Inerrant and infallable?

Does anyone believe that the Bible is Inerrant and infallable?

What I mean is; do you believe that the entire revelation of God (the infinite one) can be and is enclosed within a book that can fit into your pocket?

Are fundamentalists guilty of bibliolatry? —  (worshiping the Bible as if it were indistinguishable from God?).

Since the Bible was not actually 'written' by God Himself does that leave room for error?...Or was God overseeing the whole show - makeing sure that every word got written down properly and translated correctly and that God oversaw what books actually went inside the bible we have today so that others could find Him through 'His word'?  
Or do you think the Bible HAS errors, inconsistencies and contradictions.

Do you feel happy when you read the Bible, or miserable?
When God does something like say, kill an innocent child (let's use David's as an example), does that make sense to you that a God (of love) would do such a thing?  Deep down, to you, does that really make any sense?
Or is it the old "Well God made the clay, He can do what He want's with it" answer you come up with?
Or the other common one..."I'm just a stupid human (not wicked enough to kill an innocent baby but still...), so because I'm so stupid in light of the eternal one, what do I know?"....And other things to get God off the hook.

I'm just after opinions on this matter.  To me the biggest 'obstacle' to reaching the unsaved isn't the eternal hell in the Bible...Its the way God is portrayed full stop.  Most people don't want anything to do with a being that would kill innocent children, command the death of thousands (of sometimes innocents), permit slavery and rape etc etc.

Do you feel like this is really the way God is...Or do you think that men actually have it all wrong about God and that the Bible is at best 'a guess'?

I asked Atheists their biggest objection to the Bible, after presenting the case for UR, and this was it...They reckon they would be more moral following their instincts, than those of a mass murderer.

I love the bible   for as much as it comforts me
 I also fear the Lord  which is the begining of wisdom as its written, the letter of the Law   kills me  many times  and rightly so  ,  Gods judgments are  just / fair
 the big thing for me is, my own mind  and how to comprehend  His Word
it corrects and  chastens  , helps     but also though His Spirit does  sure  give  life  to our  souls   by faith and for that   am most grateful   to God for His mercy

my only comfort is this , that they whom have died  may leave the physical  realm  but are with God in the eternal realm  forever  :thumbsup:  our destiny  as well    ...

No, but it is written the way God wanted it to be written, mistakes and all. This might sound strange to you but not if you believe God is in control of all things.  Someday all of this will seem irrelevant. None of the things you mentioned about God killing children will come to mind. If they do it will be be a thought of God knew what he was doing. Praise God. :happy3:

Hi guys  :bigGrin:.  The last post seems a pretty good place to leave this thread.   The default setting at TM is this;  the scriptures are reliable and to be respected - and (at least large bodies of) textual criticism is not allowed.  Obviously things are mentioned here and there in passing, etc.

That leaves room for translational issues, interpretational issues, and the hundreds of various doctrinal stances that pass through here - albeit, folks are encouraged to search WITHIN the scriptures, else there's too much history of "anything goes".  So this is a Biblical/Christian UR site.

I've really never seen any (many) claim innerrency - that would rule out any translational issues - unless one is talking about the originals (which we don't have).  The oldest manuscripts available agree up to 99% of the time (depending on which ones are studied), so again, the default setting at TM is respect for the scriptures.

Some good comments so far, but we've seen where this goes in the past and it ain't pretty.  A decision was made at the boards awhile back that things would not be allowed to even approach where it was before, and locking topics such as this are a part of that process.  Sorry.
