Title: Every mountain and island were moved out of their places
Post by: Doug on December 11, 2009, 04:03:21 AM
In Rev. 6:14, John says "every mountain and island were moved out of their places." Literalists interpret this as some sort of cataclysmic event, such as a world-wide earthquake, that is yet to occur. OTOH, the hyper-preterists insist every prophecy in Revelation was fulfilled in the first century! So, they claim not only that heaven and earth passed away, but also that every mountain and island was moved out of its position in 70 AD!

Hmm.. Don't those events sort of make each other redundant? If the earth "passed away," why would he say, "every mountain and island were moved out of their places"?

Both literalists and preterists seem to offer very poor interpretations of this prophecy.

Jesus connected mountains with faith. He spoke of faith that could move mountains. [Mat. 17:20; 21:21]

I suggest that the mountains and islands referred to in John's prophecy are symbolic; they represent things that we can have faith in: God's promises. David compared God's righteousness to great mountains.

Psalm 36:6
Thy righteousness is like the great mountains; thy judgments are a great deep: O LORD, thou preservest man and beast.

The righteousness of God is revealed in the gospel, Paul says. [Rom. 1:16-17]

When John says in Rev. 6:14 that every mountain was moved out of its place, it must mean that the promises of God and prophecies of scripture will be misinterpreted.

Many of the promises given to the church have been wrongly applied to unbelieving Jews! Whole chapters of the prophecies of Isaiah, or Zechariah, that refer to Zion, or Jerusalem, are messages intended for the church, not the Jews. In fact, according to the apostle Peter, prophecy is not about the unbelieving Jews at all, but about the gospel.

Peter said the prophets ministered "unto us," the saints, and "not unto themselves." And they wrote by "the spirit of Christ that was in them."

1 Pet. 1:9-11
Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.
Of which salvation the prophets have enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you:
Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow.
Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Spirit sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into.

Often, the scriptures are represented by the geographic locations where they were given. In the New Testament, the Mosaic covenant was associated with Mount Sinai; the Olivet Discourse of Jesus is associated with the Mount of Olives, the Sermon on the Mount is identified with an unnamed mountain. The temple is associated with Mount Zion, and since the church is the new temple of God, [Eph. 2:20] it too is called Mount Zion (or Sion), in Hebrews 12:22.

All the promises of God are prophecies! The gospel itself is a prophecy!  Dispensationalists make a great fuss about the Jews possessing their land. And preterists claim most prophecy was fulfilled, during the Jewish war in 70 AD. Both are examples of the "mountains" being displaced from their proper positions.

John wrote the prophecies of Revelation while he was exiled on the Island of Patmos, in the Aegean Sea, and so his prophecies being misinterpreted is represented by the islands being moved out of their places.

John's prophecy has been fulfilled, but not by events in 70 AD! It is fulfilled by the promotion of flawed interpretations by preterists and dispensationalists.

In the modern age, because of the popularity of dispensationalism, many Christians think that prophecy applies to a future age, called the tribulation, which occurs after the alleged "rapture" of the church to heaven. They think that prophetic events will be centered upon Jerusalem in the Middle East. And preterists similarly think prophetic events apply to Jerusalem, but in the first century.

Those who promote these theories misunderstand prophecy, because they ignore the interpretations applied to prophecy by Jesus and the apostles in the New Testament. Paul referred to the church as "Jerusalem which is above," [Gal. 4:26] and the author of Hebrews identified the church with "the heavenly Jerusalem." What could be more plain? The "Jerusalem" of prophecy, and "Zion," and the holy city, is the church!

Paul also identified the saints with "the circumcision." He said "we are the circumcision." [Phil. 3:3] This surely identifies the church with God's people, those whose names are "written in the book." [Dan. 12:1] Dispensationalists and preterists who say that the prophecies apply to the Jews and Jerusalem misinterpret prophecy, and so they fulfill the prophecy of John, when he said "every mountain and island were moved out of their places."

Zechariah said the Mount of Olives will be cleaved in the midst, and half of it moves to the north, and half to the south, forming a valley between. [Zech. 14:4] The two halves of the mountain could represent preterism and dispensationalism, which misinterpret the prophecy Jesus gave to his disciples on the Mount of Olives. This is an example of the mountain, the Mount of Olives, being figuratively moved out of its position. Like John's book of Revelation, the Olivet Discourse of Jesus has been figuratively moved from its proper position, in opposite directions!

One group says it applies in the future, the other says no, it was all fulfilled in the first century. Both groups misinterpret, and misunderstand.

Zechariah said to flee to the great valley that forms between the two halves of the Mount of Olives. It is where the "living waters" that he says will go forth from Jerusalem would flow. [Zech. 14:8] And it is where former preterists and former dispensationalists can agree, and make peace. Zechariah's prophecy applies to the church today!

Isaiah 40:4
Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain:

5And the glory of the LORD shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.

Although Isaiah's message was preached by John the Baptist, no valleys were literally filled, no mountains literally made low in those days.

But the Mosaic system, or Judaism, represented by Mount Sinai, and "Jerusalem which now is," [Gal. 4:25] was made low, because it became obsolete, as explained in the book of Hebrews.

The Jews thought that they were God's chosen people, children of Abraham, but Paul showed that those who have faith in Christ are the children of Abraham, and the circumcision. He said "they are not all Israel, which are of Israel." [Rom. 9:6]

Mount Zion, the site of the temple, was only a shadow or type of the true Zion, which is the church, [Heb. 12:22-23] and thus the literal Zion was "made low."

The crooked being made straight is explained by flawed, confusing interpretations of scripture being discredited, and replaced by true ones.

Rough places being made plain pictures difficult passages being understood.

In the events of 70 AD, the Jews involved in the rebellion no doubt expected the Messiah to come, and deliver them from the Romans, and probably, many supposed that the Gentile armies around Jerusalem were a fulfillment of Zech. 14:2. And they may have hoped the Mount of Olives would be "cleaved in its midst," as described in Zech. 4:4, which would likely destroy the army that was camped upon it. But of course, they were disappointed. And so to them, when the prophecies which seemed to foretell their deliverance appeared to have failed, all prophecy was "made low."

And similarly in the Kitos War, 115-117, when Jews of the diaspora revolted, in the provinces of Cyrenaica (Libya), Cyprus, Mesopotamia, and Egypt, and in the Bar Kokhba revolt of 132-136 AD. In both these revolts they were crushed. These events also no doubt led to much disappointment, about the promises in scripture which they applied to themselves.

Valleys will be exalted when scriptures like Joel 3:16-18; Isa. 35:1; 41:18 are fulfilled, and when light shines in "the valley of the shadow of death." [Psa. 23:4; Luke 1:79; Mat. 4:16]

This one is very interesting. Here is what J.A. Alexander said.

15. Behold I have placed thee for (i.e. appointed thee to be, or changed thee into) a threshing-sledge, sharp, new, possessed of teeth (or edges); thou shalt thresh mountains and beat (them) small, and hills like the chaf shalt them place (or make). The erroneous idea that he simply promises to furnish Israel with the means of threshing mountains, has arisen from the equivocal language of the English Version, I will make thee, which may either mean, I will make for thee, or will make thee to become, whereas the last sense only can by any possibility be put upon the Hebrew, as literally translated above. The oriental threshing machine is sometimes a sledge of thick planks armed with iron or sharp stones, sometimes a. system of rough rollers joined together like a sledge or dray. Both kinds are dragged over the grain by oxen. (See Robinson's Palestine, vol. III p. 143.) The word translated teeth strictly denotes mouths; but like the primitive noun from which it is derived, it is sometimes applied to the edge of a sharp instrument, perhaps in allusion to the figure of devouring. Here it signifies the edges, blades, or teeth, with which the threshing-wain is armed. The image presented is the strange but strong one of a down-trodden worm reducing hills to powder, the essential idea being that of a weak and helpless object overcoming the most disproportionate obstacles, by strength derived from another.

16. Thou shall fan (or winnow) them, and a wind shall take them up, and a whirlwind shall scatter them, and thou shalt joy in Jehovah, in the Holy One of Israel shalt thou boast (or glory). The figure of the preceding verse is here carried out and completed. The mountains, having been completely threshed, are winnowed, in the usual oriental mode, by being thrown to the wind. Israel, on the other hand, is safe, not through his own strength but in that of his protector, in whom, i. e. in his relation to whom, he finds his highest happiness and honour. The writer's main design is evidently still to exhibit the contrast between God and his people on the one hand, and the idols and their people on the other.

Isaiah Translated and Explained Vol II
by Joseph Addison Alexander, 1851.

I think if we understand mountains and hills here to be symbolic of God's promises, as contained in prophecy, it is by a "threshing" process that we may come to understand them, and find the "grain" or spiritual food that is hidden from most people by the cryptic language of prophecy. Interpretation of the prophecies has to be by applying the meanings of symbols that are given elsewhere in scripture.

MOUNTAIN OF CURSES AND MOUNTAIN OF BLESSINGS.

Curses and blessings are both included in God's word, so both are represented by mountains. Mount Gerizim was the mountain of blessing, and mount Ebal the mount of cursing. [Deut. 11:29] Both are among the "mountains of Israel." The curses are promises, just as blessings are promises.

All of the following are promises, represented by "the mountains of Israel," as they are included in the "Sermon on the mount."

Mat. 5:3-12
3 Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
7 Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.

The last three verses seem to show that persecution is promised to the saints, which may seem a bit like a curse, but is in fact a blessing.

The great thing about the curse is that it will eventually end. [Lev. 26; Rev. 22:3]

The law said an Israelite king should not "multiply horses to himself." [Deut. 17:16] The idea of this was that multiplying horses would increase the king's military might. Israel was supposed to rely on God to defend them.

Psalm 20:7
Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God.

Isaiah 31:1
Woe to them that go down to Egypt for help; and stay on horses, and trust in chariots, because they are many; and in horsemen, because they are very strong; but they look not unto the Holy One of Israel, neither seek the LORD!

David tells us not to be like the horse or mule.

Psa. 32:9
Be ye not as the horse, or as the mule, which have no understanding: whose mouth must be held in with bit and bridle, lest they come near unto thee.

The horse may also represent those who are carnally minded.

Jer. 5:8
They were as fed horses in the morning: every one neighed after his neighbour's wife.

The 6th trumpet plague is a "woe" that consists of an army of 200,000,000 horsemen! [Rev. 9:16]

 Rev 20;14

AND THE ARMIES WHICH WERE IN HEAVEN FOLLOWED HIM UPON WHITE HORSES,CLOTHED IN FINE LINEN WHITE AND CLEAN

There are two groups to consider here, the armies, and the horses they ride upon. If the armies clothed in fine linen are the saints, what do you suppose the horses they ride represent?

Here is what Ernst Wilhelm Hengstenberg wrote on Rev. 19:14.
http://books.google.ca/books?id=w5EXAAAAYAAJ (http://books.google.ca/books?id=w5EXAAAAYAAJ)

The clothing of Christ led St. John to take a comparative survey of the clothing also of his attendants; and hence it is that, in the midst of his description of Christ, which is still continued in ver. 15, the army of Christ is at once brought into notice. But by occasion of the regard paid to the clothing, another thing also presents itself to the Seer, which he first makes mention of, because it runs parallel to a feature in the description of Christ, which had already been communicated. As Christ heads the expedition on a white horse, so his attendants also sit on white horses. It is natural to compare here ch. xvii. 14, where the called, the chosen, and the believing appear as associates of Christ's victory. Since, according to the point of view, under which matters are contemplated in the Apocalypse and the Scripture generally, the church, even in its militant state, has its existence in heaven (comp. on ch. xiii. 6), it were not impossible in itself that, by the armies in heaven, the multitudes of believers should be denoted. But when we consider that the attendance of believers would not be suitable to the manifestation of Christ here represented, which, analogously to that in ch. vi. 2, is a judicial and destructive one, though issuing at last in salvation; when we consider that we commonly behold the angels in the train of Christ when going forth to judge and punish (Matt. xvi. 27, xxv. 31, xxvi. 53; Luke ix. 26; Mark viii. 38; 2 Thess. i. 7); when, still farther, we consider that the name of the armies of heaven has been in a manner set apart in the Old Testament, and consecrated to the angels (Luke ii. 13), and also compare in this book, ch. xiv. 20; we shall not be able to doubt that the train of Christ is composed of angels and not of believers; and that our passage does not cover itself with that of ch. xvii. 14, but is to be supplemented by it. Here it is the crushing power with which Christ, as the governor of the world, attended by his angels, beats to the ground all the resistance of his adversaries, through the means which have already been represented in ch. vi.; there it is the peaceful mission of the church which scatters the seed of the word in the fields that have been plowed by the judgments of God.--In the clothing of the angels here, as in ch. xv. 6, where the seven angels that go out of the temple appear clothed with pure white linen, their mission is symbolized, the work they have to accomplish. The glittering white denotes his glory, the purity his righteousness.

Christ = Head

People =

Many membered body of the redeemed by the blood of the Lamb, those that have washed their robes in the blood of the Lamb.

White horses =

Feet no longer walk in the flesh at all (touch the earth), ie. moving in the power of the Spirit of righteousness (and righteous judgment; horses used for war) because the soul is redeemed so no more cross to lift them; but still, if I be lifted up from the earth, I will draw all men unto Me. The sanctified body draws men too, then. We are being raised up to do greater works.

Very good.  :Sparkletooth:

I have been wondering what the white horses might represent, but when we consider the description John provides of Jesus on a white horse in the preceding verses, who can fail to notice that every one of those who are in his army appears much the same as Jesus does? They wear the same uniforms of white garments. So perhaps, John is conveying by his description of the army of those who follow Christ, that the Lord judges and makes war through his saints, in whom he dwells by his spirit.

Jesus is pictured riding a white horse, and his followers are pictured riding white horses too, in John's imagery in Rev. 19. This is in a context showing Christ as a king and a judge, who makes war against his enemies, with the sword that goes forth from his mouth. [Rev. 19:15]

In the same chapter, John pictures Jesus as a Lamb, [Rev. 19:7, 9] and the saints as his bride, a woman arrayed in fine linen, as are all those in the armies who follow Jesus. [Rev. 19:14]

In other scriptures, the saints are pictured as sheep, and Jesus as their shepherd. David wrote:

Psa. 23:1-3
1 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

Ezekiel describes God's sheep as scattered over the face of the earth. This has been fulfilled, as Christians are scattered among more than 38,000 sects and denominations. The prophecy applies to the church in our time.

Ezek. 34:6
My sheep wandered through all the mountains, and upon every high hill: yea, my flock was scattered upon all the face of the earth, and none did search or seek after them.

I suggest the "mountains" mentioned here are symbolic mountains, the ones moved out of their places in Rev. 6:14, and in which men hide themselves "from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb." [Rev. 6:16]

The hordes of people of the denominations and sects of Christendom are in view here. Many hope that the promises of the gospel apply to them, because of their baptism as an infant, or words said on their death bed.

Ezekiel said God will seek his sheep.

Ezek. 34:11-14
11 For thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I, even I, will both search my sheep, and seek them out.
12 As a shepherd seeketh out his flock in the day that he is among his sheep that are scattered; so will I seek out my sheep, and will deliver them out of all places where they have been scattered in the cloudy and dark day.
13 And I will bring them out from the people, and gather them from the countries, and will bring them to their own land, and feed them upon the mountains of Israel by the rivers, and in all the inhabited places of the country.
14 I will feed them in a good pasture, and upon the high mountains of Israel shall their fold be: there shall they lie in a good fold, and in a fat pasture shall they feed upon the mountains of Israel.

The mountains which Christ leads us to are "the mountains of Israel," which represent the promises of God that apply to the saints. All the promises of God are included in the gospel, which Paul said reveals the righteousness of God. [Rom. 1:16-17] And David said "Thy righteousness is like the great mountains."

Psalm 36:6
Thy righteousness is like the great mountains; thy judgments are a great deep: O LORD, thou preservest man and beast.

In Mat. 24:16, Mark 13:14, and Luke 21:21, Jesus says to "flee to the mountains." Seek the kingdom of God, and his righteousness! [Mat. 6:33]

Mark 13:14
But when ye shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not, (let him that readeth understand,) then let them that be in Judaea flee to the mountains:

The "mountains" of Israel include the teachings of Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount.

All the promises of God have been obtained by Christ, who has inherited the "land of promise" and all its mountains, hills, and valleys.

2 Cor. 1:20
For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.

The Bible contains the story about Abraham and the land he was promised, and how it was obtained by Israel, and how it was eventually lost, when they were taken captive in Babylon. And in this there is a great metaphor, as the land is symbolic of the promises given to us!

2 Peter 1:3-4
According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

David said God has made for us a feast, in the presence of our enemies.

Psa 23:5-6
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

The feast prepared for us is a wedding feast, called "the marriage supper of the Lamb." [Rev. 19:9]

Hey man, I'm just glad that God loves ALL of His children. Every single human being ever created. Every single creature ever created. And that one day EVERY single human being will finally REALIZE how much they are loved.

We are ALL brothers and sisters.
No-one is more special than another.
Whatever God's plan is, in the end.... we are all the same.
We are all equal.
Better to get used to that idea sooner rather than later.

peace.

John said, "his wife hath made herself ready." And he shows how.

Rev. 19:7-9
7 Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.
8 And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.
9 And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God.

See what happens to the person who did not have an appropriate "wedding garment."

Matthew 22
1 And Jesus answered and spake unto them again by parables, and said,
2 The kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain king, which made a marriage for his son,
3 And sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the wedding: and they would not come.
4 Again, he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them which are bidden, Behold, I have prepared my dinner: my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come unto the marriage.
5 But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his farm, another to his merchandise:
6 And the remnant took his servants, and entreated them spitefully, and slew them.
7 But when the king heard thereof, he was wroth: and he sent forth his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city.
8 Then saith he to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they which were bidden were not worthy.
9 Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage.
10 So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with guests.
11 And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment:
12 And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless.
13 Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness, there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
14 For many are called, but few are chosen.

If we believe the gospel, we have an opportunity to obtain some rewards that God wants to dispense to us. Jesus said even providing a cup of water to one of his followers will be rewarded.

Mat. 10:42
And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward.

God promised to reward Abraham for his faith.

Gen. 15:1
After these things the word of the LORD came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.

For keeping the judgments of God  ... there is great reward. [Psa. 19:9,11]

Sowing righteousness has a sure reward. [Prov. 11:18]

The God of Israel will be your reward. [Isa. 52:12]

The glory of the LORD shall be thy reward. [Isa. 58:8]

Mat. 5:19
Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

If you love your enemies, your reward shall be great. [Luke 6:35]

If we serve Christ, we will receive the reward of the inheritance. [Col. 3:24]

Faith has great recompence of reward. [Heb. 10:35]

God is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. [Heb. 11:6]

Watch out that you don't lose what you have wrought, but that you receive a full reward. [2 John 1:8]

We will all be rewarded according to our works. [Rev. 22:12]

The saints are represented by a woman clothed in fine linen in Rev. 19:8, and as the armies of heaven, also clothed in white linen, riding white horses like Jesus, in Rev. 19:14.

In Rev. 19:7 & 9 Jesus is represented by a Lamb. There is a correspondence between the symbols of Jesus as the Lamb, and the saints who follow Christ, who are depicted as sheep.

Jesus is represented as the temple of God, [John 2:19] and the saints also are represented by a temple. [Eph. 2:20; 1 Cor. 3:17] Each individual Christian is called a temple. [1 Cor. 6:19] The church is represented by a temple in Rev. 11:1-2 and in verse 19. The outer court of the temple is occupied by Gentiles.

The synoptic gospels all report that the veil of the temple was rent when Jesus died.

Matthew 27:51
And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;

This is also stated in Mark 15:38; Luke 23:45.

These reports reveal the location of the crucifixion; it must have been on the Mount of Olives, or else the centurion could not have observed the veil of the temple being rent as Jesus died. Ernest L. Martin claimed the crucifixion occurred "on the southern summit of the Mount of Olives near the altar 'without the sanctuary' where the Red Heifer was burnt to ashes." He commented:

It was just "outside the camp" but in full view of the eastern entrances of the Temple. The Temple curtain in front of the Holy Place could easily be seen from this prospect and the New Testament shows that when the Temple curtain tore in two at the moment of Jesus' death that the centurion and the others around the crucifixion site viewed that phenomenon taking place (see especially Luke 23:44-47 and Matthew 27:54). From outside the walls of Jerusalem the curtain could only be seen from an elevated site east of the Temple.
 http://www.askelm.com/doctrine/d920401.htm (http://www.askelm.com/doctrine/d920401.htm)

The location was probably near where Ezekiel reported his spiritual river flowing from the temple deepened greatly to "waters to swim in, a river that could not be passed over." [Ezek. 47:5]

The author of Hebrews notes that the veil of the temple was a symbol of the flesh of Jesus.

Heb. 10:19-20
Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus,
By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;

Some authors say the veil was made of wool or hair.

In the law there was a prohibition against using both wool and flax in garments. The Jews were mystified about the significance of this, and called it "chukim, a statute beyond man's ability to comprehend."

But its significance is easy to understand in a spiritual sense. The linen garments, that clothe the saints, must be pure, as they are symbolic of the righteousness of God. The significance of the above law was explained by John Gill in his commentary. The "garments" of the saints in Rev. 19:14 are fine white linen, picturing the righteousness of Christ. The wool of a sheep is grown by its own body, and so wool represents the flesh.

From:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linen

In the Jewish religion, the only law concerning which fabrics may be interwoven together in clothing is one which concerns the mixture of linen and wool. This mixture is called shaatnez and is clearly restricted in Deuteronomy 22:11 "Thou shalt not wear a mingled stuff, wool and linen together" and Leviticus 19:19, "'...neither shall there come upon thee a garment of two kinds of stuff mingled together.'" There is no explanation for this in the Torah itself and is categorized as a type of law known as chukim, a statute beyond man's ability to comprehend.[11] Josephus suggested that the reason for the prohibition was to keep the laity from wearing the official garb of the priests.[12] while Maimonides thought that the reason was because heathen priests wore such mixed garments.[13] Others explain that it is because God often forbids mixtures of disparate kinds, not designed by God to be compatible in a certain way, with mixing animal and vegetable fibers being similar to having two different types of plowing animals yoked together. And that such commands serve both a practical as well as allegorical purpose, perhaps here preventing a priestly garment that would cause discomfort (or excessive sweat) in a hot climate,[14] while also representing such forbidden spiritual admixtures as merit and grace as a means of salvation.[15]

John Gill's Exposition of the Bible

Leviticus 19:19
neither shall a garment mingled of linen and woollen come upon thee;
... the design of this, as of the other, seems to be in general to caution against unnatural lusts and impure mixtures, and all communion of good and bad men, and particularly against joining the righteousness of Christ with the works of men, in the business of justification: Christ's righteousness is often compared to a garment, and sometimes to line linen, clean and white; and men's righteousness to filthy rags, (Revelation 19:8) (Isaiah 64:6) ; which are by no means to be put together in the said affair; such who believe in Christ are justified by the obedience of one and not of more, and by faith in that obedience and righteousness, without the works of the law, (Romans 5:19) (Romans 3:28) (4:6); to join them together is needless, disagreeable, and dangerous.

But in the last days it shall come to pass, that the mountain of the house of the LORD shall be established in the top of the mountains, and it shall be exalted above the hills; and people shall flow unto it. And many nations shall come, and say, Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, and to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for the law shall go forth of Zion, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. And he shall judge among many people, and rebuke strong nations afar off; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up a sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more. But they shall sit every man under his vine and under his fig tree; and none shall make them afraid: for the mouth of the LORD of hosts hath spoken it. (Mic 4)

The entire fourth chapter of Micah has such a beautiful description of the kingdom of God. There is so much yet to be fulfilled. Believers could argue till the cows come home- it has been, it is, it will be. No man knows the day or the hour. The dawn has broken, the sun of righteousness is rising with healing in His wings. To the Jew first, then to the Jewish and Gentile believers, later, upon every one in heaven, on earth and under the earth. Whatever the nature of that fulfillment and the timing of it, isnt it possible that there will be both and indeed all these things. Blood, fire, vapor and smoke are words used through out the prophets of the shakings that occured in their own days and the ones they prophesied for their children and even down to us.

The awakening that will come upon the body of Christ(until we all attain to the unity of the faith, unto a mature man, unto the measure of the stature of the son of God). The manifestation on earth as it is in heaven of the Bride(coming down out of heaven adorned as a Bride). The revelation of Zion and the New Jerusalem as the dwelling place of the soles of His feet (beautiful feet bringing good news of deliverance and healing from the tabernacle of God). The revelation of the sons of God and the benificial reign of the kingdom of priests will swallow the earth. The glory of the Lord will cover the earth as the water covers the sea! :bgdance:and all the nations will say, "Come, let us go to the mountain of the house of the Lord to learn His ways". No more inequities, "Every man will sit beneath his own vine and his own fig tree".
I personally believe there will be all of these things, shaking in the earth and birthing out of heaven as the mountain of the Lord is revealed to all the earth. I certainly believe it was finished on that first day when God spoke, "Let there be light". I believe it was accomplished on the day Jesus cried out, "It is finished". I believe it was established on the day that the Holy Ghost from heaven fell on 120 souls when "the day of Pentecost had fully come." I believe a partial hardening has come upon Israel until the times of the Gentiles have been fulfilled(hasn't happened yet) and then all Israel will be saved. Until the awakening comes, and we "Arise out of our sleep" we will argue and continue to fall short of the mark of the prize of the high call of God in Christ Jesus. God has always worked in time in series of cycles of dawnings and full noons accompanied by events and the experiences of His people. His purpose has marched on undeterred throughout the ages. Tho the vision tarry wait for it, it will yet come to pass "at the appointed time". Ah, but today, "Today if you hear His voice, harden not your hearts as they did in the provocation in the wilderness.....they always go astray in their hearts and they have not known My ways. They shall not enter my rest." Within His rest are hidden the works that were finished from the foundation of the world that we should walk in them. Let the ones who have ears to hear, hear.
