Title: Understand/Trust
Post by: jabcat on February 07, 2015, 08:42:49 PM
I'm one to struggle with wanting to "understand", "make sense of things" - often without much apparent success.

I heard something like this once, and while praying for understanding last night it came back to me.  What do you think about this?  Does it help anyone else besides me?

"When you don't understand God's ways, trust His heart."

It is a fundamental statement of faith that God is love, and that all He does flows out of and back into love- even when we cant see it in the events occurring around us, or in those of His mysteries and paradoxes we dont yet understand.

Immensely helpful :o)

Jesus understood his Father.
I understand that Jesus loves his Father.
I have faith that Jesus Loves his Father.
The faith I have that Jesus loves the Father.
This faith sustains me and helps me to trust.

This is hard to answer because often it's not so clear 'you' finally understand or think/assume you understand.
Imo the understanding doesn't have to come during prayer but just as well later at an unexpected time. And when it comes you have to be open to things. God may give you understanding but you can reject it as a weird thought because your doctrine clearly teaches it's false.
So, I think the understanding God gives is often swept aside because true understanding often doesn't align with doctrinal misunderstanding.

true..ww..but still His heart of love  can be counted on,I believe.  Jesus told His disciples..'I have many things yet to speak to you..but

at present ye can not bear them."  Love does not bind up heavy loads impossible to bear.sinful men,do..look at Jesus..who had to have

help to carry His cross..because of the extreme beating/lashing..God lifts His little finger..that our yoke be light

Now,while we are deceived in thought

of something....God may hate the lie we mistakenly believe..but not the person...in fact He has assured us He will destroy all the lies

...so that we may all worship Him in spirit and truth...

Forgive them,Father, they know not what they do......pretty much says it all,to me. GOD IS LOVE..IS TRUTH...

If God instantly gave us all truth there would be no process of wisdom and understanding, and we would need each other even less than we already do, which weakens the body.

The thing that draws us to discussion is the inherent knowledge that we gain by it- even in the form of dispute- but even more so when we are edifying one another, sharing agreement or disagreement in a spirit of fellowship.

14 As a result, we are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming; but speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ, from whom the whole body, being fitted and held together by what every joint supplies, according to the proper working of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself in love.

But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, unwavering, without hypocrisy. And the seed whose fruit is righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.

Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may know the things freely given to us by God, which things we also speak, not in words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Spirit, combining spiritual thoughts with spiritual words.

I think James believes likewise so I assume that wasn't what his question (doubts?) is about.

QuoteJesus told His disciples..'I have many things yet to speak to you..but at present ye can not bear them."
When the time is "at present" God give no insight.
But when the time is right the insight can be rejected. (as Bible gives many example of)

QuoteLove does not bind up heavy loads impossible to bear.sinful men,do..
That's exactly what I wrote.
Jesus' truth (light burden) was widely rejected by the Jews because it often conflicted with their doctrine. (heavy burden).

I totally agree with your post ww......about men's doctrines being heavy loads..you said it very well.[I thought I was giving a double

  witness to what you said?]

re;what do you think about this, does it help anyone else but me=love seeks not it's own advantage=His heart of love can be counted

on.   For instance.......I don't believe anyone can accept the revealed doctrine of the salvation of all...without a real love for their

fellowman...it is like He goes ahead[leads] to prepare us a place[in our heart/where we can accept these things]

I thought I was agreeing with you and James[trust His heart]...and I also agree with EW!!!!

I could have written it better,no doubt! and it's supposed to be my original language!lol!

but still his heart of love can be counted on=agreement with James..not disagreement with you.  :girlheart:

When I see something that hurts me, or I struggle coming to terms with, I personally have to trust that God is good, His purposes are good, He is Love, and think that I just don't understand it - YET, that I must trust His heart that He is all those things I just listed.  It helps ME with some of the conflicts in life.   :2c:

There are two sides to the same coin in my life.
One side his hard hearted and not caring and being unconcerned.
The other side is broken hearted ness at the lack of my ability
and the peace that comes from surrender.

Seems I misunderstood the OP. I understood it as being about understanding verses.
Seems we have the same things we don't understand. God's plan always works out for the better. I just don't understand how allowing certain evil can fit/is needed for that plan....  :dunno2:

I like the comment... it kinda reminds me of 'the steps to maturity are necessarily immature'

Thanks for sharing.

Yes, trust His heart. His heart is a heart of love. I sure would like to know more about trusting His heart, since I never heard it put that way.

His heart = His Spirit = unconditional love = salvation of all.

I find His heart in this verse
2Pe 3:9  The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some count slackness; but is longsuffering to you-ward, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
