Dear Daniel:
There is nothing that we can do to save ourselves. God does the saving and has already done so through the work of Christ on the Cross all through unmerited favor.
God has given all of us the seed faith to come to the realization of this truth ( fact ) and respond ( repent ) out of gratitude to the working out of our salvation through the doing of good works to the glory of God.
Granted , faith without works is dead but salvation is by grace, a free gift and unmerited.
While we were yet sinners, Christ died for the sins of ALL men and said IT IS FINISHED! which means that He did what He was sent to do. DIE FOR THE SINS of ALL the WORLD past, present and future.

I just read Erasing Hell. Decently reasoned… but absolutely horrible. Someone on the boards repeated a comment from a magazine called Christianity where they said they don’t want the god Chan paints.
I’ve read zillions of articles on Tentmaker, and I’m almost convinced. When I read Erasing Hell, I almost for a moment believed that Jesus and the Bible taught that. And it made me want to give up on God and on Christianity if he is right. I pray that he is not, for if it turned out that the words he was saying were true, I would have to either remain a reluctant believer for fear of hell, or, if i was feeling especially bold, join the rebellion against the tyrannical, wicked god he believes in.
God will save ALL people who keep his commandments and follow HIM with all their hearts. people that live there lives with out God and just continues to rebel against him will not be saved. they knew of God or a “higher power” but that isnt going to save you from a eternity in hell. If you dont give up your self and pick up your cross then you arent a follower of Christ.
i dont think you can just simply believe in God but still live a selfish life satisfying yourself and not asking forgiveness for your sin. i dont think God will save me cause he never made an impact in my life cause i didnt care about him. i can live this way if i believe what you believe saying, that God can save me through his amazing love even with my rebelion life. that doesnt make sense.
you gotta give up yourself and praise God and keep his commandments. im on Francis Chan’s side and stand on what he believes. if you havent already i would encourage you to read his new book “erasing hell” its pretty much awesome!

Well then Jesus died needlessly. If you can keep the law, you’re a better man than anyone walking this earth. So that tells me you are blinded by pride.

You aren’ keeping the law, my friend, you’re simply shoving them under some rug that you think people and God can’t see under. But when the light shines on your heart one day, all that self-righteous religious rot will come to manifestation….dead works. Then perhaps you’ll start reading some good books like “Hope beyond Hell” instead of self-righteous poison like “erasing Hell.”
Am I to surmise that you are a Calvinist Universalist Gary? As much as I detest neo-Calvinism, I do think CU is the both the most systematic and the most humane (i.e. moral) theology.
