Title: Free will? What would a loving parent do if...
Post by: Caffus on May 26, 2015, 12:27:42 AM
If a three year old wanted to starve to death, would the parent put their favorite foods on the table and call the child...but becuase the parent loves the child, let the child have thier way and starve to death? Or would a loving parent do everything in thier power to get the child to eat and be restored to health?
Compared to God...according to the Bible we are but clay and He loves us. He would not allow us to be lost forever. He will accomplish His will. :dsunny:

If a bad guy tried to harm the three year old, and every time he was caught and released he went back to harm the three year old. Would a loving parent continually see the man caught and released or attempt to have him locked up forever?

I am not making an argument for or against, just demonstrating the weakness of such analogies.

Most human loving parents wouldnt love the one trying to harm thier child, nor would they be sure they would have the ability to prevent the harm. But God is Sovereign, does love all and knows what it will take to redeem everyone of us as individuals.

I completely agree Caffus. The link below best explains the notion of "Free Will" in my opinion.

Thank you..the purpose of my simple anology is just to contradict the idea or train of thought that it is a loving thing to allow anyone to end in ruin or eternal suffering because of their will instead of changing thier will so it will end in thier ultimate well being.

I no longer believe in so called free will even though we make choices because I think only God truly has free will. I think God gives us kids to teach us how to love like God does, unconditionally, and kids learn about God's love through the love of their parents. I agree that people should think about how they love their kids if they still think God created most of his kids to be tortured in fire forever. It makes no sense, but the religious programming has cauterized the consciences of people to the point that they accept that insanity without question. I think most of us here used to be like that. Thank God we were shown the truth. Now we have to try to help those who are still deceived.

Yes..many of them are afraid to even look at another possibility because if what they now believe is true (which it isn't) they could go to hell.  When they're made by the Holy Spirit to search..they will listen and be taught, in His time.
This belief that God who is just, loving and perfect, has sovereign control gives the peace that the world can't understand, that the Bible talks about.
