Rev 20:10-15 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.
11And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.
12And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
13And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.
14And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
15And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
The Lake of Fire was made for the devil and his angels - Matthew 25:41 "Then He will also say to those on the left hand, 'Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels;" (New King James Version)
"Everlasting" as we know is Strong's Greek word #166 "aionios" "agelasting" from the root #165 "aion" "continued duration, a space of time, an age".
Matthew 25:41 (Young's Literal Translation) - "Then shall he say also to those on the left hand, Go ye from me, the cursed, to the fire, the age-during, that hath been prepared for the Devil and his messengers;"
Surely a Day of Judgment would be an extremely long day! Won't it be a day of the examination of all things? Of all history? Surely.. as to all that went wrong.. and whatever didn't.. Why else would we even be living this life (of imperfection)? Except to completely and fully prove for all time and eternity, what is good from what is evil (what is Life from death). Is it possible that God was surprised by any one thing that has ever happened? Of course not. If God Himself was not perfect, nothing would or could exist. We can be quite sure that God has done every single thing perfectly, in order to bring about the most perfect of all outcomes. How can we believe anything else is possible?
Why did God wait such an incredibly long time before creating the universe and man and woman? Why create them not only after the first bound to occur rebel thought occurred, but after that thought had fully matured into outright sedition and revolt? Didn't He know what would happen? Of course He did!! We know He created the angels first, for they (the faithful ones) clapped and sang for joy at the creation (Job 38:1,4-7). Surely God in His infinite patience waited a very long time for that first rebel thought to occur, because when there was 'only' the Father, the Son, God's Presence and the angels, surely there wasn't all that much to 'go astray' about!
Why did God do it that way? So all of us could take this unavoidable journey and lesson all together at the same time (else one would wander away here/then, and another at another time, and another, and another, til it could go on for infinity). If God was to create rational beings, the world and reality as we know it right now, was and is, unavoidable. Thinking ability includes, sooner or later, the ability to choose. (But God, being Life itself, the spark etc; who/what else could be? and, He is Perfect, therefor anything anyone chooses other than what He chooses is to result in being imperfect, the opposite of life.)
Yes, when God endowed thinking ability to angel and man a whole new world (or tree) of possibilities 'came to be'. And since God Himself chose to open this Pandora's box, He built the rescue right into all things from the very beginning ("from the foundation of the world" Hebrews 4:3; Ephesians 1:4; Revelation 13:8 & 17:8).
Mankind was tricked. Some never ever hear the gospel in their lifetime. (God was/is surprised by this? Not on your life!!) Therefor there are two resurrections (explained in Revelation 20:4-6; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-17; 1 Corinthians 15:51-54; Matthew 24:29-31; John 14:3). The unsaved, those who died not believing and, or, not hearing, will be raised in the second resurrection, at which time "the books of life will be opened" and all things judged according to what is written (what occurred) in them (Revelation 20:12). And then after that very long time, those not believing "will go to the second death" (Revelation 20:15). But after having been resurrected from your grave and witnessing and being part of the day of the examining of all things, well, who's not going to believe?
This extra mercy surely, is designed just this way, because mankind was tricked. Yet "the devil and his angels" will have their part in the "age-during" Lake of Fire, for their revolt was willful. And I suppose anyone stubborn enough to still judge and hate God, and refuse "to believe" will also be thrown into the age-during Lake of Fire, the second death.
The last enemy to be rousted, will be "death" which the Greeks called "Hades" the "abode of the dead". Just where is that abode? Job 40:1,12,13 - 1 - "And Jehovah doth answer Job, and saith: -- 12 - See every proud one -- humble him, And tread down the wicked in their place. 13 - Hide them in the dust together, Their faces bind in secret..."
"Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire" - Revelation 20:14. - 1 Corinthians 15:26 (New King James Version) "The last enemy that will be destroyed is death".
And so, in God's infinite wisdom, God's drama proving good from evil (life from death) plays out fully for all to see and fully understand that you simply cannot turn away from God/Life, and anything other than how He wills any and all things, simply cannot be done.. For to do so is to become nonliving. End of story. God is right. All is proven. All will understand. Psalm 22:27 "All the ends of the world shall remember and turn to the LORD, and all the families of the nations shall worship before You."
