Hidden Message in the Sun

The word for 'sun' in Hebrew and Aramaic is שמש (shemesh). It is based on the marriage root שם, which means 'to ripple'.

There are many words that share this root:

שמ (shem) meaning 'ripple', otherwise known as the 'name' of something.
שמ (sham) meaning 'rippled area', otherwise known as 'there'.
שמיים (shamayim) meaning 'dual rippled place' (place that ripples between between two waters) otherwise known as 'heaven'.
שמע (sh'ma) meaning 'ripple up', otherwise known as 'hear'.
שמונה (shemuneh) meaning 'rippled outward number', otherwise known as 'eight'.

Then we have our word for sun, which is:
שמש (shemesh) meaning 'ripple out thing'.

There are more examples, but these should suffice for now. What they all have in common is the action of a ripple. What is a ripple? It is an action that takes place from a certain point, and radiates as a ripple outward from there in all directions, affecting all in its path.

There is so much teaching and depth here, so much to say, but I just wanted to focus on the one aspect concerning the sun, what it does, and how it reveals to us a hidden meaning that applies to us all. The sun radiates energy from itself, in a form that looks like ripples (on a clear hot day) in the sky. Whatever is contained in a ripple is not kept to itself, but instead is distributed to everything around it. This is why the sun is so beneficial, for it does not keeps its light and warmth to itself, but shares it with us on the earth. So what is the hidden meaning? I think we can already see it, visualize it, but here is another word that will complete the picture. It too, is a word, used once in Scripture, that also has the letters שמש, although pronounced slightly different, as 'shemash'. This word is found in Dan 7:10, where it refers to a thousand thousands 'ministering' to the Ancient of Days on his throne.

Dan 7:10 A fiery stream issued and came forth from before him: thousands of thousands ministered [שמש shemash] to him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him: the judgment was set, and the books were opened.

See the connection between what the sun does, and what these thousands were doing? There is nothing selfish in them, but in their ministering they are focused on affecting the one they are ministering to. They are other-centered. Incidentally, this rippling action is the true meaning of what it means to be 'named'. To the ancient eastern mind, a name was something characterizing either the person, or something that happened or would happen related to that person. A name, in truth, is a ripple, either for good or bad. What name will we make for ourselves? One that centered on self, or one that is centered on God in Messiah, and by extension, to everyone around us? Either way, once the ripple starts it cannot be stopped. May we all think and meditate carefully on how we live.

 :cloud9: You know this really spoke to me and as I've been meditating on it comparing spiritual to natural, something occurred to me. We know that people are described as waters (no coincidence that we are composed of mostly water, eh?), and stones can be the Word or even one scripture. So is t any wonder that we have all felt compelled as children to throw a small stone into a body of water to watch the ripples it makes?

Take that into the Spirit, and when we cast a scripture at someone in His love, and it hits spirit not flesh as a result, it ripples and magnifies in the heart of the person, and does not return void.

It reminds me of something He showed me many years ago with the scene where Paul was in the boat and it says they "sounded" (means to measure the depth by throwing something in with a rope attached) and found the depth to be 20 fathoms and then they sounded again closer to shore and found the depth to be 15 fathoms.

The word used for sounded relates to the word for parable. So essentially, when Jesus used parables He was "sounding" for the depth of their water/Spiritual understanding. The closer to shore/their "earth", the shallower the water/spiritual understanding. And so He rebuked an elder in Israel for not understanding one of His parables.

This principle illustrates why we must seek to be led and anointed of the Spirit in our sharing with others one on one because only the Spirit can bypass the flesh/earth and hit the target heart/spirit of man, because His arrows always hit the mark. Blessings....

Peace that passes understanding. Perfect peace. Like the sea of glass before the throne. The still small voice is where the power is, not in the storm or the earthquake.

"Today if you ear His voice harden not your heart.."

I remember back in years as a young believer being impressed by men of great charisma and power in speech, but to me, the crystal sea is an allegory for the holy ones waiting upon the Lord, just waiting for a ripple.

It is funny.

Some see obedience as not refusing to submit to the blast of God's voice when He breaks through the cacaphony of life.

Some see it as waiting quietly in His presence for a ripple.

Peace reigns in life because peace hears, and His word never disappoints. "I wait for the LORD, my whole being waits, and in his word I put my hope."

I like the idea of being a surfer on the waves that flow out of Him. Surfers wait, sensing the swells, rising up on them and then riding along in stillness, adjusting occasionally for balance but mostly just enjoying the ride. The ocean has some deep ripples stirred by the tides and the winds and the rotation of the earth- the foundations of creation are waves.

As man discovered smaller and smaller particles of creation, scientist found that they did not act as had been previously theorized, but that all these particles acted as waves- thus wave theory was born.

Hence the use of the term "waters" above and "waters" below. The heavens and their higher and lower planes could probably be viewd as frequencies, in a sense...deeper waves, higher waters being deeper and higher in the spirit.

What is the better part: שמ (the ripple) or מל (the flow)?

Ripples in the brain are important, for example, to memory-related neural processing.  But they are not the intelligence or even the memory themselves.

Or in other words a ripple/wave may die, but the flow continues in a sustainable system.

It's interesting in physics for example when energy in golden ratio folds back upon itself without destroying itself (as if it comes to know itself through reflection), surviving charge compression, and is reborn in the same flow.  The fullness of that experience is the better part.  And in this world, the Father allows us to explore that מלא experience in מלא (words).

On my ranch, I grow wheat.  When the harvest comes each full grain of wheat sits atop גלא ("wave/straw/reveal")...

John 12:24-35, "Truly I say to you that a grain of wheat, unless it falls and dies in the ground, by itself it remains.  But if it dies it produces much fruit. 'Whoever loves his life shall destroy it and whoever hates his life in this world/age shall guard it to life, to a world/age.  If a man serves me, he shall come after me, and where I am there shall also my servant be. Whoever ministers to me, The Father shall honor. Behold, now my soul is troubled, and what shall I say: My Father, deliver me from this hour? But for this I have come to this hour. Another example: on the topic of constitutional law in Israel, it's been written, "One could perceive the value of 'human dignity' as surrounded by ripples of consent, as if the legislator cast the 'human dignity' stone into the waters of the Lake of Basic Laws. Its impact on the water creates ever expanding ripples which bounce and feed off each other. Each ripple is the outcome of another ripple and they flow toward each other and distance themselves from their source until they fade away."  Yehudit Karp, Some Questions on Human Dignity According to Basic Law: Human Dignity and Liberty (1995) Mishpatim 129, 137 (in Hebrew).

Like you said, the key is to center on God in Messiah.  So for example, the first part of my name גלא will not continue perpetually in me.  I do not have that kind of life in myself.

I would actually say that last part differently.  I think any ripple can be stopped.  Just as any wave can be destroyed, so too any ripple, etc.  God can destroy anything He wants. 

Only God is perpetual.  Only the part that God chooses at any given spacetime+ will live.

that is why we recieve a new name that only the one who receives it knows..and God who gives it knows....that it be only the Father

  over you...since only He will call you of it..you can never again be decieved..for to know someones name is to have authority/dominion

over.   and so..they will no longer teach their brother..'Know God' for they shall all know me. Truly equals as sons of God and brother's.

I am considering the efforts of the people in Babylon to build the Tower of Babel..to make a name for themselves..instead of

exalting the Name of God.  or even a people that seek their own glory..their own works of their hands being lifted up/exalted

instead of exalting what God has done/the Father's work.

   Father glorify Thy name...I have glorified it..and shall glorify it again.
