The whole cosmos is perishing outwardly because of sin. Disintegrating in chaos and futility.

But from within is is being renewed into the image of Christ, even as the flames consume the old as He is making all things new.

Since all these things are to be destroyeddisolved(lyomenon) in this way, what sort of people ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, 12looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be destroyedwill be dissolved(lythesontai) by burning, and the elements(stoicheon elemenental principles) will melt(pass away) with intense heat! 13But according to His promise we are looking for new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness dwells.

The ways of the world(elementary principles) are being consumed by the light of Christ which is fire to darkness. According to His promise(His kind intention which He purposed in Him...the summing up of all things in Christ- Eph 1:9) we are looking for new heavens and a new earth wherein dwells righteousness.

"Behold, old things pass away, All things become new".
