Jeremiah 6:29 The founder melteth in vain

I was reading some of Jeremiah earlier and was wondering whether these verses contradict the notion that even the most corrupt will be sanctified when they come face to face with Lord Jesus.

Jeremiah6:27-30
27 I have set thee for a tower and a fortress among my people, that thou mayest know and try their way.

28 They are all grievous revolters, walking with slanders: they are brass and iron; they are all corrupters.

29 The bellows are burned, the lead is consumed of the fire; the founder melteth in vain: for the wicked are not plucked away.

30 Reprobate silver shall men call them, because the LORD hath rejected them.

What I see when I read the chapter is that it says that God is sending another nation to take Israel captive. I think that refers to Babylon, right? The reason being that Israel refused to to be refined, so God turned them over to Babylon for 70 years. However, the prophecy continues that the resulting slavery would itself result in Israel's repentance. So the passage you quote is referring to Israel's current stubbornness but not their ultimate and static destiny.

A society in which the wicked are not judged, where good is called evil and evil called good, has no durable metal. Their swords are easily broken. The founders(foundry operators, smelters and melters of metals) can not produce strong metals, the swords (defences) are weak.

Tolerated corruption and immorality breeds internal weakness(of character-spiritually) and external weakness(politically, militarily, economically)
