Title: Similarities of the Holy Spirit and conscience?
Post by: SQ on October 24, 2009, 11:37:01 PM
I see such similarities between the Holy Spirit and our conscience, yet  they are not the same. (are they?) :dontknow:
After Jesus died on the cross and rose again he said he would send us a helper/comforter At pentecost the Holy Spirit resides in us, before pentecost the Holy Spirit was with men/women but resided outside of men.
Seems like the conscience convicts and also the Holy Spirit what am I missing if anything?

  Hi SQ ,
There is alot written about our conscience bearing witness with the Holy Spirit   good observation

Rom 9:1 I say the truth in Christ, I lie not, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Ghost,

Paul speaks of this often Strong's G4893  syneidēsis

keeping a clean /good conscience 1) the consciousness of anything

2) the soul as distinguishing between what is morally good and bad, prompting to do the former and shun the latter, commending one, condemning the other

a) the conscience

its sort of like an awareness  within us    towards what is good and what is not

Hi rosered I agree with all your post.. our conscience bearing witness with the Holy Spirit makes perfect sense.
Thank you for bringing up Romans 9: 11, I have read  before but it didn't sink in at that time. :HeartThrob:

:HeartThrob:

I noted Paul speaking often abot our conscience / awarness   possibly
of the Lord and His Truth ..

seems as we grow in Truth and Grace / Jesus Christ
we do seem to be more aware /awakened to  this type /kind of knowledge /Light /clarity

  God love yas  rose  :HeartThrob:

That's a good question. The way I look at it, we're all made in the image of God. So is it too far fetched that the human conscience is in the image of the Holy Spirit? But the HS convicts me on a higher level than my own conscience. One of the biggest of those is when I get a big head over something I pulled off all by myself, and I feel that loving imposing figure standing behind me saying "Ahem!". Then it's "oops, thank you Lord". I feel a lot better knowing I have a God who guides me, than the idea of having to rely on my own abilities. So that's where my conscience and The Holy Spirit become distinct. I don't believe the HS is there just to makes feel guilty because we committed some minor offence or encourage us to do a good deed for the sake of good deed doing. But rather to guide us to work towards that which gives glory to our Father.
