Title: What do you think of Christian Dominionism?
Post by: Universalist Catholic on October 01, 2010, 12:09:21 AM
I have just heard of it, where a group of hardcore Christian Fundamentalists are trying to create a government based on the Mosaic Law.  Basically they want to imprison and kill anyone who breaks any of the laws.  It has origins with Rushdooney, Gary North, Jerry Falwell, and Pat Robertson.  Plus this seems to be quite a growing view amongst the Republican Party.  I cant say Im a big fan of the Democratic Party, but the Republican party just makes me sick.  Now I fully support freedom of Religion to all Religions, including Christianity, but I personally think Jesus would be appalled at the way they have made a mockery of his words.

"Government based on the mosaic law"

...interesting, well in that case, it isn't Christian Dominionism at all, but is a Mosaic Theocracy, for Gentiles who have been Judaized.

Christian Dominionism is in essence, the absolute complete opposite of Christ's intent.  I'm writing an article on this, and Christ's intent is to bring about a kingdom of Love, not Law.

I can already tell you, that Jesus is appalled already by this idea - as it is pharisaic at its core.

:cloud9: I find this hard to believe, and even harder to believe that it's in any danger of ever being passed.  :laughing7:  :dontknow:

There are all sorts of strange ideas floating around out there, fringe elements in many places and groups.  Some pieces of different folks' theological beliefs may fit in various types of idealogical groups.

I'm personally an Independent, but I believe there are good and bad in both parties.  Don't know that there is necessarily more bad in the Republican Party than in the Democrat Party - in fact, I doubt it.  At least the Republican Party doesn't push the abortion and active homosexual lifestyle as part of their political agenda.  Obviously though, both parties have their problems, and politics is not the answer anyway.   :2c:  Jesus is

according to wiki;  Dominion Theology is a grouping of theological systems with the common belief that society should be governed exclusively by the law of God as codified in the Bible, to the exclusion of secular law. The two main streams of Dominion Theology are Christian Reconstructionism and Kingdom now theology. Though these two differ greatly in their general theological orientation (the first is strongly Reformed and Neo-Calvinistic, the second is Charismatic), they share a postmillenial vision in which the kingdom of God will be established on Earth through political and (in some cases) even military means.
All strains of Dominion Theology are small minorities, and are rejected by most mainstream Christian establishments as radical.

Gal 1:8  but even if we or a messenger out of heaven may proclaim good news to you different from what we did proclaim to you--anathema let him be!
Gal 1:9  as we have said before, and now say again, If any one to you may proclaim good news different from what ye did receive--anathema let him be!

Some things have to be set up before the antichrist tries to sit on the throne as Christ.
2 Thess 2;1-4 " But we request you, brethren, in behalf of the Presence of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, that you not be quickly tossed from your mind nor be put in alarm, either by discourse or by letter as by us, as that the day of the Lord has set in; that no one may cheat you in any one respect. Because that day WILL NOT SET IN except the revolt come first and there be revealed the man of lawlessness, the son of destruction, the one who opposes and exalts himself on high against every one called God, or an object of worship;  SO THAT HE SHALL TAKE HIS SEAT WITHIN THE SANCTUARY OF GOD SHOWING HIMSELF FORTH THAT HE IS GOD."

To enter that sanctuary would seem to mean the need for the Mosaic law to be in full swing.

Isn't the mosaic law Gods law? He gave it to Moses? so why are you so appalled?

I;m not sure if this law you speak of is related, but heres something I found in Daniel

Daniel 11:14

And in those times there shall many stand up against the king of the south: also the robbers of thy people shall exalt themselves to establish the vision; but they shall fall.

Notice here that Daniel says the robbers of thy people, this could be robbers of belivers in God, or robbers of the Israelites i.e daniels people, that these robbers are interested in the scriptures and seek to fullfill the vision that which is given to Daniel by their own hand, so self arrogant people who wish to establish Daniels vision by their own hand. I wonder if these are Christians, but to be safe I think it's better to wait until its complete, othewise it is just false accusations.

"...SO THAT HE SHALL TAKE HIS SEAT WITHIN THE SANCTUARY OF GOD SHOWING HIMSELF FORTH THAT HE IS GOD."

No you not that you are the temple of the Holy Spirit.....
Being built up into a habitation of God in the Spirit....

Perhaps this anti (latin- vicar "in place of" greek-anti) seeks to set himself on the throne of the tabernacle made of living stones
Taking the place of Jesus in the hearts of those who receive him and his mark

Instead of receiving the "mark" of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus and the "seal" of the Holy Spirit they receive a worldly substitute- allowing them to remain in the world system instead of "coming out"- outside 'the camp"- to suffer reproach with Him.

Christian Dominionism has been around a long time.

IMO, It is similar to the third of the temptations of the mount, "All this is mine to give you if you will just bow down and worship me". In order to circumvent the cross and walk in the desire of immature disciples (Peter saw his hopes of a triumphal entry and the taking of the kingdom from the Romans crash to the earth when Jesus said, "the son of man must suffer, be rejected and killed.... "Get behind me Satan for your interests are not the interests of God but the interests of men"). All those who overcome in the daily sharing of the cross are "reigning in life" with Christ, receiving the "crown of life" reserved for all those who "suffer with Him that we may also reign with Him". So also in the future, those who "reign in life" through thru the crucified life will "inherit all things" with Him.

IMO CD is a kind of extension of the faith/prosperity movement- seeking to take into the natural things that can only be received in the spirit.

Quote"Government based on the mosaic law"

Jesus accused the Pharisees of sitting in Moses' seat.   So, do what they say, not what they do, he said--because they were fakes.

QuoteTaking the place of Jesus in the hearts of those who receive him and his mark

Yes--bow down and worship me.

Quotethey share a postmillenial vision in which the kingdom of God will be established on Earth through political and (in some cases) even military means.

They have decided they are God.  If you don't agree with them, tough luck.

They find charismatic men to push their agenda--Oprah called him 'the One'--so that people will worship them and follow them, instead of Jesus.

'charisma' from Greek charis, meaning grace--the angel of light.

Hi;
Some pretty good observations folks.
Interesting that Christ says that some have prophesied in His name, cast out demons in His name but He NEVER knew them. Seems to be that some of the modern evangelists are trying to demonstrate their power and claim to know Christ.
