I was reading about two weeks ago and it was like the Lord just shook me and said "SEE!"
I was reading in Joshua 1:2 Bill Britton expounded some on this way back in the early 80's. I dont remember that he brought out more than a waking shout.... "This Jordan."
Jos 1:2 `Moses my servant is dead, and now, rise, pass over this Jordan, thou, and all this people, unto the land which I am giving to them, to the sons of Israel.
Most times when in the Book it speaks of Jordan, it speaks of this "side" of Jordan, but Gen. 32:10 Deut.3:27; 31:2, Josh. 1:2,11 and Josh. 4:22 it speaks of "this" Jordan.
I am asking has anyone read this and studied this, has the Lord revealed to you anything on "this Jordan." I know that it has a great spiritual meaning for us today. Just asking, I know our Jordan is death.

I think that river is like the River Styx from Greek mythology. It seperates land of the living from land of the dead (Hades).

In fact, the "Great Gulf" was the world's largest rift depression east of Jerusalem in which the River Jordan flowed into the Dead Sea.

However, after the forty years wandering in the wilderness was over (and when they crossed the River Jordan in the Land of Promise), there was a massive circumcision ritual. This was just before their first Passover in the Holy Land. God called it a "rolling away of the reproach of Egypt" (Joshua 5:9). That's when all the children came back into a covenant relationship with God.

After the Israelites crossed the Jordan, we see the second circumcision happen on the other side [circumcision of the heart].
We also see that we Christians can 'cross the Jordan' in this life, as was discussed in the other thread about sin.

There is so much rich symbolism involved in the Israelite crossing of the Jordan.
They are crossing at the time of the harvest and flood stage of the river.
They are to follow behind the ark.
The ark is carried on the shoulders of the priests.
The priests walk into water first, getting their feet wet, and the water recedes.
The priests remain standing at the boundary [middle of the river] as all cross over [holding the waters of death back].
God is showing them the way.
Moses [the law] is not allowed to cross over. So they are crossing over by Grace, not by the Law.
14 So when the people broke camp to cross the Jordan, the priests carrying the ark of the covenant went ahead of them. 15 Now the Jordan is at flood stage all during harvest. Yet as soon as the priests who carried the ark reached the Jordan and their feet touched the water's edge, 16 the water from upstream stopped flowing. It piled up in a heap a great distance away, at a town called Adam in the vicinity of Zarethan, while the water flowing down to the Sea of the Arabah (the Salt Sea ) was completely cut off. So the people crossed over opposite Jericho. 17 The priests who carried the ark of the covenant of the LORD stood firm on dry ground in the middle of the Jordan, while all Israel passed by until the whole nation had completed the crossing on dry ground.

We are about 2,000 years since God's ark Jesus descended into death, leaving a witness in hades, resurrecting and asending to send forth Himself into us to bring about our crossing over.
When did that 2000 year count start?
Conception? Birth? Start of ministry? Resurrection? Ascending to heaven?

to me symbolically the promised Land / good ground is the Body of Christ :icon_flower:

wow! Jesus takes us beyond judgment, beyond death, crossing the river on dry ground, the waters of death heaped up and cut off.

The dove didn't return to Noah because it found dry land. The waters of death had receded.
And, here, also, the dove did not return to the Father.
