As I always suspected and knew but I don't remember a Bible verse that stated it this plainly.
But, I found this one tonight:
"But it is the spirit in a person, the breath of the Almighty, that gives them understanding." Job 32:8
Any other verses that clearly state this?
I think there are implications in this, for those of us who believe in UR. It is certainly not a tradition of our times, or current theological thinking. I know I saw on the Tent that someone said something like:
Hell is taught, but UR comes from the Spirit.
I began searching and came up with these, too:
If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. James 1:5
By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established; Proverbs 24:3
I think it is much easier to embrace UR if one depends on the Spirit and looks to God, predominantly, and not to man or mankind's establishments. I suppose that is fairly obvious to many, besides myself.

Wisdom from experience. Christ has all things working together for good. ALL things means ALL things. Do not always grasp immediately, but do at the appointed time, that is when He reveals to us.

You've reminded me Dandelion, of how when I first became a believer and the first untrue spirit of a thing I was struggling with. It seemed like the spirit of the Lord was this wonderful outward flowing of love.. i could feel His love for people flowing right through me! And i could see his love also flowing through others. Yet I was picking up on another 'spirit' or idea... that as believers we should toward nonbelievers (not yet believers!) be a bit standoffish with a sort of almost accusing demeanor so they would know they were sinners and needed Jesus (and to repent). It was kind of subtle.. a sort of blending of the two..
But I thought this was at odds with what I felt from the Lord. So I rejected it. But now I can see that as an idea, it was seeking to gain entry into me.. that I would receive it
and conform..

Knowledge becomes stagnant waters without the movement of understanding
I personally have many struggles with hearing God's voice. Over the years, it has improved immensely, but I still have far to go.
I grew up in an ugly mess of lies, created often just for me, to be kept in a place where I would allow abusive people to take advantage of me. These were people who were supposed to love me, but they could not.
So, I learned to embrace the lies, because I loved my family and I wanted to be obedient and not disappoint them.
But, I also know that God raised me. There is no other explanation of how I could have turned out the way I did, under the circumstances. One day, when I was upset due to people taking advantage of me, a few years ago, I cried out to God, and He told me, you are not the way you are because of them....I raised you. I was actually shocked. That thought was definitely not my own. I knew it had to be God speaking to me. It was an important step in changing the way I perceived myself.
Later, I found this in Psalm 27.
Psalm 27
7Hear my voice when I call, Lord;
be merciful to me and answer me.
8 My heart says of you, "Seek his face!"
Your face, Lord, I will seek.
9 Do not hide your face from me,
do not turn your servant away in anger;
you have been my helper.
Do not reject me or forsake me,
God my Savior.
10 Though my father and mother forsake me,
the Lord will receive me.
11 Teach me your way, Lord;
lead me in a straight path
because of my oppressors.
12 Do not turn me over to the desire of my foes,
for false witnesses rise up against me,

So, I very much appreciate the importance of listening and hearing God, though I struggle with it still.
