Did Jesus do paid work?

Greetings.  I much prefer doing volunteer work rather than being paid.  I like to help people, and getting paid takes away the enjoyment.  I know Jesus was a carpenter or perhaps a "Tekton" as I've read, but I don't recall coming across any scripture about him being paid money.  My perhaps unrealistic view is that we should all just help each other and there be no such thing as money.  Of course there are those who are greedy and want a bigger slice of the pie or whatever and so that kind of stuff things up.  But anyway as much as possible I would like to just do volunteer work.  I am constantly trying to think of ways to survive without having to need money. 

Is there any scripture that supports people doing unpaid work rather than paid work?
