And He said to them, "Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.


This is one of my favorite parts of the gospels, and indeed the fishermen became fishers of men. Question is, can we also become fishers of men and try to "catch" them to understand the truth of universal reconciliation?
Micah 7:7

But as for me, I will look to the Lord; I will wait for the God of my salvation; my God will hear me.

John 15:5

I am the vine. You are the branches. He who remains in me, and I in him, the same bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.

We are the fishermen. Any fish caught would be from God as when Jesus told the fishermen to cast their nets on the otherside of the boat (contrary to fisherman knowledge and logic) 153 huge fish as a result. God gives the results and leads them to where he chooses. We are just to throw the "bait" (Christ) into the waters. (keep it attached to your line though as God may use you to reel him in) :laughing7:

Don't miss this in the analogy - when you catch fish, you pull them from the water (immersion in the world/reality) into the air (a new, heavenly element).
Socrates taught Plato.  Plato taught Aristotle.  Aristotle tutored the son of Philip of Macedon.  This boy grew up to become Alexander the Great, largely by slaughtering a lot of people.  That's philosophy.

Jesus spoke the Truth.  He blessed the poor.  He healed the sick.  He even raised the dead.  He died on a cross for us, lived again, and came back long enough to tell us to love one another.  That's religion.

YHVH = Behold the Nail, Behold the Hand = Jesus

Originally it (likely) was the UR gospel they became fishers of men for. :smile: Although the 1st resurrection is still a far surpassing resurrection than the 2nd (for a while) which is the one for all those who have "died in their sins". ...Not as joyful a one, for a while, likely until the 'day' of the examining of all things has ended, and anyone not believing at the close of, goes to the 2nd death, and until "all things are made new")

The truth of UR is the gospel, and that is what we are to catch men for - the true Gospel of Victory.  Many of them may already be believers in Christ, but still be mired down in the gospel of fear.  Hopefully, we will reach unbelievers and believers who have been taught herecy.

The idea here is that, to fish you must use a bait that is attractive to fish.  To fish for men, the Gospel of Victory is attractive "bait."  The gospel of fear is NOT attractive; it is repulsive!
