Why did Jesus pray all night before selecting disciples?
What is prayer, how do YOU pray?
And
Lk 6:27-37 what's the point?
Rich will be poor, how, why?
Full will be hungry, how, why?
Lend w/o expecting return, offer your other cheek, give them your coat as well, to what end?
Yeah I know so your reward may be full. However, is this anticipating the coming dispersion, Heaven or both?

Prayer is many things, to me.
It is sending your thoughts to God...to praise, to thank, to ask, to seek answers, to communicate to the one we love the most, and who loves us best.
Prayer alligns our thoughts to God's....we learn of His will for us, through prayer, among other ways...but, I believe prayer is a very important one.
Prayer keeps us focused on God.....we walk with Him, daily, through reading the Bible, making godly choices, loving our neighbors, talking and listening to Him, through prayer. We give Him praise, which changes our outlook on life.
We pray alone and with others. When 2 or more are gathered, He is in our midst. He tells us that He hears our prayers; that when we don't know what to pray, the Holy Spirit cries out, on our behalf. He tells us that when we pray, we should call Him, Abba, meaning Daddy or Papa.
I used to say this to my children, and I will say it now, Prayer is the most powerful force that we have. It connects us to our Daddy....our Almighty, Infinite, All-Knowing, All-Loving, God. And, He can do anything.
What a gift prayer is!
Oh, how do I pray? I pray continually, throughout the day. I pray to God, as I would talk to Him, most of the time. Sometimes I do say an Our Father. In Church, I say prayers I have learned, in unity with others, or alone. I pray all the things I mentioned above. Sometimes, I do not give God enough praise, though, I do tell Him, many times a day, " I know you can do anything." I pray through song, a lot. Christian music is a big part of my life, now. It was not always that way. I pray for myself; for people I love; for others that I hear need prayers; for people I hear of on the news, for global issues, that come past my way; for people I pass in the street; for some I meet for only a few minutes; for any thing that is put on my heart to ask for help for. I pray for strength; for courage; for more faith and trust; for God's blessings, for myself and others; in a nutshell, whatever needs and thoughts, come across my path. God is my strength; my friend; the one who loves me best, and the one whom I love the most; He is my joy and my song. He is whom I run to when I am sad; upset; worn and alone; grateful; excited; in awe....and when I need a miracle, which is frequently.
The rich will be poor, because, they might have material things, but not necessarily spiritual things......
Same with the full being hungry....eating steak does not ensure spiritual fulfillment.
Let go of our material life; do not expect anything in return; allow God to fight our battles; be generous, as our Heavenly Father is generous.
Surrender our lives to a God, who will give us what we need. Learn to live in the Spirit, and not in the flesh. Free ourselves of this world, so we can be true disciples of His. Depend on God, not on people. Love them, be kind to them....but depend on God.
I think it is about each one of us, finding God on this journey of life.

I think prayer is communion with the One we love. Enjoying that union is the doorway to successfully petitioning the Lord(imo) because we pray with His heart, mind and wisdom. Intercession for others from being moved by compassion and praying for His purposes to be fulfilled- so many aspects to being in the Spirit and they all begin with the fellowship of love.
I also love that there is more power in agreement, "Whenever two or more of you agree as touching anything in my name it will be done for you" because again, this shows that love and fellowship is at the core of prayer, "Whenever two or more are gathered together in my name there I am in the midst of you."
I talk to God, to Jesus, like He's my friend. :dsunny:
I've been thinking. Since all are saved through Jesus, then the NT must be about relationship and the Church ought to be teaching how to relate with and tap into the power of God that's available to us.
Anyway, today I was wondering if prayer isn't contemplative thinking so that even if we don't recognise His hand in it, when we put our mind to planning a task and it turns out well, that's the hand of God on our lives. Just a hint of what could be if we really connected.
IF there is anything to that then Jesus all nighters would have been similar to a college student cramming for finals, except He was really connecting and the results have eternal consequences.
I have never been comfortable with the product that my evangelical church was trying to get me to sell so I couldn't. Now I have fully accepted UR and am still thinking there's a message here that needs to be shared. Guess that's part of, "Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have."
becoming reconciled IS ALL about relationship and coming to know each other intimately..... :2c: a real help with dealing
with difficulties ...counsel/advice from Him...guidance as we hear His instruction. If you become aware of someone struggling
spiritually.....and you can comfort them..help them...whether it be guidance etc in His word...by all means speak up.
He has often put the thought in my mind to do a particular thing...and I did it...and only afterward realized what He had done
through me. All our thoughts originate from 2 sources....the wicked one or Him. we can liken the wicked one's imput as a crown of
thorns piercing our mind with unwanted unbidden negative thought input[deception/anger/jealousy/offense/unforgiveness/selfishness
etc. In glory we shall be like Joshua...with a clean turban on our heads.....nothing but continually HOLY MINDS/THOUGHT. no longer
a warring in the mind to subject any negative thoughts to Christ[satans/serpent] head/mind totally crushed beneath our feet]......
what PEACE WE SHALL HAVE...WHAT JOY. the unclean beasts on the temple wall...signified unclean/negative thoughts in our mind.
what we oft term'gettin in the flesh" is actually the wicked one 'be-getting seed" in our minds/tares....and if we don't reject these
things......they will bring forth rootings in our hearts of sin/wickedness and corruption of our vessel/His temple. :2c:
ps even thoughts and a desire that may appear negative[such as Samson's desire for a certain wife,of which his parents saw as very
negative] may be of God's will for His specific purpose. God is in control....the sooner we accept that...the better off we are..imo

prayer, maintaining that connection.. which I think was symbolized by our Lord's "last supper" saying the bread (daily, His Word) and the (new) wine (of His Spirit) is what supports and nourishes us.. ("abide in"!) Jesus often came away form the crowds to devote Himself to prayer - unbroken, nondistracted communion with His Father, who was "always with Him".. And in the garden, knowing the intense flogging and the crucifixion which was ahead of Him and carrying the weight of all error/sin of all the world upon Himself, He sweat great drops of blood, so intense was the pressure upon Him..
smh...sweat of your brow...great drops of blood. somethings up with this topic...just yesterday the Holy spirit brought this to
