Lately I have been watching Ghost Adventures on TV. Have any of you seen that show? I dont know how i feel about it, what do you guys think or what opinions do you all have about ghosts and spirits that are out there haunting old houses? It kinda scares me...lol yet again I like to watch the TV show its kinda interesting. :mshock:
Sweets years ago me and my friend went to a road that was supposed to be haunted. We parked on a bridge at night and rolled the windows down. After a few moments we started to hear this weird mumbling sound coming from under the bridge. Well I cranked the truck back up and rode out of there lol. Now it could've been anything but it scared us.
I really have no idea what ghosts are and what their purpose is.
 That sounds creepy Sweety! LOL!!! :laughing7: I guess ghosts are suppose to be spirits that are wondering around? I too am not too sure on why those spirits are around haunting and scaring people around or what they are all about. I cant remember of a time when I was scared like that, except for when Im alone...I feel like Im being watched and followed around? :dunno2: As if someone is behind me walking with me and my basement when I go down there at night, its creepy I go up the stairs fast!
I've heard many theories.
Some say they're demons.
Some say they're souls who remain on earth because they're still holding on to fleshly habits. I personally don't believe that because i believe when a person dies they go to sleep in the grave until they are resurrected. But I'm not sure they're demons either.
I dont know, Ive heard the same thing. Perhaps they are souls in need and need prayer it could be? I dont know if they are demons either. We can search and find out...

This wouldn't preclude sleep walking spirits. In my earlier days in UR I was wondering if it was the Matthew 25:46 age-lasting corrections at work, or if it was the chained spirits described in Jude. I haven't looked at that subject in 6 or 7 years though and am just sorta tossing ideas out there right now that I entertained a long time ago to see if anything resonates true with my heart. Some of it is just fear at work with someone going into an old house while they're a bundle of nerves and suddenly wind gets into the place through a crack in a window or a wall and the curtains start moving or people start hearing either a whistle or a moan that's just the wind at work in a house that could use some remodeling. But when you see a "Red Coat" in an old colonial theatre sitting there and enjoying the play or some other type of performance in an empty seat, or someone somewhere between opaque and transparent in a library reading the rest of War and Peace that they either never got to finish or felt like they finally understood, then some kind of disturbance has likely happened in that area that's tied that spirit, whether demon or if it's just a finger print of the person's essence that's been gone for the longest time. A spiritual clone or at least a disturbance of spirits, finger print of theirs or whatever, that have been gone for ages?? It's interesting in the United States how a lot of these haunted areas that aren't hoaxes or easily explained by the wind or some kind of gas coming out of the ground, that the so-called real or more real ones tend to be in areas where there's been a lot of blood shed, like near an old battle ground in the Northeastern United States or where there's a lot of "Old West" history with bars, shooting, gambling, and prostitution. Inevitably, your more realistic hauntings are areas with a particularly rich history. Some areas of the world even have the occasional re-enactment of famous battles that'll seem to happen on that ghost plane. You can walk out there in the middle of both sides shooting at each other and because they're not really there, or aren't a part of this world, you're not going to go home in a body bag for walking out in the middle of their fight. Some of it could be related to time and parallel world phenomenon with the degree of emotional and other types of energies that were released either in this world or in some other that happens to overlap with that geographic area of this world. I've wondered if some of it were from spirits that are in the grave, as some insist that we're in the ground until the resurrection, if perhaps some of it is post traumatic stress disorder being worked out with their memories projecting from their souls into some sort of holograms that many people are able to see. Some of it could be an honest window into Hell. Something is definitely going on because not all of these reports of ghosts are camp fire stories and urban legends. Some of these are the real thing, though I'm not sure that I've touched on anything related to what's going on in this short post of mine. People that tend to have more violent dreams might be projecting things that others can see and be disturbed by while they're awake. I've had a few dreams where "that was just tooooo real!!!" Perhaps I was being chased or fighting for my life and the apparent lack of involvement of people standing by in rescuing or assisting me might have been people scared spitless at what they were seeing of some type of psychic reality being worked out in front of their eyes as my mind was doing something weird in my sleep.
I lived in a haunted house once. It was an old house next to a church and across from the church cemetary.
I never saw the ghost, just heard it. It would play with the latch on the front door, such that I would think someone was coming into the house. At night in bed, I would hear it coming up the back stairs to the bedroom--thump thump thump--getting closer. Then it would stop. A few times it sat on the bed, and I thought it was a person sitting there, but never saw anything. Three other people had encounters with it in that house. One houseguest made fun of the stories and then came rushing into my room at 2 in the morning shouting that something had thrown her book across the bedroom. One friend went up to the attic and was exploring around up there (I wouldn't go up there) when she felt a hand on the back of her neck, and came rushing down the attic stairs. There was no one behind her. Another person talked to the ghost, thinking it was a person in her room. No one was there.
I was never afraid of it--don't ask me why. Just thinking about it now is spooking me out. But, I also loved that house--it had a wonderful feeling about it, so close to the church.

It shouldn't scare you, they have no power unless you give it to them. What they are can be two things, vain imaginations gone wild, or a type of emotional harmonics of the people who once lived in the house or still do, and projections from others (discerned through tactile experience of things), we call spirits. What people don't understand is they are experiencing. These spirits have a 'life' of their own once left behind and need to be exercised through a higher spiritual authority, the Son of God, the Name of Jesus. I have plenty of experiences with ghosts, demons, and other such spiritual creatures. There is no lack of them as long as people have a mind to imagine and a lack of peace in their lives.
 Thanks everyone for your input, if you have anymore stories please tell them I would like to hear more, this just got interesting to me.... My uncle in LA lives next door to a cementary, and he said they hear things at night. They believe that there are people buried under their house which is possible. That sounds kinda scary to me! When my grandma was with us, she said she would see a lady in a white dress here at our house, and she would see shadows also, Praise GOD I have not seen anything, but like i mentioned before when Im alone at home I feel like someone is following me, or is watching me at home. One time my mom once pulled a dead black cat from our basement, which is odd because back then we hardly every had pets! How the cat came inside we don't know? Like I said if any of you have more stories, or input on this please share. If these ghosts are spirits in need of God, I pray for God to reach down to them, and release them of the sin or hard life they went through. If its a demon trying to cause harm, I pray for God to take care of it. Like SOTW said, we shouldn't be afraid of these spirits, because they cant harm us unless we let them. The power of God in Jesus is much stronger than anything...If He is with us who could be against us.
This is elaborate, and it's just a theory.
What if we begin our spiritual existence in lower life forms and then reincarnate up until we reach the human form?
Remember the story of Legion? The evil spirits did not want to be cast into the depths of the sea--to be sent back to the fish form, the beginning of their spiritual journey. So Jesus just sent them into the swine-- one of the more intelligent species. But the swine ran off into the sea so maybe the spirits were sent to the sea anyway. From there, it might take ages of growth to reach the human stage.
So ghosts may be spirits out of their proper place-- therefore demons.
I don't have any definite opinions on this, but I've often wondered if ghosts are somehow part of God's plan of purification. Is God letting people who are attached to this world tire themselves of it? I often wonder that. Even so, I have never seen or experienced a haunting.

I have, along with many others who, though may be in a minority of the overall population, have no question of it's authenticity. The lack of experience does not disqualify the experience is real. So though you have no experience, I do believe it is still okay to have an opinion concerning what it may be.
Has it ever crossed your mind that those ghosts that wonder around are lost souls in need of prayer? I often wonder about it, im pretty sure they are lost or have something they cant let go of. What do any of you think?
If we die aren't we supposed to stay dead until resurrection?
Sounds like those spirits found some sort of loophole in the above statement/law...?

Best answer I have read so far.
I do believe there are spirits that are a little naughty but I don't believe they are, nor are they going to be human.

Although I'm open minded about the topic, I lean toward the idea of "soul sleep", that is, when a person dies, he or she is dead, and stays dead until the resurrection. That being said, the most trustworthy person I know (my wife) told me a ghost story and she's not one to sensationalize. About twenty years ago, her older sister was shot dead by marxist guerillas (in Colombia) right in front of her house. For several weeks, she appeared to my wife several times and said things like, "hable de Dios a la gente" (tell the people about God) Also a young boy who later lived in her house and had never met her said that a strange ghost woman kept appearing to him. When he saw a picture of the young woman, he claimed it was indeed her who was the mysterious ghost-woman.
Just something to think about. :Sparkletooth:
AB,
The Bible clearly states the dead know nothing. To me that mean they can't wander around as spirits/ghost but still stay dead.
But the Bible also forbids talking to the dead using black magic.
If something is forbidden it can be done IMO.
IIRC one of the dead prophets was talked to by a sorcerer.
That means the Bible supports the possibility for the dead to return....?
That would mean the dead stay dead unless some special powers are at work that awaken them.
Your wifes sister sounds like one of the good ghosts because she was 'promoting' God.
Maybe she was given that task by God?
I doubt someone practicing black magic does that to perform positive actions.
In one of Dr. Ernest Martin's articles about "angels", he said he believed that we all have an angel that looks like us and may even have the same name as we do. I have wondered about this a lot.
Remember when Peter was in prison and he was released and came to where the other disciples were? The woman thought that it was Peter's angel. Also when Saul went to the medium and Saul talked to someone who he thought was Samuel? This could explain why people see spirits who look like a loved one or some other human who has died. Could they be the angels of those who have passed? If we have entertained angels unawares that means they can, or do, look like humans. Just a thought.

No doubt, who do you think that was?
I saw my grandmother 4 weeks after she had died because I asked the Lord to relieve my grieving. That morning, she gave me a hug and a kiss and then walked away through the wall.
Ghosts are not always ghosts, but the resurrected dead who are in Christ reigning with Him.

Maybe this explains some of the bilocation phenomenon of many of the Catholic saints over the centuries. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martin_de_Porres (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martin_de_Porres) If Jesus could summon 12 legions of angels, then that's very likely what each of us can easily do if we abide in Him and His Word abides in us. What if that many looked like us? Makes more sense than the extraterrestrial angle I was thinking about earlier.
But if angels could look like us, does that mean that demons could too, as in the Doppelgänger phenomenon?

I don't know Martin. Ernest Martin said that we could tell the difference between a bad spirit and a good spirit by the length of their hair. A bad spirit had hair (like the long hair of women). It is a sign of dishonor and shame. (Rev. 9:1-21) (Rev. 9:8)
Do you suppose someone like Hitler had a demon? Would this demon roam the earth looking for another victim?
Just some thoughts I had.

The Spear of Destiny isn't roaming the earth. As with all of it's previous victims, it's awaiting the poor schnook that aggressively pursues it the way Hitler did. If demons can be associated with ancient artifacts, then I wonder why at least half of the hauntings wouldn't be demons.
I'm not recommending this website, but this webpage has photographs of ghosts on it, some of them more believable than others and some "you've gotta be kidding" photos:

I got something on St. Martin De Porres, a black saint, when we were Catholic. When my grandma was with us, and my uncle was a baby...he was deathly sick. Back then, my family was really poor and could not afford to pay for expenses like health and sometimes even food. My grandma had no choice but to run and take my uncle to the hospital and when she took him there she seen a black doctor and asked for his help. The doctor opened his mouth and told my grandma..."Mam your son is under critical condition we must keep him here" my grandma told us he took my uncle and got him taken care of...The doctor told her to go home and come back tomorrow and that he was going to be taken care of. My grandma came in the morning and she was looking for the black doctor to give him thanks, the nurses there told her..."No mam the man standing there is the one that took care of your son last night, we have no black doctors here" She told them "but I remember seeing him last night? you cant tell me he is not here??" the nurses.."No mam no black doctors here" she took my uncle home and as catholics you know that they thank the saints for doing a certain miracle, so my grandma dressed my uncle as St. Martin de Porres. Pretty interesting, but the one who did it all was GOD! :laughing7:
Hi Loving Hope,
Thank you soooo very much for sharing that. Too many people like Martin De Porres still make house and hospital calls to where after a while, after you've heard enough hundreds of these stories, this whole planet sounds like reruns of Michael Landon's old show "Highway To Heaven." I love it when I hear stories about the guy that I'm named after having made an appearance like that. That absolutely made my day 'cause it's just one more testimony to the fact that Christ Jesus has abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the Gospel.

Has anyone ever heard of "The Ghost of Flight 401" -- the phenomenon itself, not the book or movie? Evidently after this particular crash, the pilots who accidentally caused the accident made several well-documented appearances on other planes in the fleet, all in attempts to keep the passengers and crew safe. One near-death experience website has a particularly good description of it, but if you Google it, you'll find plenty of informative websites and a section on Wikipedia. Personally I find it really creepy and cannot read about it this close to my bedtime. The part about the infrared oven really gets me.
If these guys are for real, it seems that God let them come back a few times to do some good in the world. Still not sure what I think about all this . . .
Years ago I went to eat Sunday noon with a young deacon and his wife after the meeting we had way out in the country. After dinner the brother said, "Come with me. I want to show you something." He went ahead of me up the stairs into the attic, telling me to follow. I did. As I went through the opening in the floor on up into the attic it was as though I was entering some invisible colder non-physical substance. He asked me if I experienced anything when I came up into the attic. I let him know I thought it strange he would ask and told him what had happened to me. He said the same thing happened to everyone who came up there.
Then he asked me if it seemed like there was a center, a location where this feeling or presence was strongest and if I could point it out. I looked around for just a moment because I definately felt it much strong under the eaves behind where we'd come up into the attic. I told him so and pointed it out. He said that everyone he knew of had the same experience. He said that when they bought the house, at that location in the attic they found box after box after box of pornography piled there, which they took out and burned.
Then he told me they found out that the house had been uninhabited for 7 years before they bought it. The only previous occupant had personally built it fom the ground up. Around 40 years old, he had been arrested connected to a rape charge. While in jail they discovered he was possibly linked to 4 rape/ murders, maybe many more. He had then killed himself in jail so the investigations ceased.
A friend related this story to me. As a single mother with 4 kids she'd rented a house that was at least 5 miles off the road on a dirt path in Colorado. She really liked the spacious views, grassland and trees all the way to the mountains in the distance. It was a wonderful place to raise her kids, specially the boys. After a couple years the landlord visting her asked why she kept all the windows in all directions in the whole house wide open to the views except for that one on the first floor with the shades down and drapes drawn. She told him, while she loved the place, was very much at peace and felt safe there, she just felt too uneasy every time she tried to leave that window uncovered so had to close it over again and had come to just leave things that way all the time for most of when she lived there.
He told her that the man who built the house had a business that caused him to travel a lot. He was found sitting with his feet up on the sill of that window. He had killed himself with a shotgun in his mouth. They thought he had been distraught over his wife leaving him for another man. They had been newly-weds and he had built the house for her. With the thaw the next spring water flowed in an arroyo, washing away soil from a bank where some coyotes nosed out the bodies of two women. What apparently had actually happened was the young husband had come back from a trip a few days earlier than expected and found his wife in bed with another woman. He had killed them both, buried them in the bank of that arroyo in a spot that he was looking at out of the window when he died, the window that had to be kept covered.
