I've known how John the Baptist said "the axe is ready to strike the tree.. any tree not bringing about results of (genuine) repentance is cut down and thrown into the fire" - which of course humans take to mean that popular myth of afterlife never ending burning.
But I read today a commentary about those verses that pointed out how when Nebuchadnezzar was reprimanded by God, and said to be cut down, he was also told that the stump would remain in the ground, and after he knows and acknowledges that heaven rules, his kingdom will be restored..
They were relating it to the nation Israel - very true - but what about the individual? "The wages of sin is death" - everyone is cut down, but when they are brought to the realization that God Rules(!) :banana: whether during this life or after (after resurrection,imo) they are born again.
Via God's design.. for "God is this savior of all.."

I think our day of atonement is "today" and theirs is on 'day' of judgment.. "All in the tombs will hear His voice and rise.." Jesus said, "some in the resurrection of Life and some
to the resurrection of judgment". ..."For God knows how to preserve the un/not-yet just for correction on day of judgment". (2 Peter 2:9)
I've always thought (studying on my own, no teachings) that its "surely you won't die..? versus "dust you are and to dust shall you return." Ps. 30:9 "what profit if I go down to the pit?" - also translated, hell - "will the dust praise you"..
And I also think He was/is/fulfilled the Passover Lamb, the Unleavened Bread of Life and is "Christ the Firstfruits" and the pentecostal Spirit came down ... on Pentecost. And i believe He will return at Trumpets (of Revelation, returning "at the last trump(et)...
1000 years typified by ten days to DOA (our day of atonement being "today" and our time of being salted by fire) ---
500 years of DOA typified by the 5 days to Tabernacles.. when God "will now Tabernacle with man on Earth made new" Rev.21:1-5; 1 Cor.15:27-28 & 2 Peter 3:11-13)
I also think we have to see lake of fire like John saw it.. looked like a round 'lake' "of fire" when? At Jesus' return John saw it, at the final defeat of the adversary, and at the "all in all" event of Rev.21(1-5)
I no longer believe in even the possibility of afterlife or between life judgment or incarceration.. but a Great Day of Atonement, spelled out in the Fall Holy Days (Lev.23).. which revelation of proves UR and makes all dregs of 'hell" evaporate.. Or could.
"Hell" like its first, "sheol" simply should read the grave.. death and the grave are cast into what looked, to John, like a lake of fire when Yhvh makes ALL things new. :cloud9: :banana:
All it takes is imagining ones own self as having died in our sins, thus rising still in our sins in the "resurrection of judgment" (and "correction"). Day of Atonement was always a collective day - Lev.23:25-27(!)
Yes I believe 2 ages follow this one, the millennium and "the judgment"/correction. He is merciful.. no tossing into lake/ball of fire.. Thermonuclear.. the sky rolling up like a scroll.. is exactly what occurs.. The tares gathered in the valley of decision.. I fell asleep watching a documentary about Uranium, called "Twisting the Dragon's Tail" (scientific not Book of Rev.) about the original splitting of the uranium atoms and how it chain reacts. I woke up with the phrase "bottom top" in my head.. and realized that's what it does it pulls everything up into that fire ball which could look to John like humans being cast into it...
And the one of Rev. 20/21.. I've long figured "by end of long 'day' of judgment/Atonement/salted with fire/500 years long, no one would be left not "believing" thus all enrolled in the book of life. Their redemption no more 'fiery' or strident than ours.. since God chooses when He gives the gift of believing.. not us.. He chooses "the foolish things of the world" lol..
The fires of 2 Peter 3:10-11 & 11-13 as 'bookends' of His long 2nd advent..
..Consisting of 2 ages, the millennium/thousand years (not as metaphor, etc) and "the judgment"..(of "correction" & review of all history.. what an opportunity to teach..! :gsmile: )

Amen - ALL will-be born again! Our day of atonement and being salted with fire is "today" their's, sounds to me, shall be on 'day of judgment.. Jn.12:32 & Ps.22:27 completed on that day..
"ALL in the tombs/graves will hear His voice and will rise.. some to the resurrection of Life.. and some to the resurrection of judgment" ( / & of "correction") Jn.5:28.
