A Hungering and Thirsting for Righteousness
IMO, Staying close to God and being led by his Spirit is of utmost importance in living in the truth and light. We must deny the flesh (self-will), staying clean of pornography, lust and other sexual immorality, dishonesty, revenge, substance abuse, slander, heresy, pursuit of material goods and self gratification - and anything that pulls you away from God. When we deny our flesh and keep our minds on Jesus the Christ, the scriptures, God's precepts, God's love, and God's kingdom, remaining humble and loving to others, and remaining faithful even in the face of persecution, we live in truth and light. That, my friends, is the definition of an overcomer, who will someday be blest beyond the human imagination.
