The silver cord keeps one alive, when it is cut, removed, or taken...death is the outcome, the silver cord, cannot be the Holy Spirit....The Spirit cannot die.
Ecc 12:6
(ASV) before the silver cord is loosed, or the golden bowl is broken, or the pitcher is broken at the fountain, or the wheel broken at the cistern,
(CLV) Remember Him, while the silver cable is not yet pulled away, And the golden bowl is splintered, And the jar is broken at the fount, And the rolling wheel is splintered at the cistern,
(KJV) Or ever the silver cord be loosed, or the golden bowl be broken, or the pitcher be broken at the fountain, or the wheel broken at the cistern.
(Rotherham) Or ever the silver cord be loosed, or the golden bowl be broken,—or the bucket by the fountain be shivered, or the wheel at the well be broken;
(YLT) While that the silver cord is not removed, And the golden bowl broken, And the pitcher broken by the fountain, And the wheel broken at the well.
Hi Micah,
The way I understand this is, the silver cord is the spirit or breath in man not the Holy Spirit.
Doesn't every part of man have to die?
CHB
Yes. I think so. I thought I had read somewhere on this forum that the silver cord was the Holy Spirit. I searched for it but could not find the post. I supposed I am still searching, hoping the poster will respond.
Like I said, I have seen the silver cord. I have left my body twice. Both times I was connected to my body by a cord of light. It looked like an umbilical cord. For what it's worth. :2c:
The silver cord wasn't 'me,' it wasn't my body--it connected me to my body.
Silver = Redemption

Thanks...trying to understand :bigGrin:
silver cord is life. golden bowl is the body. If you cut the silver cord or break the golden bowl, you are dead. [my body broken for you.] He likens the silver cord to the pully at a well. The body is the bucket/pitcher which is lowered into the well to collect water by the pulley which is the silver cord. If the pitcher or the pulley is broken, you are dead--no longer able to collect life through the body.
The silver cord connects us to our body like an umbilical cord. But I will say this, I was outside my body and alive.
:cloud9: Exactly.....the "umbilical cord" is what connects the spirit of us to the SOUL, IN the dirt suit. The soul must be brought out from under the flesh to come into the Spirit, a NEW BIRTH, else it is as one stillborn.
The cord is the connection between mother and child, what keeps them connected until it is CUT, just like the HEART must be circumcized. The cord is as Jacob, the heel catcher, binding us to the soulish realm.
It is the spirit of man that leaves to return to the One who sent it, but soul stays trapped in whatever it did not overcome while still in the body.
When the cord is cut (the way it should and eventually will be, IMO) the soul will be able to ascend in union WITH the spirit, no longer split but whole, one new man (and He called THEIR name Adam = plural, both of them) totally IN CHRIST. My :2c:
Just saw this, Cardinal. :icon_king:
That last paragraph--could you spend a little more time explaining that?
Moly compare
Genesis 5:2 - H120 -> mankind
Genesis 5:3 - H121 -> a man
The strange thing is that I see no difference between the Hebrew and transliteration of that Hebrew when I compare H120/H121
My lexicon even notes H120=H121
Somehow (according to some articles I've read in the past) the translation/disctinction between Adam the person and Adam the mankind is very problematic.
Maybe Ezra messed up. (and there are no originals left to check)
:cloud9: Going to leave in a few minutes, but will get to it later in the day.....

Micah a thing you might like is that one of the meanings of Eve is breath.
All the Adam verses are problematic for me. (KJV translates all the red words as Adam)
The defenitions of the red and blue overlap so much lots of uncertainty remains.
Looking at the defenitions only, I would say red=mankind and blue=a male person.
But that doesn't make much sense...
Take Gen 4:1 -> Whole mankind slept with Eve. Busy woman.... Plus women are part of mankind too. We can be sure that's not what the verse intends to say. Then she gives birth to 1 son.
The same for Gen 2:23. Switching from mankind to man makes no sense to me.
:sigh:
Are you saying that this Hebrew symbol is used twice?

Same as
2Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam , in the day when they were created.
Is it the same symbol used every time Adam is mentioned in Genesis?
I see no difference in them TT.
But then (as I wrote before) the present Hebrew letter are not in the originals. The originals used phoenician/proto Hebrew script that looks like the 2 words in my avatar.
It was Ezra who introduced the modern square script (without the accents which are recently added)
So maybe the version of Genesis Moses wrotes uses different words. Unfortunately I don't have those copies to compare.

:cloud9: How about; one is the singular creation man Adam, and the other is the corporate many-membered body of Adam, ie. mankind?
That's exactly what the lexicons do Cardinal. I showed that with a few examples in this thread. But it solves nothing; it adds more confusion.
If words are exactly teh same in Hebrew what are the rules to translate them differently?

Hi WW , just wondering here if the differnce in the Adam son of God
and the Adam / mankind formed out of the dust of the ground are one the same ?
what if God has them seperate , but in the same being spirit /soul ?
this being the seperation spirit /soul , unless you see them as the same also ?
just wondering here on this part
that would be why Gen 1 and Gen 2 are different in descriptions of make ups?
GOD formed , made and fashioned ? using the KJV and strongs and the lexicons , the words seem to hold some differences :HeartThrob:

Isn't "context" a synonym for "insert your favorite doctrine here" ?
:cloud9: Not in my book, because He adds layers of understanding just like you build a rock wall, and they all witness each other. He is basically telling the same "story" a thousand different "ways" thru every jot and tittle in there. So if you find one thing that reflects the same principles already shown, it's a keeper. Isn't "context" a synonym for "insert your favorite doctrine here" ?
Never thought about it that way, but I would have to say yes, at least in the many christian sects, and denominations that have been invented.
I think it's more likely that "favourite doctrine here" is presented when out of context.
The eternal hell doctrine teachings of Jesus is a good example.
Of course the Bible can't be understood without context. Even a chapter is context. I agree with Cardinal that the context (patterns) form a witness.
But context also gets abused. If a verse isn't understood or disagrees with ones doctrine context and exegesis comes into play. With the right amount of smokescreens anything can be proven.
Verses should prove a doctines. Not the other way around.
