Title: Being a Christian means...
Post by: MacPherson on March 12, 2009, 10:12:42 PM
What is it precisely do you think being a "Christian" means?  What is its essence? Could you put it in a single statement?  "Being a Christian means..."

Good question Brian.

Being a Christian means being led by the Spirit. Now what the heck does that mean? Hmmmmmm. Being a vessel that is formed and is being formed and will be formed by the Potter.

Sorry I'm tired.

:cloud9: You know the Spirit has been nagging me over that title for the last few years. Call me a heretic, but there is something in that nagging, that I don't have revelation on yet, but I have a feeling He may not want that "embroidered on our robes." Blessings....

There is no heresy or philosophy so abhorrent to the church as a human being.

"Being a Christian means..." doing what Christ does, love humanity no matter what they do to us...in doing that we love like God does. Christ came to show us the heart of God after all...

Hey thanks. I heard that quoted on the radio the other day, but didn't quite catch all of it.

Cardinal, I agree with you. From what I have read on this and I could be wrong. The word Christian was given to the followers of Christ as an offensive word. This word was used to make light of and offend the apostles and followers of Christ. You know, like in today's world when we call each other names and the names makes us a raciest. Well, Christian is one of these names I am referring to.

While some cynics think that being a Christian means to eat a cheese sandwich every single day, in actual fact it means to be yoked to Jesus until you're doing everything the way that He'd do it and not just doing everything His way.  Countless Scriptures that I could mention along these lines, from cover to cover in the New Testament, but for the time being I'll leave it at a reference to Luke 6:40.

Yes, that's an historical fact as far as I know. Follower of Christ. Disciple of Christ. Servant of Christ. Are more Scriptural titles.
