tight conclusion.

Yep, I agree.

But some people don't even believe God loves ALL men, so then you have to prove that first.  Some people will just not accept it.

I think humans are so typically used to love that DOES fail and disappoint...that to believe that Gods love doesnt, just seems so far fetched and beyond our comprehension. But really, that should be the first conclusion we think of if the bible says "love never fails" and "god is love". Ive been taught my whole life how Gods love is so much greater than any human love, but this is the first time in my life that I can actually say I believe that.

I think that without UR it cannot even be reasonably argued that God is really all loving. Armenian or Calvinistic you get a god who really just doesn't care about people. An Armenian God brought people into being that He knew He wouldn't be able to save but created these people anyway knowing they would suffer on Earth AND in Hell (that or be annihilated in Hell). A Calvinistic God brings people into existence just so He can damn most and save few (all for His glory, mind you). I can honestly not call either one loving. Period.

BTW, I like this quote from the very beginning of the book:

"But as mercy and justice are supposed to be opposed one to the other, I would observe; there is no mercy but what is agreeable to justice ; neither is there any justice but what is agreeable to mercy: hence, God, by the Prophet, asked man, Micah vi, 8, " And what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy," &c. Now, I suppose every person will acknowledge this Scripture is consistent; but if the above notion of mercy and justice were true, how could it be consistent, if they were opposed one to the other? The man who loved Justice, must hate mercy, and the man who loved mercy, must hate justice."

Man, as I read this book I see (spiritual) genius dripping from every page. It's beautiful! If it's not God inspired, I don't know what is!

Amazing old writings, Finelinen.  I was just wondering yesterday what it would be like to have millions of believers all together with 'no time' in that eternal realm.   I think we get a taste of that by reading the words left behind by the great cloud of witnesses who have blazed the trail before us.   It is all so glorious to meditate on.

Bless you -
Anne

Hey Tim, Good premises. The two that work best for me are........

God wants something concerning the salvation of all people.

God always gets what He wants.

These two premises are conversation stoppers. A Calvanist has to slap Scripture in the face to say God doesn't want every person saved and to come to the knowledge of the Truth and an Armenianist must do the same to Scripture to say God will not get what He wants.
