The God of the Bible has a far lower view of the human imagination than does Tolkien, and He certainly does not take credit for its mythical speculations. Instead, He warns us repeatedly that "the imagination of man's heart is evil from his youth." [Genesis 8:21, NKJ] While Tolkien seems to view Christianity and oneness with Christ from a universal perspective, God tells us that only those who are "born of the Spirit" can understand His truths and receive His thoughts. And even this select group is easily tempted to imagine or "invent" unholy myths and images.

The answer to your question in your thread title is NO.    You can actively imagine ways to share the gospel and your thoughts and feelings and beliefs.  You can also actively imagine ways to take advantage of people and do harm.

Determining which you are doing is for you to work out with God.

every thought in our mind come from one of two sources.

either of God and His Holy spirit..or  from the spirit of the

adversary.

this is why we are to bring unto subjection every thought

under Christ.

Your thoughts are not even your own..you have never had an

original thought of your own. Your thought life man be

somewhat unique in it's various configurations as a human being
but as of yet, there is truly nothing new under the sun.

That is truly why we are virgins, having not had a thought of our own, yet[note the 144,000]

Now,when He makes NEW Jerusalem and a NEW earth..there

is truly something NEW under the sun.

Just because a thought is run past your brain, does NOT MEAN

IT IS YOURS..you could very easily have picked it up out of

the 'air'   the last bowl is poured upon the power of the prince

of the air..after that His wrath is finished.

God by His Holy spirit can cause you to will and do His will..

He sends His thoughts into our mind to direct us...Also..the

written word is His thoughts and mind on things revealed to us.

What you need to realize is that the mystery of lawlessness

is our adversary's ability to imitate God in this way.He can and

does put all matter of thought in our head..and has power to

elicit disturbing emotions that are contrary to the Holy spirit.

  Love hate,peace,strife

our flesh is corruptible..or as a harlot..it will easily become

   one with either spirit.

the Holy spirit helps us with this wrestling.

Just beware..you do not have to feel dirty because of an evil

thought..but sternly rebuke it and dismiss it. Beware your heart

and don't let it entice it. For that is an entirely other matter..

we are not to present our body members unto these negative

evil things, but if you allow it in your heart..the conclusion is it

will express itself in evil works.

It is NOT YOU,but IT IS AT WORK ON AND IN YOUR FLESH

this why Paul cried out 'who will deliver me from this body

undergoing this death"

the good and evil knowledge is what it's all about...union of

our bodies with both the spirit of God and evil///to know is to

become one....Adam 'knew" EVE  =one flesh

Jesus is the only one who has been perfectly preserved

from such an experience. Legions of angels protected Him from

their various machinations.

Lightening,,is an elect[ri city] display of energy. When you see

Him coming on the clouds..and it is as lightening shining from

east to west...note this..our thoughts are generated through

elect[ric] impulses in our brain..they fire just like lightening..

in this way God can speak[thunder] and cause you to see[light]

His thoughts and mind.

You must remember that satan himself will

cause 'fire'[lightening] to come down from heaven[misleading

thoughts]

Note He used lightening to ignite and give light in the temple..

Are these thought NEW to you?

Actually a lack of imagination is a sin and one of the grossest, most deplorable kind.  There is no progress without the divine impulse of imagination.  I could perhaps make an argument on Ephesians 5 that be being filled with the Holy Spirit could, [among other things,] be interpreted as be being filled with holy imagination.  Disconnect the imagination from the heart's longing for God and one's life's work and one has separated one's self from not only being the image of God but anything approximating the supernatural and have lowered themselves beneath the beasts of the field who at least have imagination enough for every need to be met and for their divine communion with God to be maintained (Psalm 104:21, Psalm 145:16, Isaiah 63:13-14, Jeremiah 31:27-28, Joel 1:20; Joel 2:22, et. al., et. al., et. al.)

I truely believe God has the best and most active imagination in existence!

For it is God who works in us to will and to do of His good pleasure.

Fully agreed CP a dull mind couldn't design such a beautiful plant and animal kingdom....
Plus AO who was the designer of your imagination.....?
1 Timothy 2:3-4  ...God our Savior;  Who will have all men to be saved...
John 12:47  And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.
Romans 4:5 But to the one who does not work, but believes in the one who declares the ungodly righteous ...

Yeah, a lot of people get leery of the imagination based off of misreading 2Corinthians 10 as though it were saying to cast down anything approximating imagination, when it's not.  It's saying to bring every imagination into conformity with the finished work of Christ and His High Priestly Ministry.

Or contextually in 2Corinthians 10: bring every imagination into harmony with Christ's Gospel Ministers, particularly the Apostles and Prophets among us, if you include the assessment of the book of Ephesians on what our foundation is with Christ Jesus as the chief cornerstone.

The imagination is the first part of you that you submit to His Lordship and High Priestly ministry of christening and baptizing the world around you in His Blood and Love through the confession of your faith in the exceeding great and precious promises --and it's the first area where you go astray in any area from the plan of God.  And people get leery of their own imaginations through a sin consciousness and feeling as though every problem they've ever had has been directly retraceable to their imagination.  Just means to dump that recipe for disaster and use higher quality ingredients in your mental blender/bread maker, and those higher quality ingredients are only to be found in the Written Word of God if you're going to deal with organisms that haven't been genetically modified.

Fear tolerated is faith contaminated, so stay in His Written Word until the love of God is allowed to run it's full course with joy and it'll cast out all fear when it hits that point of critical mass/velocity within you.  Literally the demensions of fear in your life will begin to implode and begin to be cast into demensions far beyond your reach that are reserved only for that kind of trash.  Literally, you stay in the promises of God until your imagination becomes pregnant.  And when your imagination is impregnated by the incorruptible virgin seed of the Written Word of God, the Holy Spirit will come upon you and the power of the highest will overshadow you.  Therefore what will be born of you will be called the Son of God.

The Written Word of God will show you what will be a sign/imagination/perception/impression to you and it will always be peace on earth, good will towards men.  Imagination is not evil.  It's the spiritual sexual part of you, or the sexual part of your spirit.  Either it's a harlot for the world and a dumpster for it's trash or a Catholic mystic might call it the Mother (or midwife) of God.

Wanted to add that the many parables of Jesus never tell what it's about. They are designed to tickle your imagination. To find out what they really say.
