Went to a Baptist church

Here in Romania. And to my surprise, there was no mention in the sermon of hell or even unbelievers, only of Israel, Christ, God and the apostles and our duty to pass our faith to the next generations. One of the best sermons I've heard. At least here the Baptist church is a step above the orthodox Church.

Not to shoot you down but are we talking about one sermon?
Many churches that preach "through the Bible" starting with Genesis
go through many many sermons not mentioning hell since hell isn't mentioned. :Peace2:

HELL IS AN UNPOPULAR SUBJECT IN TODAY'S SOCIETY.  FEW PREACHERS I HAVE HEARD SINCE THE 1970'S MENTIONED HELL MORE THAN OCCASIONALLY.  BUT THEY DEFINITELY TEACH IT!  IF YOU ARE CURIOUS, ASK THE PASTOR HOW HE BELIEVES CONCERNING UR AND ET.  BUT HOPEFULLY THINGS ARE DIFFERENT IN SOME OTHER COUNTRIES, LIKE ROMANIA.

Well, this sermon  put the emphasis on today's believers in relation with certan Bible verses but not a word of hell.

Some Orthodox priests here seem to talk more of the Devil than they do of Christ, that's just wrong.

JB- I know they believe in ET at the church but when they preach through the bible as I said they did, hell is mentioned only when the mistranslated word is used. It's the same with money. Money is the subject in many sermons in many churches but since it is rarely mentioned in scripture it is rarely mentioned when pastors are preaching "through the Bible"

I do remember how hellfire and brimstone preachers used to come into our church and preach a week-long revival, Monday-Friday, 7-9 pm, and the church would be packed out.  I have vivid memories of preachers banging on the pulpit and shouting warnings from the top of their lungs, with sweat streaming down their faces.  They would literal "scare the hell out of people."  Sometimes numerous people would stream forward during the invitation to "get saved."  But in the course of the regular Sunday sermons, hell was mentioned much less often.
