I have just finished reading Eckhart Tolles' book 'The Power of Now'.
And can i first say that it is not one of these, get rich quick, think positive books!
It is basically saying that you cannot gain joy from outside things, money, possessions, drugs, etc, only through knowing that God is within you as Jesus said. He also quotes Jesus a lot and makes Christs' sayings come alive. According to him, the majority of people are unconscious, that is they listen to the egoic mind (the god of this eon) with its threatening messages.
People who are attuned to God are called conscious. There is no past or future, only Now where God is. Jesus (he quotes) said don't worry for tomorrow, etc. And also to surrender to what is, which reminds me of Christ saying to God, Your will be done, not mine! He doesn't ever say that you can have this or that but to surrender to what is.
I know when a book has truth in that it is in agreement with Jesus. But often i don't understand what Jesus really meant as it was never explained properly in a metaphysical way.
One part stated that when a person dies and they see the light (as people have reported) they are afraid to go into it or prefer their earthly existence too much and they become unconscious and be reborn again (i assume by this he believes in reincarnation). But then it got me thinking, is that what the 2nd death means. For those who are ready (the chosen) the 2nd death doesn't hurt them and those who aren't (those who are not chosen) have to go through the 2nd death and be reborn again?
I'm not saying that he is right about this but it is a thought and sort of makes sense.

In Hebrews 9: 27 we read "it is appointed
to men ONCE to die but after this the judgement"
If Eckhart Tolles does believe in reincarnation it would be difficult for him to get around being appointed once to die because reincarnation would involve dying more than once, and being born of water more than once, there isn't anywhere in scripture that I can find anything that supports being born of water more than one time.
I used to work with a man who drove truck out of the same trucking yard that I did, he belonged to a spiritualist church denomination, United Christian Spiritualist Church I think was the name of it, they believe in mediums, invoking spirits, communicating with spirits, fortune telling and reincarnation, all of that in one church, he was one of the few people I was aquainted with who believed in reincarnation, while he knew I did not trust it to be true we got along just fine when we had to work together.
The subject about NOW that Eckhart Tolles wrote, that sounds interesting,
I think Jesus during his time teaching the disciples exhorted them not to dwell on the past or cast their sights into the future, rather be of purpose in the day we are in,
I think he taught this because many folks feel sorrow and guilt when dwelling on the past and feel anxious and impatient when projecting into the future, while the day that counts is now the day we are in.

:cloud9: My :2c:. Reincarnation is a doctrine of devils. I know, because I was used to cast that particular devil out of many people. It does not go willingly, nor happily. I think sometimes this is what is missing from a lot of mainstream Christianity, that they get into error so easily. Seeing the spirit behind the idol makes SO much more of an impression on you than words on a page. :mshock: I thank God to this day He let me see and experience these things, as I guarantee you they are forever burned into my memory, and are a constant reminder that by the grace of God, I NEVER want to "go there." Sorta God's version of "show and tell".
Anyway, scripturally, the problem with reincarnation is that it makes the sacrifice of the Son of God of none effect, because if we could somehow work it out ourselves thru multiple lives, then what did we need Him for? Jesus said it best when He said, "Why callest thou me good, there is none good but the Father?" We cannot be "good enough", no matter how many so-called lives we live, to earn admittance to the Father. Blessings to you........

Haven't replied to my post sooner as i have been installing new internet server!
Anyway as i was saying.
Eckhart Tolle has made the bible come alive for the first time in my life in a real life changing way.
The sayings of Christ have come alive, such as 'Lord Lord, didn't we cast out demons in Your Name. Christ will say, Go away. I believe it's because whilst people say that they worship Christ, what does it realy mean in essence. We live by the Christ mind not just talk about Christ. The Christ mind is living in the Now where God lives and as Christ tells us to become like little children. Children live for the moment, they don't make plans or scheme things. As Christ said about the lillies in the field. They just 'are'!
Eckhart also refers to accepting the now, whatever comes up in life, as Christ said, 'turn the other cheek'.
Also i believe that the devil is the egoic or adamic mind, that thinks and refuses to live in the now, that plans and schemes and tries to fill the empty void with 'things'.
The egoic mind i believe came upon Christ, otherwise how could He have been tempted like us. The 'devil' offered Christ fame, power, possessions, etc. But Christ lived where God lived so He didn't need those things anymore.
But the real thing is that since i have been trying to be more conscious, i have had a peace that passes all understanding. I haven't been so tired and have actually enjoyed living. I have had the fruits of the Spirit. It has been wonderful.
I don't know what i believe about reincarnation. But itsn't it interesting that Revelation mentions the 2nd death. Maybe that is when you are reincarnated. Those in the 1st death don't have to be reborn again.
We still need Christ as He came to teach us these truths.
