A Biblegate dot com search of the Book of Revelation for "thunder" shows there are seven occurrences of thunder in the Book of Revelation Apocalypse vision (and scroll). Which of course is not surprising considering how many sevens are in that little book!
But I found it very interesting so ended up doing a study. (With some context and notes in parenthesis.) Posted for others interest if any.. Not everyone's cup of tea I'm sure, and a little technical maybe.. I wasn't going to post it but read a post about "thunder" which worked to change my mind..
Seven, not counting these two verses..
Revelation 10:3-4
"..And (the angel) cried with a loud voice, as when a lion roars. When he cried out, seven thunders uttered their voices. Now when the seven thunders uttered their voices, I (John) was about to write; but I heard a voice from heaven saying to me, "Seal up the things which the seven thunders uttered, and do not write them."
1 - Revelation 4:5
"And from the throne proceeded lightnings, thunderings, and voices. Seven lamps of fire burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God." (Surely burning all through history? .."And a tree of knowing both good and evil is in the garden" of Life.. The seven Spirits of God.. ..And 7 churches, "the stars" of which "are angels" Rev.1:20.)
2 - Revelation 6:1
[ First Seal: The Conqueror ] "Now I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals on the scroll, and I heard one of the four living creatures saying with a voice like thunder, 'Come and see' ..and there was a Rider on a white horse".. (The beginning? Christ and the gospel? Each seal when first broken open is described in its fullness from first to last, which veils the vision. This horse and rider has a ghost one following through the age?)
3 - Revelation 8:5
"Then the angel took the censer, filled it with fire from the altar, and threw it to the earth. And there were noises, thunderings, lightnings, and an earthquake." (The 'end'/aim [results] cometh, for the 7th seal is broken open, after verses 1 and 2, which is a, to us, long PAUSE of the just opened seal 6? But now the 7th seal is about to be broken open and there are 7 angels with trumpets preparing to sound. Which seven trumpet soundings, are the seventh seal.)
4 - Revelation 11:19
"Then the temple of God was opened in heaven, and the ark of His covenant" - with ISRAEL - "was seen in His temple. And there were lightnings, noises, thunderings, an earthquake, and great hail". (The "two witnesses of ISRAEL" who are "hated by the nations" - verses 2,3, and10.)
5 - Revelation 14:2
"And I heard a voice from heaven, like the voice of many waters, and like the voice of loud thunder. And I heard the sound of harpists playing their harps." (The 144,000 standing upon Mt. Zion, verse 1. These were the final ones to be sealed on their forehead?? During the PAUSE of seal six? I ask this because of Matthew 23:39, which says the Lord said, "Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you will not see Me again - until - you say 'blessed is He who comes in the name of the LORD'." And there are "two" groups mentioned in chapter 7 during the pause, one is numbered/counted, the 144,000, and another group "from every nation, etc., that is too many to number/count".)
6 - Revelation 16:18
"And there were noises and thunderings and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, such a mighty and great earthquake as had not occurred since men were on the earth". (Same earthquake of Idaiah 30:25? "In the day the towers fall." Being the bowls, the final results. Which seven bowls are in, or make up, the seventh trumpet. The rest of Isaiah 30:25 reads, "..when the towers fall, streams of water will flow on every high mountain and every lofty hill".)
7 - Revelation 19:6 — UR
"And I heard, as it were, the voice of a great multitude, as the sound of many waters and as the sound of mighty thunderings, saying, 'Alleluia! For the Lord God Omnipotent reigns!'..." (And thus begins the Lord's long second advent, and verse 7, "the wedding of the Lamb" the firstfruits? Then, 20:5,11-13, "the rest of the dead do not come back to life until after the thousand years".. "and sea and grave give up their dead.. great and small.." - another age? - .."Books are opened" then, 1Cor.15:24-28, "the Son hands the kingdom over to the Father who becomes all, in all". For, 2Pet.3:12-13, "the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat".. Rev.20:14, "death and the grave-paganized into 'hell' go into lake of fire, the second death" [the one in and of Adam being the first death]. Rev.21:1-5 - And "God will tabernacle/dwell with His people.." For there is "a new heavens and a new Earth in which righteousness dwells.."
(? How long would it take to review all history? .."And the Spirit of God hovered over the waters.." of life.. ..A review of all Earth's nations and each nation's generations.. to the (inevitable?) end/aim (from the Greek word tel, root of telos, telescope). To the end and aim, the apocalypse, the natural result of disobedience - falling broken and shattered "whose smoke" (memory of?) "shall forever rise"..)
