"God's Overpowering Purpose"
Acts 26:16
I have appeared to you for this purpose.
The vision Paul had on the road to Damascus was not a passing emotional experience, but a vision that had very clear and emphatic directions for him. And Paul stated, "I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision" (v. 19). Our Lord said to Paul, in effect, "Your whole life is to be overpowered or subdued by Me; you are to have no end, no aim, and no purpose but Mine." And the Lord also says to us, "You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go..." John 15:16

It is not enough to give mental assent to the fact that God has redeemed the world, nor even to know that the Holy Spirit can make all that Jesus did a reality in my life. I must have the foundation of a personal relationship with Him. Paul was not given a message or a doctrine to proclaim. He was brought into a vivid personal, overpowering relationship with Jesus Christ. Acts 26:16 is tremendously compelling "...to make you a minister and a witness ..." There would be nothing there without a personal relationship. Paul was devoted to a Person, not to a cause. He absolutely was Jesus Christ's. He saw nothing else and he lived for nothing else. "For I determine not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified."

Thus that which was written in the tables of stone must give way to that which is now written in heart and mind. ... God has a people which follow the promptings of the Spirit, because the Voice is within, writing His laws in their heart and mind, and they are living a life which redounds to His glory, in freedom, joy, and peace.
He has to remove our stony heart just as much as we need to be loosed from the tables of stone, that it might be a living, pulsating, vibrant expression of truth. We are not left without a law, but no more is it engraved upon stone, as a letter that killeth, but it is a new ministration of the "Spirit", which giveth life.
Many have rebelled against the restraints of the law, have cast it aside, to become lawless. They caught a glimpse of the freedom of the new, without possessing the SPIRIT OF THE NEW, thus use these truths for an occasion to the flesh. Jesus is our transition from the old into the new -- not to abandon the old, He fulfilled it, and He will fulfill it in us, for the "righteousness of the law shall be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit", (Rom 5:4). The indwelling Spirit of God leads to a path of holiness far more exacting than the first covenant on tables of stone, yet it is wrought in freedom because it is HIS LIFE living the requirements in us.

"From the time that Jesus declared "Your house is left unto you desolate", (Matt 23:38) and "The veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom", (Matt 27:51), since that time our "God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that He is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands", (Acts 17:24)
There are two Greek words, which have been translated as "temple", they are HIERON, meaning a building, and NAOS, referring to the inner sanctuary. When the veil was rent asunder, as far as God was concerned, that building ceased to be a temple, naos, and thereafter was just a building, hieron. Then Paul picks up the word "naos" and uses it exclusively when speaking of THE TEMPLE, INNER SANCTUARY, which is the new, living dwelling place of God. He dwelleth no more in temples, naos, made with hands, such are only building, but He dwelleth in the inner sanctuary of your heart :HeartThrob: and mine.
"But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building (making)", Heb 9:11. He is forming HIS TEMPLE with the LIVING STONES whom He is processing and preparing through the nitty-gritty of every day living. Renewed into the mind of Christ, for His dwelling shall be all of one mind, HIS! Brought to that place where from every avenue of our being we cry out, "not my will, but Thine be done", His will is supreme in His entire house -- supreme, yes, it is also the sole delight of all who are His temple. This living temple fulfills, Haggai 2:9, "The glory of this latter house shall be greater than of the former, saith the Lord of hosts; and in this place will I give peace."

Our Lord takes our human flesh and transforms it, and now EVERY BELIEVER'S BODY HAS BECOME 'THE TEMPLE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT.'

Hi Marie: Yes, I, too, am awed with the writings of Oswald Chambers MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST; Ray Prinzing DAILY OVERCOMING DEVOTIONAL; and TASparks DAILY OPEN WINDOWS... all so Christ-centered... Along with the Bible, I've been reading these three devotionals on a daily basis for many years. It's amazing just how many times all three address the same topic on the same day, i.e. 'temple'
Then when I read one of Rosered's replies on another thread which included

I will worship toward thy holy TEMPLE, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.

This was something that Paul came to see when it pleased God to reveal His Son in him. And he said, "Let me get out of all this legalistic system. Jesus of Nazareth crucified is alive. He has been revealed alive in my heart."

I've been looking at walk, stand, sit vs sit, walk, stand. It's interesting to me that the old man walks, stands, sits while the new man sits (in heavenly places in Christ) walks in Spirit and then is able to stand fast... it's getting to be a long study...
CHRIST, our Companion and our Friend, gather us all in; and grant that, resting on Thy strength, we may be healed of the pains of mind and body; and thus restored, may go on, not only with determination, but with the inexpressible joy which comes from giving up ourselves to Thy service.

BEHOLDING HIM
For he endured, as seeing Him who is invisible. Heb 11:27
Moses endured because he was able, at that very moment, to SEE HIM who was invisible. There are several Greek words translated as "endure", and perhaps the most familiar one is "hupomeno," meaning to remain under, and bespeaks of that patient bearing of the load until victory comes. But that is not the word which is used here, which is "kartereo," meaning TO BE STRONG, FIRM, built up from two words, strong or mighty, and to hold fast.
There is within us a desire, not simply to endure, remaining under the load and not seeking to escape, but to actually be steadfast and strong in every situation. To pass through the testings and trials with a firmness, a strength which enables us to endure. The support for such a stability can only come from BEHOLDING HIM NOW, and thus drawing from Him that needed resource equal to the need.
There is a certain realm of faith and exercise in BELIEVING, as Peter wrote, "Whom not having seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see not, yet BELIEVING, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory." When faith, under trial, can so rejoice, it is sure to ultimately gain the victory, and see the evidences and manifestations of His salvation. But it is while we wait for the literal, visible evidences, that we need to behold Him who is invisible, to see Him with the inner eye, our spiritual eyesight, and to know that He is with us in the midst of all these processings.
To see Him with the understanding, to perceive Him with our spirit, to become conscious of His presence dwelling within us, this is a vital necessity for our day. We have not hid our head in the sand, like an ostrich, pretending that trouble is not coming. We must behold HIM, and keep Him in the center of our vision, that we might be strong, able to endure the time of travail, and emerge more than conquerors through Him that loved us. "Turn away mine eyes from beholding vanity; and quicken Thou me in Thy way." Ps 119:37.

LAW's commentary
Desire of pardon is linked to earnest longing for renewing and sanctifying grace. The cleansing of the heart is the absolute work of God. It is a new creation. It is calling into existence which no power of man could accomplish. Conscious of utter impotence, the cry struggles for creating and renewing grace. Supplication is added for continuance of God's life-giving presence, and the perpetual indwelling of the Holy Spirit.
Who can express the joy of realized salvation! It is heaven begun. It is the commencement of the never-ending bliss. But it may be forfeited and interrupted for a while. Allowed sin is quick to extinguish. Let instant recourse be made to prayer. Let God, who only gave and only can renew, be supplicated to restore. The effect of this reviving grace is earnest effort to call others to the ways of God, and faith in Christ. He who enjoys this gracious treasure burns with longing that others may partake.

"Prayer, at this stage in my life, is communing with our Father and the Lord Jesus. As I go to Him He reveals more and more truth and cleanses the sin out of me. He calms my anxieties and fears as I bring them to Him. He guides me in the Way. The Word He speaks to me is the rock I stand on so that when the waves and wind crash and blow all around me I can stand firm. Prayer is the most precious thing I think! :HeartThrob:

I've been praying the Lord's prayer lately.
I'm struck by the similarities of it to heaven and earth.
"Thy kingdom come" God's kingdom in Jesus Christ is come to earth in the believer.
"Thy will be done" God's will in Jesus Christ is done through the believer manifesting the love of God in the world.
"On earth as it is in heaven" Jesus is king in heaven and king in earth in the believer. :HeartThrob:
