I can find nowhere mentioned in the Bible that there is a "lost soul" or "lost sinner" could that be that IF there was/is/will be a "lost soul or sinner" that Jesus through the Father has, is, or will find them?

Like I said I can't find a verse to quote.

Tom

I think Jesus sometimes speaks about lost souls when he refers to "lost sheep."

"I was not commissioned except for the lost sheep of the house of Israel." (Matthew 15:24)

And this next verse is a good sign that all mankind will be saved.

"What man of you, having a hundred sheep, and losing one of them, is not leaving the ninety-nine in the wilderness and is going after the lost one, till he may be finding it?" (Luke 15:4)

Seth

This doesn't say "lost sinner" verbatim, but I think it communicates the same.

1 Cor 1:18
For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish  (apollumi - are lost) foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

Lazarus Short

None of us are lost - some are only wandering in the wilderness, far from the Shepherd.  There is One who knows their position with pin-point accuracy...
Socrates taught Plato.  Plato taught Aristotle.  Aristotle tutored the son of Philip of Macedon.  This boy grew up to become Alexander the Great, largely by slaughtering a lot of people.  That's philosophy.

Jesus spoke the Truth.  He blessed the poor.  He healed the sick.  He even raised the dead.  He died on a cross for us, lived again, and came back long enough to tell us to love one another.  That's religion.

YHVH = Behold the Nail, Behold the Hand = Jesus

I agree. "Lost," "perish," and "destroy" are all used, but the important thing to remember is that's not a permanent condition because all will be saved at the consummation of the eons.

Interestingly the word lost means there was prior ownership.
If I lost a coin it would have to have been a coin I owned.
If I lost a sheep it would have to have been a sheep I owned.

If sin loses a soul that soul would have to first belong to Sin.
If Satan was to lose a soul that soul would have to be owned by Satan.
If man loses a soul it would have to be a soul that man owned.

If God never loses a soul than every soul must have originated with God.
To be lost and found.
You can be lost and found and not be owner of what is lost and Found.
You can be a soul that is lost and a soul that is found and not be the owner of the soul.

I think living souls are literally alive because of the breath(spirit) of God but said to be lost, or figuratively dead, due to sin until reconciled with God at which point they're no longer "lost" because they're a new creation in Christ.

micah7:9

Not to be factious or cause offence but is your post "concordant?" :dontknow:

I was going to say a few words, but I find I may find myself "quibbling" and I shun the thought.

Perhaps, if I think :2c:

Now that,  I can grab a hold of! :dsunny:

I may find myself regretting my OP, of which I meant with an honest heart. It's something I find myself doing a lot lately. Let me add that my OP was about "lost souls or lost sinners" regarding in the frame of where I posted. I do realize that there are lost "sheep."

I guess it's true, hairs could be split many ways with a surgical knife .  To me, I think the clear meaning is that some are not of the faith as Paul said, some don't yet know the Father through being given faith in the Son as Savior.  He also described "without hope and without God, and such were some of you".

Is that "lost"?  I personally think the term lost is just an "obvious" opposite of "saved", a sort of way to sum up a whole lot of verses and a concept in a short word.   :2c:

It works for me, maybe not as well for some others.

Forget the surgical hair splitting, my post stated "I can find nowhere mentioned in the Bible that there is a "lost soul" or "lost sinner"
That was it, no sheep, no interpretation, and no verse. My point I now see was overlooked, Christendom is always talking about "lost souls" and they preach and teach without scripture and verse. That was my point, I guess I see it as preaching ET, no substance, no verse. Believe it or not I own no surgical tools of any kind. :dsunny:

I'd say you're probably right that if one did a reference or concordant search, the exact phrase "lost soul" likely wouldn't come up.  So if that's the only point, I guess it's "you're right, end of discussion, good find".  :)

Maybe not, but if it also includes what people mean by it when they say it,  I see the concept as being there, just maybe not in that exact word or phrase.   I personally don't believe an exact word or phrase has to be in scripture or else that necessarily means the accurate concept's not there, or vice versa.  I agree,  I do think specific words can be important, especially in some instances;  but personally, I think we need to look for concepts/precepts, not always just a specific word.  IMO, it's how language is built.  Some words are just summary words, phrases, labels - and can be accurate - instead of trying to fully explain a whole concept in 200 words.

If I say "my car died, my dog threw up on my carpet, when it rained the roof leaked and water got all over my couch".  I could say all that, and it could be true.    But I could also use not ONE of those words, and say "I had a hard day".  And that would be true.  Different words, same concept.

IMO, same with someone being "lost".  If they're not as yet saved, if they don't know God, if they're not in the fold, then I see them as lost.  Maybe a more absolutely specific scriptural word would be "dead"? (Eph 2:1)

my "splitting hairs with a surgical knife" comment was connected to this;

Like I said I can't find a verse to quote.

"All of us, like a flock, have strayed." (Isaiah 53:6)

"For the Son of Mankind came to seek and to save the lost." (Luke 19:10)

I think words can have more than one meaning as in the case of a parable. I don't think the main purpose of the story about the one lost sheep was to remind sheep herders how important every sheep is. I also think one of the purposes of the parables Jesus spoke was to intentionally hide the truth from most of the Jews because it is the Father's will to keep them blind temporarily until the nations are evangelized. I think language needs to be interpreted literally or figuratively in context. There is much discussion on this forum about that especially when it comes to Revelation. I think I understand the concern of the original post, but I guess I would like to say, despite the fact that "lost soul" can not be found so to speak, I think it is implied in the various parables spoken by Jesus because it seems the other purpose of the parables was to reveal hidden truth to those who had ears to hear, meaning those who had been chosen to receive it at that time. I think the lost sheep, the lost coin, and the lost prodigal son are all figurative language meant to imply what Jesus really meant to those who had ears to hear and hide it from others. You asked about whether a post was "concordant." A "concordant" "literal" translation of scripture can contain figurative language because I think the word "concordant" in that case means to translate each word according to what the original meaning was in the ancient language not according to religious bias as seems to be the case with "hell" vs. "Gehenna" in popular versions. Of course, when souls are "lost," the Father who is omniscient is always aware where those souls are and does not have to "find them" as you say because that's not what is meant by the word "lost" there. Since you think your point in your original post was "overlooked," I would like to ask what logically follows from your statement? Is it that any figurative interpretation of "lost soul" is not accurate, and we shouldn't be talking about that? It seems to me there is a continuous debate among believers and even non-believers about how much of the language in scripture is literal or figurative. Some folks think it's all figurative; some think it's more figurative; some think it's more literal; and some think it's all hogwash. What I'm wondering is where you're going with your original post. So forget about sheep, and please reveal what it is that you intend to say about the lack of "lost soul." I'm curious. I'm not trying to "quibble" or "squabble." Considering your original post that "lost soul" is not in scripture, then what?

Again, I also think certain words are extremely important.

I'm not good at it, but I think we also need to look for what the concept/precept is.

As something to think about along these lines, I could be wrong but I don't think the actual 2 word phrase of "Jesus saves" is in the Bible - but from various scriptures we know He does.   :2c:  Ya'll have a great, blessed day.  :)

Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.

This is a very common passage.

The heart that is spoken about is your heart the heart you own.

The soul that is spoken about is your soul the soul you own.

God says your soul is no longer your own, but it belongs to him He bought it.
You can hide and try to keep your soul to yourself, but God eventually gets all souls.

There can never be an actual lost soul.

You can be found to have lost your soul.

I only have an  dajomaco for your post. But then again I have NO desire to get back into soul "quibbling." :HeartThrob: Really.
