A Community Of Love

This came from a commentary that i read. Your thoughts please.
The church is where one would think LOVE would be most exemplified. Sadly, that's not the case. Granted, you get glimpses of it from time to time and some churches do a better job than others; however, the church in America particularly is more interested in attracting a crowd, building membership, protecting doctrine, advancing their corporate image, and having the best PR for the least expense. Oh yes, and of course one has to be Republican: against homosexuals and abortions, and for war and the death penalty!



When George Barna goes out and asks those sensitive questions as to what the people think of the church today, the answers seem to indicate that the church image needs some alterations. Common perceptions among the non-churched is that the institution of church is an association of like-minded people who think themselves better than most others, and for some obscure reason love to get together weekly to practice a little mutual admiration.

Sadly we can see how the "world" perceives that. 

In other churches though, it seems that divisiveness and competition for esteemed offices is the mantra.

The church should be a community of love wherein their differences don't divide them, but challenge them to be more than they are. Living in a relationship of love and making a contribution to the community, must be the goal if the name "Christian" is going to be placed somewhere on the premises.

The church has been established in the world (or should be) to be the salt, light, leaven, and LOVE!

The subjective role of the church is to love God, and then to objectify that by loving our neighbors. It really is that simple. It's the TWO commands that Matthew (Chaper 22) told us Jesus said to obey.

A community of love that the world wants to be a part!
