That's exactly what the lexicons do Cardinal. I showed that with a few examples in this thread. But it solves nothing; it adds more confusion.
If words are exactly teh same in Hebrew what are the rules to translate them differently?

Isn't "context" a synonym for "insert your favorite doctrine here" ?

Never thought about it that way, but I would have to say yes, at least in the many christian sects, and denominations that have been invented.

I think it's more likely that "favourite doctrine here" is presented when out of context.

The eternal hell doctrine teachings of Jesus is a good example.

Of course the Bible can't be understood without context. Even a chapter is context. I agree with Cardinal that the context (patterns) form a witness.
But context also gets abused. If a verse isn't understood or disagrees with ones doctrine context and exegesis comes into play. With the right amount of smokescreens anything can be proven.
Verses should prove a doctines. Not the other way around.
