pointless debates

I heard on tv today that a famous jazz musician died today. He expressed his faith in his songs( believed in Christ) and struggled with cancer for years. Well anyway my parents were big fans of his. My parents believe in Christ but stopped fellowship years ago.

For mothers day my wife and I got my mom a devotional which she loves. We were talking today about his death and she said that through what she's been reading (in the devotional) she knows he's living a wonderful life now. What do I think? I think he's DEAD( for the time being). But I just half heartedly said "yeah". I just don't think I would get anyhere by debating with my mom about the afterlife status. I'm just happy she's reading the Bible and getting inspiration. They know I don't believe in hell, but other than that I 've let a lot of topics just go. Does anybody else not feel the need to debate about these things with family? Or do you? I don't want to make them think I belive in something I do not, but when the words don't come, I don't say anything. Just wanted some input. Thanx

Yep, some things I just let 'em slide.  I try to use some discernment, leading of the Spirit as to when it seems time to say something or when it seems time to smile and nod, and say something like "God is good...He'll take care of it".  :thumbsup:

To a dead person the resurrection would seem instantaneous to for all practical purposes it's the same thing. Personally, I generally do not intervene unless someone is being injured of is being caused undue despair by an untruth. Or if I am asked!

I agree...to the living it may be years and years of awareness.  To the dead, it's just a blink of the eye. :wink1:

hi ya all,
I remember years ago when my late mother in laws' brother died. It was when i was misquided that i thought that not all are His beloved sons. Thank God i didn't say out loud what i was thinking, albeit that her brother was now in hell!!!!!! What a storm that would have caused!!!  When my mother in law died recently, on the day of her funeral, a beautiful butterfly hovered outside her house. I would like to think that that was a reminder that all is well.

But as firstborn888 said, to the dead the resurrection is instantaneous maybe as near death experiencers claim. God is God of the living not of the dead. All are alive to Him.
